H-Announce Call for Book Proposals -- Great Authors/Great Books Book Series from Rowman & Littlefield Announcement published by Bob Batchelor on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 Type: Call for Publications Subject Fields: American History / Studies, Communication, Humanities, Literature, Intellectual History Call for Proposals Great Authors/Great Books A New Book Series from Rowman & Littlefield Editor: Bob Batchelor, Department of Media, Journalism & Film, Miami University The Rowman & Littlefield Great Authors/Great Books Series is currently accepting proposals for volumes focused on the cultural and literary history of literature’s great works. In an age when “literature” now encompasses everything from multi-modal texts to timeless classics in the canon, the time is ripe for assessing, reassessing, and refocusing our gaze on the centrality of literature and the literary life in the contemporary world. The first book under contract in the series is Josef Benson’s (Wisconsin-Parkside) analysis of J. D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye. For a model in understanding the kind of books the series plans to publish, one might consider Gatsby: The Cultural History of the Great American Novel by Bob Batchelor. The Series Editor also hopes to receive proposals that add to our current understanding of literature’s most important fiction and nonfiction works, as well as rising stars on the literary scene. This new series intends to demonstrate the enduring importance of the written word, while simultaneously providing innovative perspectives that will illuminate, inspire, and transcend literary and cultural analysis and criticism. Of particular interest are book and/or authors that are frequently assigned in K-16 classrooms, are celebrating significant anniversaries or milestones, or are otherwise newsworthy. Authors/Books include (but not limited to): Toni Morrison, Thomas Pynchon, Alice Walker, Margaret Atwood, Harper Lee, John Irving, John Cheever, Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Richard Ford, Joseph Heller, August Wilson, Sinclair Lewis, Alice Munro, Philip Roth, and more… The Great Authors/Great Books Series will comprise single-author or co-author volumes that address the concerns listed above. Reference works are also an option. Please feel free to suggest additional authors/books. Volumes in the series will typically run between 80,000 – 110,000 words, exclusive of notes, bibliography, and index. Authors and editors are responsible for negotiating and securing their own Citation: Bob Batchelor. Call for Book Proposals -- Great Authors/Great Books Book Series from Rowman & Littlefield.
