Hakuoh University in Oyama, located in the southern area of , just 50 miles north of Tokyo, offers a ten-day summer home stay program to 7 selected UH Community College students who have played an important role in impacting their community and colleges through service-learning. Students who are selected for the program will spend time in the classroom meeting and working with Hakuoh students, studying Japanese culture, visiting historical sites, and participating in a service-learning project with a final capstone.

Dates: June 18 – June 29, 2009 (10 days in Japan) Eligibility: ƒ U.S. citizenship at the time of application ƒ Hawai`i residency at the time of application ƒ Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 with high quality of service as determined by your reflection paper, recommendations, and evaluations. ƒ 2 Letters of Recommendation from: a Service-Learning coordinator or supervisor, indicating the number of service-learning hours completed by the applicant and from an UHCC faculty member.
