On Tuesday 25th February, Barnard Castle Auction Mart held their Annual Show & Sale of Show Potential Cattle in conjunction with sale of OTM Cattle, Feeding Bulls and Store Cattle.

A tremendous show of Haltered Calves were judged by Sean Marsh, Dover who awarded the championship to a superb 10 month old British Blue heifer ‘Osofine’ from regular consigners R Hutchinson & Son, Valley Farm, Bowes, which he later purchased for £6000. The Reserve Championship went to a 10 month old British Blue Steer ‘Ozzy’ also from R Hutchinson & Son, Valley Farm, which the judge also purchased for £2800. The Un-haltered cattle were judged by Ian Wainwright, Fife who awarded the Championship to a British Blue heifer from Charlotte Warren, Church Farm, Cleckheaton, which he later purchased for £1300.

A marvellous entry of 35 OTM cattle, 46 Feeding bulls, 33 Haltered calves and 640 Store cattle were presented to customers from all parts of the UK. Many thanks go to both regular and new buyers who attended and witnessed probably the best show of cattle seen anywhere in the UK in recent times. Massive appreciation goes to all the vendors who made the journey to the mart today and hopefully went away feeling rewarded for their time and stocksmanship.
