Jones ’95 -25 year rep KINGS POINTER OF THE YEAR Robert J. Lavinia ’70 began his career in 1970 at the Gulf Oil Corporation as a licensed officer in their US flag tanker fleet. He transferred to Gulf International Trading Company, and after several promotions, left Gulf Oil in 1980 to work for Phibro Energy Corporation. In 1985 he transferred to Hill Petroleum Company, Phibro's refining company. He was President and Chief Executive Officer for both entities. In 1992 he joined Tosco Corporation. During Bob's tenure at Tosco, the Corporation made several acquisitions, to include British Petroleum Northwest, Circle K Company, and Union 76 Products Company. Bob served as President for each of those companies as well as Senior Vice President of Tosco Corporation. In 2001, he left Tosco when it was acquired by Conoco Phillips, and formed his own company, Lavinia Enterprises, LLC, a consulting and venture capitalist endeavor. At the time of his departure from Tosco, he was responsible for Tosco's Marketing Company; with over 6,000 gas and convenience stores in 32 states and over 20,000 employees. From 2002-2006, he served on the Board of Directors of Transcor SA, a Belgium based Company with trading operations around the world; and from 2005-2006 he was the Chairman of the Board for their medium-sized refinery in the Houston, Texas area, The Pasadena Refining Company. In 2007, he joined Petroplus Holdings AG, the largest European independent refining and wholesale marketing company. They own eight refineries in five countries. He became the Chief Executive Officer in March 2008. September 2009, he retired from Petroplus, but was elected to remain as a member of the Board of Directors. In 2011, he left Petroplus Holdings AG. In October 2011, he became a member of the Executive Committee and served on the Board of Directors for Big West Oil LLC in Ogden, Utah. He resigned from Big West the end of 2015. Bob served on the USMMA Alumni Association and Foundation's Board of Directors beginning in 2012. He currently serves on the Board of a NY Stock Exchange Company- PBF Energy, a large Independent Refining Company with 5 World Class Refineries in the United States. Other: He is a member of the 25 Year Club of the Petroleum Industry. From 2002-2005, he was Chairman for the Life Development Institute Foundation, a teaching and support group for learning challenged young adults. He has served on two of the Arizona Governor's task forces, chairing the most recent commission which addressed Arizona's "Essential Services" concerning issues related to motor fuels, natural gas and power generation and continues to be "on- call" for ongoing related issues. He graduated cum laude from the US Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York, and was inducted into their Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999. Bob is a graduate of the Harvard Advanced Management Program. He is a race car enthusiast owns and races his own vintage NASCAR, enjoys collecting antique cars, horseback riding; snow skiing, golf, and traveling. DISTINGUISHED SERVICE Paul L. Krinsky ’50 has had a lifetime of Distinguished Service to USMMA. He entered KP in 1946 and graduated with honors in 1950. He sailed as a deck officer for United States Lines aboard SS America and SS United States. From 1955 through 1958, he went on active duty in the Navy and served as navigator aboard the USS Everglades (AD-24). He continued in the Naval Reserves rising to the rank of Captain. He was married to Audrey Krinsky and had two children, Ross and David. RADM Krinsky joined the faculty of USMMA and instructed navigation and seamanship courses in the Department of Nautical Sciences. He has held numerous positions of distinction at the Academy, including Director of Admissions, Academic Dean, and Deputy Superintendent. During this time, he was actively involved in the N/S Savannah project and the integration of women at the Academy. The United States Merchant Marine Academy was the first service academy to admit women in 1974 one year prior to it being mandated by congress. In 1987, Paul L. Krinsky was appointed the Superintendent of USMMA and served in that position though 1993. Paul has devoted many years of service to Kings Point and the Midshipmen. He is a strong supporter of the USMMA AAF and a member of the “Faithful Sailing Partners” 30-year consecutive giving Society. Gordon E. Inouye ’65 is a Big Island farmer, businessman, entrepreneur and sportsman, Gordon has had a distinguished career both professionally and personally. Graduating in 1965, he sailed as an engineering officer for APL, earning his Chief Engineer’s license and sailing as Chief at age 25. Coming ashore in 1972 Gordon has co-founded and co-owned several maritime and family private businesses. Most recently co-founding and president of Puna Flower Power in Hawaii. Throughout his career, Gordon had always been devoted to Kings Point. He is a founding member and President of the Island of Hawaii Chapter of the AAF. He has been Chairman of the AAF Awards Committed since 2011. As the Chairman of the Awards Committee he has attended numerous Homecoming awards dinners. He actively supports the KP soccer team, organizes class of 65 mini reunions. As president of the Island Hawaii Chapter, along the Honolulu Chapter, co-sponsors and raises funds for the Senior Luau while also donating the orchid leis and tropical flowers for the event. He has continued to generously donate to the AAF, is a member to the Flying Bridge Honor Roll, regularly participates and actively sends messages to his class encouraging everyone’s participation. Gordon is a previous recipient of an OPA in 2010 and MAS in 2015. Patrick J. McAllister ’65 is a dedicated, highly motivated senior executive with over 50 years’ experience in Project Management, Engineering, Construction, and Operations/Maintenance. He sailed for American Export Isbrandtsen Lines for five years raising his license to Chief Engineer. His experience with aero derivative gas turbines aboard the GTS Adm Wm M Callaghan led him to come ashore with Pratt and Whitney as a marine applications engineer where he participated in adapting aero derivative gas turbines to shipboard propulsion applications such as Seatrain’s Euroliner Class container ships and the USGG Polar Class icebreakers. Pat went on to implement land based combined cycle power plants and multipurpose hydro projects all over Asia and the United States as a senior executive. His last leadership was as Vice President for Engineering and Construction for EDF Renewable Energy- specializing in wind and solar energy projects. Pat is best known to fellow Kings Pointers as the President of the Columbia River Chapter and also as a Field Representative for the Academy. The chapter has won a number of Gold Awards over the past four years for all of their activities supporting alumni, midshipmen and working with the Washington Chapter of the National Parent’s Association. The Columbia River Chapter is always present for community activities in support of the Alumni Association, Academy and the merchant marine. Pat serves as the USMMA representative on the nominating panels for a congressional representative in SW Washington and Senators in Oregon. In short, Pat and his dedicated team of chapter officers has made the USMMA a respected name in Oregon and SW Washington. Congressman Peter T. King, a Republican, is serving his fourteenth term in the U.S. House of Representatives, being reelected in November 2018. Rep. King is a member of the Homeland Security Committee and Ranking Member of the Sub-Committee on Emergency Preparedness. He also serves on the Financial Services Committee. Congressman King, who previously served as Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee in 2005-2006 and again in 2011-2012, has been a leader in homeland security and is a strong supporter of the war against international terrorism, both at home and abroad. As Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, he stood up to the pressure from special interest groups and the media to hold a series of hearings on Islamic radicalization. Chairman King led the fight to continue funding to the Secure the Cities Program to protect the New York-Long Island region from nuclear dirty bomb attacks. During his years in Congress, Rep. King has attained a reputation for being well- informed and independent. Following the ravages of Superstorm Sandy, Rep. King led the successful fight in Congress to obtain $60.4 billion in emergency funding for the victims of the storm. Even Newsday has admitted that Congressman King is a "stand-up guy who isn’t shy about tangling with the powerful, even those in his own party. King has become a national figure who delivers for the region and his district." Rep.
