The North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) has approved the study as part of the FY 2015-2016 Subregional Studies Program with a completion date no later than June 30, 2016 was also noted. -

Northeast Corridor One-Year Implementation Plan Fiscal Year 2017 September 2016 Congress established the Northeast Corridor Commission to develop coordinated strategies for improving the Northeast’s core rail network in recognition of the inherent challenges of planning, financing, and implementing major infrastructure improvements that cross multiple jurisdictions. The expectation is that by coming together to take collective responsibility for the NEC, these disparate stakeholders will achieve a level of success that far exceeds the potential reach of any individual organization. The Commission is governed by a board comprised of one member from each of the NEC states (Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland) and the District of Columbia; four members from Amtrak; and five members from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). Its mission is to provide safe, reliable, convenient and cost-effective transit service. Covering a service area of 5,325 square miles, NJ TRANSIT is the nation’s third largest provider of bus, rail and light transit, linking major points in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. It is one of the only public transit operators with statewide responsibilities in the United States. NJ TRANSIT operates, either directly or by private contract, a fleet of 2,200 buses, 1,076 train cars and 93 light rail vehicles. On 256 bus routes, 12 rail lines and 3 light rail lines statewide, NJ TRANSIT provides over 270 million passenger trips each year. In addition to NJ TRANSIT operations, private bus carriers provide services to NJ TRANSIT facilities and customers. NJ TRANSIT is an instrumentality of the State of New Jersey created by the New Jersey Public Transportation Act of 1979. NJ TRANSIT is empowered with the authority to acquire, own, operate and contract for the operation of public passenger transportation services. In addition to farebox revenues, NJ TRANSIT receives operating and capital funds from several sources including the State of New Jersey via legislative appropriation and the federal government by defined formula and by discretionary grants. -

Fleeting Memories
FLEETING MEMORIES Michael Ruby Published as an E-book by Ugly Duckling Presse Brooklyn, New York 2008 This is a collection of memories that popped into my mind over a period of seven years at work, as a copy editor at The Wall Street Journal, across the street from the World Trade Center. As far as I can tell, the memories came from nowhere, with no relation to the mostly political articles I was editing about the Republican takeover of Congress, the government shutdown, Monica Lewinsky, the Starr Report, the downfall of Newt Gingrich, impeachment, Florida or Bush v. Gore. Many of the memories are glimpses of places, a street corner and nothing more, as if a major function of the mind were this continuous global positioning, this continuous murmuring, “Right now, I’m at the corner of 10th Ave. and 64th St.” The places are distributed fairly evenly over the course of my life, with a somewhat disturbing precedence given to the streets around my childhood home at 251 Montrose Ave. in South Orange, N.J. I first became aware of these memories in my twenties, but it wasn’t until my mid-thirties that I really paid attention to them. A cascade began when I learned that my wife, Louisa, was pregnant with our first child, Charlotte, in 1993. A few years later, when I was taking care of identical-twin babies, Natalie and Emily, as many as three memories would pop into my mind while I was changing a single diaper. I tended to view them as memories being killed off by the brain.
