Geomarketing News GfK releases 2019 purchasing power for Austria May 8, 2019 and Switzerland Thomas Muranyi Public Relations T +49 7251 9295 280 Regionalized GfK purchasing power data for Austria, Germany [email protected] and Switzerland Bruchsal, Germany, May 8, 2019 – According to GfK’s latest study, the Swiss have a 2019 per capita purchasing power of €42,067, signifi- cantly outpacing the Austrians (€24,067) and Germans (€23,779). But there are substantial regional differences within and between these countries with respect to available net income. According to GfK’s prognosis, Switzerland’s almost 8.5 million inhabitants have a total purchasing power of €356.9 billion in 2019 (excludes Liechten- stein). Austria’s approximately 8.8 million inhabitants have around €212.3 billion at their disposal in 2019, while Germany’s approximately 82.8 million inhabitants have €1,968.7 billion. Purchasing power is a measure of the nominal net income available to the population, including government subsidies such as unemployment assis- tance, child benefit and pension contributions. The population uses these funds for consumer purchases as well as expenditures related to accom- modation, recreation and savings. WHC Nomination Documentation File Name: 1033.pdf UNESCO Region: EUROPE AND THE NORTH AMERICA __________________________________________________________________________________________________ SITE NAME: Historic Centre of Vienna DATE OF INSCRIPTION: 16th December 2001 STATE PARTY: AUSTRIA CRITERIA: C (ii)(iv)(vi) DECISION OF THE WORLD HERITAGE COMMITTEE: Excerpt from the Report of the 25th Session of the World Heritage Committee The Committee inscribed the Historic Centre of Vienna on the World Heritage List under criteria (ii), (iv), and (vi): Criterion (ii): The urban and architectural qualities of the Historic Centre of Vienna bear outstanding witness to a continuing interchange of values throughout the second millennium. Criterion (iv): Three key periods of European cultural and political development - the Middle Ages, the Baroque period, and the Gründerzeit - are exceptionally well illustrated by the urban and architectural heritage of the Historic Centre of Vienna. Criterion (vi): Since the 16th century Vienna has been universally acknowledged to be the musical capital of Europe. While taking note of the efforts already made for the protection of the historic town of Vienna, the Committee recommended that the State Party undertake the necessary measures to review the height and volume of the proposed new development near the Stadtpark, east of the Ringstrasse, so as not to impair the visual integrity of the historic town. Furthermore, the Committee recommended that special attention be given to continuous monitoring and control of any changes to the morphology of the historic building stock. BRIEF DESCRIPTIONS Vienna developed from early Celtic and Roman settlements into a Medieval and Baroque city, the capital of the Austro- Hungarian Empire. It played an essential role as a leading European music centre, from the great age of Viennese Classicism through the early part of the 20th century.

  • The Holy and Great Council and Its Implications for Orthodox Unity
Journal of Eastern Christian Studies 72(1-2), 145-180. doi: 10.2143/JECS.72.1.3287537 © 2020 by Journal of Eastern Christian Studies. All rights reserved. THE HOLY AND GREAT COUNCIL AND ITS IMPLICATIONS FOR ORTHODOX UNITY THE PERSPECTIVES OF THE RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH, THE SERBIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH AND THE ORTHODOX CHURCH OF GREECE KARIN HOFMEISTEROVÁ, MIROSLAVA JasenčáKOVÁ, NIKOLA KARASOVÁ* The newspaper headlines referring to the first pan-Orthodox council after more than 1200 years, which took place in Crete in June 2016, suggested that one was witnessing a unique historical event – or even a new era – in the Orthodox world. Some even considered its importance to be comparable to the Second Vatican Council. According to the Ecumenical Patriarchate, which was the central power initiating the Council, the goal was to demon- strate Orthodox unity and the readiness of the Orthodox Church to face the challenges of the contemporary world as well as to address disputed issues in Orthodox ecclesiastical jurisdiction. However, the absence of four autoceph- alous Orthodox Churches, among them the world’s largest (the Russian Orthodox Church) affected the initial purpose of the pan-Orthodox meet- ing. What has the Holy and Great Council (hereinafter the Council) exposed if not a proclaimed unity, and what does it mean for individual Orthodox churches and their mutual relations? By analyzing primary sources that include official documents released by Orthodox autocephalous churches, Orthodox presses and literature, and finally the statements of hierarchs in other media outlets, we assess the stances of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC), the Serbian Orthodox Church (SOC) and the Orthodox Church of Greece (OCG) towards the Council in particular and modern pan-Orthodox conciliarity in general.

  • Art, Cinema, and Life Outside the Imperial Ring
Megan Hoetger Art, Cinema, and Life Outside the AImperial Little History ofRing the Austria Filmmakers’ Cooperative The screen comes to life with a blindingly bright white field illuminating the words: materialaktion mühl; 6/64; mama und papa; copyright kren. It’s dark again. A pair of lips appears in the center of frame. Floating. Suspended for a few seconds. The screen goes dark again. When the image re-appears it shows a naked woman (Annie Brus) with her legs splayed open, head thrown forward in an ecstatic pose, and red paint running down her torso. Once her iconically-centered body disappears from the frame, things are set off into a frenzy of movement, not to come to a resting point, like the one offered by Brus’ body, for the remainder of the four minutes. The moving image that confronts a viewer in Kurt Kren and Otto Mühl’s Mama und Papa (1964) is a raucous flurry of flickering parts—mostly body parts—that, more often than not, are almost unrecognizable outside of their gritty yet seductively glistening surface textures. The bodies that appear in the film, including both Mühl’s and Brus’s, are captured from multiple and continually shifting angles as the two engage in various erotic(ized) gestures, from a dry session of coitus more ferarum, to nipple suckling, to indiscernible scenes of fleshiness. These gestures, though, are never shown in their entirety. Instead, they reemerge over 369 Megan Hoetger and over again, as fragmented, interrupted, and obsessively repetitive image sequences. In the 1960s, Vienna was abuzz with the activity of a neo-avant- garde scene that had been developing since the 1950s, when the Wiener Gruppe [Vienna Group] had begun its absurdist literary cabarets on the model of earlier Dada antics.
