22nd Azerbaijan International Construction Exhibition Post-show release CASPIAN CONSTRUCTION WEEK The Caspian Region’s largest building exhibition, BakuBuild 2016, the 22nd Azerbaijan International Construction Exhibition opened its doors on 19 October at Baku Expo Center. BakuBuild is the most important trade event in the region for building and architecture, and design and renovations. Every year, professionals from a range of different countries attend the exhibition to find business partners. Start of BakuBuild 2016 marked the beginning of Caspian Construction Week, comprising of Aquatherm Baku 2016 and Securika CIPS 2016 exhibitions. The official opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan – Mr. Niyazi Safarov, Deputy Head of the Agency for the control of security in the building of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan – Mr. Elkhan Asadov, vice-president of the National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers) Organizations of Azerbaijan Republic Vugar Zeynalov and Executive Director of ITE Group – Mr. Edward Strachan. Speakers noted the important role of the exhibition in the development of the construction industry of the country, the transformation of a modern infrastructure of Azerbaijan and noted the importance of professional contacts and exchange of experience between the industrialists and businessmen of different countries. This year Caspian Construction Week gathered 292 companies from 24 countries and occupies 2 pavilions and Lobby of the Baku Expo Center. Iran, Italy and the UAE will have national display booths, and Turkey hosted a large stand as well. French companies presented group stand. Azerbaijani companies made up 50% of exhibitors. The Sponsors of BakuBuild 2016 were Corella (NB Group), and Akkord Cement, and the media partner of the exhibition was the trade magazine “House and Interior” (“Dom i Interyer”). -

22nd Azerbaijan International Telecommunications and Information Technologies Exhibition and Conference Post-show From 29 November to 2 December in Azerbaijan capital city Baku hosted Azerbaijan International Telecommunications and Information Technologies Exhibition and Conference, Bakutel 2016 officially launching the ICT Week. Every year for over 20 years, Bakutel, the largest exhibition in the region, has been bringing together leading players of the communications market. As the main arena for presenting IT products and services, Bakutel had acquired status as the main business platform where new contacts and businesses are created. The Ministry of Communications and HighTechnologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan has provided invaluable support to Bakutel. The show is also respected globally and is supported by institutions, such as the United Nations, the International Telecommunication Union, the Regional Commonwealth in the field of Communications (RCC) and the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry. The organisers of the event are Iteca Caspian and Caspian Event Organisers (CEO). This year, Bakutel coincides with celebrations for the 135th Anniversary of Communications in Azerbaijan. One hundred and thirty five years ago, the Nobel Brothers laid the first telephone line in Baku and, since then, Azerbaijan has had its own place in the history of the communications industry. Today, Azerbaijan's ICT industry growth rate ranks first in the non-oil sector of the economy, which can be seen at the exhibition President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva had viewed BakuTel- 2016, which brought together over 200 companies from 18 countries, with 40% of the total number of participants being returning exhibitors at Bakutel. -

Nagorno-Karabakh is an ancient and historical part of Azerbaijan. As a result of Armenian aggression almost 20% of the internationally recognized territory of Azerbaijan is under Armenian occupation. More than one million of Azerbaijanis became refugees and internally displaced persons. Armenia conducted the policy of ethnic cleansing against Azerbaijanis in Armenia, in Nagorno-Karabakh and 7 other regions of Azerbaijan. Armenia committed genocide against Azerbaijanis in Khojaly. Khojaly genocide is already officially recognized by more than 10 countries. On February 26, 1992 Armenia committed war crime killing 613 peaceful residents of Khojaly, among them 106 women and 63 children. One of those war criminals who committed that terrible crime against humanity is current Armenian President. Leading international organizations adopted resolutions demanding withdrawal of Armenian troops from the territory of Azerbaijan. In 1993, United Nations Security Council adopted 4 resolutions demanding immediate and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian troops from the territory of Azerbaijan. Other international organizations, such as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Non- Alignment Movement, OSCE, Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and European Parliament adopted similar decisions and resolutions. -

Materialien und Diskussionsgrundlagen des Faches Wirtschaftsgeographie Band 22 Aserbaidschan – Ressourcen | Konflikt(e) | Transformationen Bericht zur Großen Exkursion der Professur für Wirtschaftsgeographie der KU Eichstätt-Ingolstadt vom 17. bis 26. September 2013 unter der Leitung von Prof. Dr. Hans-Martin Zademach und Dipl.-Geogr. Michael Huth 2014 Die MDW-Schriftenreihe dient als Forum für Forschungser geb nisse, Studienmaterialien und ausgewählte studentische Beiträge aus der Arbeitsgruppe Wirtschaftsgeographie an der KU Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. Kommentare und Anregungen sind herzlich willkommen. Zusammenfassung Der vorliegende Bericht fasst die Beobachtungen und Erkenntnisse zusam- men, die während der Großen Exkursion nach Aserbaidschan im September 2013 gewonnen werden konnten. Im Mittelpunkt der Exkursion standen die Transformationsprozesse hin zu Demokratie und Marktwirtschaft in einem postsowjetischen Kontext. Diesbezüglich wurden drei Themenkomplexe vertieft behandelt: (1) Die geostrategische und wirtschaftliche Bedeutung der Öl- und Gasindustrie und mögliche daran anschließende Entwicklungs- schwerpunkte; (2) das autokratische politische System und der Konflikt mit Armenien um die Region Bergkarabach sowie deren Präsenz im Alltag; (3) die Minderung von Stadt-Land-Disparitäten durch staatliche Initiativen und Projekte von Nichtregierungsorganisationen zur Verbesserung der Lebens- bedingungen besonders in ländlichen Gebieten. Ferner stan den Fragen zu speziellen Wirtschaftsformen (z.B. Subsistenzlandwirtschaft, fin ormeller Sektor),
