    Peter Adams is a composer, producer, sound designer, and multi-Instrumentalist. Classically trained and unconfined by genre, Peter has produced two albums and numerous works for modern dance, film, theater, and television. His combination of traditional, sampled, and virtual instruments creates a wide spectrum of sounds, allowing for music both intimate and expansive. He has performed throughout the country, including with the Cincinnati Ballet, and has been critically acclaimed by Spin, Magnet, Performing Songwriter, and NPR. Jonathan Campbell received his B.F.A. from The Juilliard School in 2010 and Austin Diaz graduated from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts with a B.F.A in 2011.     1 PERFORMANCE MIX ARTISTS 2013:BIOGRAPHIES Renée Archibald presents Shake Shake, a duet that brings new life to the old cliché of the dancer’s body as instrument. The work investigates sound as a kinetic sense, with rhythm accumulating and dissolving into sempiternal metabolic process and tumbling into finely-tuned cacophony that animates the performance space with lush visual noise. Shake Shake is performed by Jennifer Lafferty and Renée Archibald. Archibald is currently a third year MFA candidate and Teaching Assistant in The Department of Dance at the University of Illinois. After receiving a BFA from University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Archibald lived in New York City for ten years where she performed with independent artists including Christopher Williams, Ann Liv Young, and Rebecca Lazier. Her choreographic work has been presented at NY venues including The Brooklyn Museum, The Chocolate Factory, Danspace Project, Dance Theater Workshop, and The Kitchen. Archibald has taught at Barnard College and White Mountain Summer Dance Festival and has received choreographic residencies through the Brooklyn Arts Exchange, Movement Research, and Yaddo. When we looked back at Pentacle’s 40-plus-years working with performing artists, we could see that administrative support was vital to the creative process. Artists who moved from emergent to renowned had often utilized multiple services of Pentacle along their way. Although we believed in this methodology of administrative support, we had only anecdotal evidence to support our theory. With initial support from The Scherman Foundation’s Rosin Fund, and in collab- oration with Hollis Headrick/Arts and Cultural Strategies, Inc., we launched ART, a study designed to test our theory and provide insights into how to better serve our community of performing artists, particularly emerging, underrepresented artists of color.

    New Materials: Natural Elements and the Body in Screendance Sylvie Vitaglione, New York University Abstract This article explores the practice of shooting on location in screendance advocating for a practice that explores the concept of material specificity in order to create grounded conceptual works. In order to metaphorically and literally ground the dancing body, this article examines the crucial dichotomy between intervention in sites and integration of sites in order to understand exactly what stance screendance takes on its settings. In other words, what do artists take from the site and what do they bring to it? I begin by examining various definitions of site-specificity. By surveying theories and practices surrounding the artistic treatments of locations, my aim is to highlight the choreographic and cinematic techniques that connect the dancing body to the environment. I argue that through the use of natural elements these films articulate a version of site-specificity deeply connected to the materiality of each location rather than to its geography or history. Keywords: site-specificity, land art, material specificity, location shooting, screendance Screendance is concerned with the body. As the exploration of the friction between the corporeal and the technological, between the live and the recorded, between the still and the mobile continues, in recent years the practice has shifted to new grounds: screendance has become concerned with space.1 The camera and its accompanying gear have pushed dancing bodies outside to explore sites and surfaces beyond the studio and the stage. Our sprung wood floors and smooth Marley now quasi-obsolete onscreen, the screendance body takes root outdoors.2 Shooting on-location has not only become a possibility, it has become the default option.
