The most famous modern proponent, Dong Hai Chuan, became the bodyguard of the Empress Dowager, and was a teacher well respected by China’s most famous masters. 1. Bagua Zhang contains powerful strikes. But the emphasis on flow and constant change is what gives this art its versatility. The options to choose between strikes, throws, joint locks, pressure point control, and varying degrees of control, make this art useful for self-defense and for law enforcement. 4. The objective of this study is the kinematics variables of the front kick of karate practitioners of traditional style in conditions with impact in a target and without impact. Material & Methods: Collected the anthropometrical data from 8 graduate male karateists athletes with brown and black belt (30.1 ± 10.2 years, body weight of 85.3 ± 16.2 kg and height of 178.9 ± 4.9 cm, time of medium training 13.7 ± 4.7 years). The assessment of kinematic of the kick was made by means of computed kinemetry, acquiring 3 sequences of front kick in conditions with and without impact with both sides of the individuals, being analysed in the Skillspector 1.3.2 software. The statistical analysis was performed in the SPSS software. Results: In relation to the kinematics variables analysed the velocity of 5th metatarsus in the condition with impact and using the dominant member was significantly larger than the other conditions, as well as at the speed of the lateral malle- olus in the condition with impact and utilizing the dominant member. -

HOW TO PHYSICALLY PREPARE FOR TRICKING BY AnTHONY mychal Ten years ago, only a handful of people tricked. Since then, however, the sport has seen a rapid climb in popularity. There are thousands of people from hundreds of countries that are flipping, twisting, and kicking in their backyards aided by the massive amount of online content, support, and resources. Even though tricking depends largely on skill, better athletes are emerging and raising the level of difficulty and complexity of the tricks. The downside of this is that most new tricksters have no formal training. In its infancy, tricksters were martial artists that were already conditioned, which helped protect from injuries and jumpstart their careers. This lack of physical preparation can devastate an athlete. As tricking advances, just like any sport, getting bigger, faster, and stronger is advantageous to prevent injuries and push the boundaries of human capability. What makes training for tricking difficult, however, is that there aren’t rules or boundaries defining the sport. There are no intervals of work and rest. You trick when you’re ready to trick. This means following programs, techniques, and regimens from other sports is very misguided. A TRICKSTEr’S NEEDS Successful tricksters will have the power and explosiveness to execute high flying moves, while also having the strength and stiffness to handle the impact of sticking a landing. But tricking is unique from others sports in that grace and flexibility are needed to execute most moves. It’s not about brute strength, but having strength in extreme ranges of motion is important to protect from injury. -

Abstract Purpose: Biomechanical analysis of martial art techniques are objective and quantitative method, which may be useful in training practice for the purpose of improving these techniques as well as monitoring and enhancing athletes performance. The aim of this study was to assess selected kinetic parameters and lower limb loading during karate front kick, using force platforms, for both kicking and support leg. Material: Karate athlete, second dan, black belt holder in Idokan style, participated in this case study. The subject performed front kick in the air (without a physical target), both for his right and left leg, while standing on the force platforms. For the purpose of kinetic data recording two force platforms were used in this study (Kistler force plate, type 9286AA, Kistler, Switzerland). Selected kinetic parameters for kicking and support leg as well as front kick execution time were analysed. Results: Results of our case study revealed higher values of the kinetic parameters for the right leg, comparing to the left leg. -

INSIDE THE KINGDOM August 2, 2017 the Chronicle Section B – 20 Pages Exhibit on Greensboro families China connections by Joseph Gresser GREENSBORO — The Greensboro Historical Society usually divides its attention between stories about the farmers and artisans who built the town and the folks who came from away to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of Caspian Lake. This summer’s exhibit at the society’s headquarters in the old Greensboro Library Building next to Willey’s Store examines a more distant object through the lens of four families that eventually called Greensboro home. “Old China Hands” looks at how those four families engaged with a distant land and gives a picture of some of that country’s most difficult years as seen through the eyes of the folks with Greensboro connections. The exhibit is dominated by a set of four long panels, each devoted to the story of one of those families, complete with photographs showing family members and places in China that were important to them. Artifacts, including Chinese clothing, trophies from sporting competitions held by Europeans in China, and other family keepsakes line the walls of the room. But perhaps the most interesting part of the exhibit is a timeline that A collection of items gathered by four Greensboro families during their time in China surrounds freestanding matches historical events in the U.S. and China panels chronicling their history there.
