Cllr Alan Revell (Chairman) welcomed members of the public and representatives and formally opened the meeting. Public Forum 1. To receive Apologies for Absence. Apologies were accepted from – Cllr Burslem (away), Cllr Martin Lumb, Jenni Aird, Auriol and Michael Marson 2. Approval of the draft minutes of the Annual Parish Meeting held on 18th April 2018. The Chairman made a note that last year’s minutes had been available recently on the website and village noticeboards to read before approval. The minutes were taken as read and proposed by Cllr Galloway for approval by seconded by Cllr Buttle. A vote was taken where they were agreed, and they were duly signed by the Chairman as a true record of the meeting. 3. Matters Arising from the Annual Parish Meeting held on 18th April 2018. There were none. The Chairman thanked Cllr Roberts for organising tonight’s presentation. Cllr Roberts announced that a film called Town Settlement would be shown. Cllr Roberts who had source the film gave a brief introduction and explanation of the film before it was shown. Cllr Roberts also announced that there is a competition – if anyone can recognise 10 things in the film to let them know after the meeting. On one side, antisemitism appears as a pressing contemporary problem, intimately connected to an intensification of hostility to Israel. Opposing accounts downplay the fact of antisemitism and tend to treat the charge as an instrumental attempt to de-legitimize criticism of Israel. I address the central relationship both conceptually and through a number of empirical case studies which lie in the disputed territory between criticism and demonization. The paper focuses on current debates in the British public sphere and in particular on the campaign to boycott Israeli academia. Sociologically the paper seeks to develop a cosmopolitan framework to confront the methodological nationalism of both Zionism and anti-Zionism. It does not assume that exaggerated hostility to Israel is caused by underlying antisemitism but it explores the possibility that antisemitism may be an effect even of some antiracist forms of anti- Zionism.

He grew up in the Hull area, and was educated at Pickering Road Junior School and Kingston High School, Hull. He then studied architecture at King's College, Newcastle upon Tyne, becoming an Associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1959 (since lapsed). He worked for a short time in the profession, before becoming a full-time writer in 1960. His subsequent career has been extremely wide-ranging and remarkably successful, both in terms of his own original work, and his adaptations of literary works. He has written extensively for radio, television, films and the theatre, and for the daily and weekly press, including The Guardian, Punch, Listener, and New Statesman. Mr. Blair, previously an Anglican, was received into full communion with the Catholic Church by Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor of Westminster.     Concepts of Representation and The Passage of The Sex Discrimination (Election Candidates) Bill Dr Sarah Childs First Draft for Journal of Legislative Studies Middlesex University White Hart Lane London N17 8HR 07950-933371 [email protected] Abstract The Sex Discrimination (Election Candidates) Bill was introduced to the Commons in October 2001, gaining Royal Assent in February 2002. The Bill followed the decrease in the numbers of women elected in the 2001 General Election. It permits political parties to introduce positive action in the selection of candidates. The Bill received cross party support and had an easy passage through both Houses of Parliament. This article examines the arguments employed by MPs and Peers in support of the legislation, informed by feminist concepts of representation. Arguments associated with the claim that women have a different political style received little support. There was greater discussion of arguments based on symbolic representation and substantive representation, although many MPs were reluctant to make the strong claim that women’s substantive representation is dependent upon women’s presence. However, the most widely supported argument in favour of the Bill was the justice argument, namely, that women are currently being denied equal opportunities in the parties’ selection processes. Introduction1 The 2001 General Election saw 118 (17.9%) women MPs returned to the House of Commons. This was the first time in over twenty years that the numbers of women MPs had decreased (Lovenduski 2001). Yet it was not unexpected. Unlike 1997 when the Labour Party had implemented all women shortlists (AWS), no political party adopted positive discrimination measures for 2001.
