ABSTRACT The ranging course of terrorism banishing peace and security prospects of today’s Pakistan is seen as a domestic effluent of its own flawed policies, bad governance, and lack of social justice and rule of law in society and widening gulf of trust between the rulers and the ruled. The study focused on policies and performance of the Musharraf government since assuming the mantle of front ranking ally of the United States in its so called ‘war on terror’. The causes of reversal of pre nine-eleven position on Afghanistan and support of its Taliban’s rulers are examined in the light of the geo-strategic compulsions of that crucial time and the structural weakness of military rule that needed external props for legitimacy. The flaws of the response to the terrorist challenges are traced to its total dependence on the hard option to the total neglect of the human factor from which the thesis develops its argument for a holistic approach to security in which the people occupy a central position.

Some of the related topics discussed, such as governmental and police corruption and anti–money-laundering laws, may also apply in part to the three TBA countries in general in addition to the TBA. The channel broadcast 4 hours daily including international programmes in English and Hindi from BBC and DW. It also provided the advantages of DRM digital radio including near-FM quality audio, text messages, Journaline and an Electronic Programme Guide (EPG). Horst Scholz, Consultant Media Broadcast 2 Joint BBC/DW radio channel for South Asia This joint BBC-DW DRM radio channel used two transmitters in the region and managed to cover the majority of the Indian sub-continent and reached as far as Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and other neighbouring countries. The transmission started on October 31 st 2010 with broadcasts from 1400 – 1800 UTC on frequencies 13590 and 5845 kHz (SW) and additionally on 1548 kHz (MW) between 1700 – 1800 UTC Horst Scholz, Consultant Media Broadcast 3 Joint BBC/DW radio channel for South Asia Unfortunately, Deutsche Welle had to end its participation in the project in 2012 due to its strategic decision to close the transmitting station at Trincomalee in Sri Lanka. Should we still use them? Should we all ‘go organic’? What is best for the environment? What sustainable solutions are there to the problems associated with growing food? This activity allows students to consider the benefits and drawbacks of using artificial fertilisers and encourages them to do so from a scientific, rather than an emotive point of view. Students will probably bring their own existing ideas and beliefs to the activity and they should be encouraged to think about whether the scientific data supports their views. Overview Students take on the roles of a number of experts. Some information is provided for each role and students can do their own research to find out more about the likely views of the expert they are playing. One of three routes can be taken through the activity: 1. If video cameras are available, students could make a TV programme. This could either be done in the form of a TV debate in the style of programmes like ‘Question time’, or ‘Richard and Judy,’ or it could be a mini documentary in the style of ‘Panorama,’ ‘Horizon’ or another similar programme. Students would need to be in reasonably large groups and the activity would need careful management. 2. Alternatively, the whole class could prepare for a radio show on the subject. The final show will require a presenter with a reasonable grasp of the arguments both for and against the use of artificial fertilisers, three experts on each side of the debate and a group of listeners.
