JHARKHAND WAR MEMORIAL Jharkhand War Memorial is dedicated to the soldiers from Jharkhand who had sacrificed their lives for the country. The Memorial spans over an area of 10 acres and is divided into three main parts viz. Court of People displaying life and thoughts of eminent people, Court of Valour, which is dedicated to gallant deed of soldiers and Court of Heritage, which houses museum. A light & sound show is also organised every weekend to depict the heroic acts of Warriors of the Jharkhand State.

SHAHEED SMARAK The ‘Shaheed Smarak’ at Shahjahanpur earlier called ‘Saidpur War Memorial’ was constructed to pay tribute to the martyrs of 71 Infantry Brigade who achieved martyrdom in Op Cactus Lilly. Shaheed Samarak also has names of martyrs of units orbatted to 167 Infantry Brigade.

HONOURING MILITARY STALWARTS Gen Bipin Rawat, COAS paid homage and unveiled statues of KM Cariappa and General KS Thimayya at Gonikoppal, on 04 November 2017. Gen Bipin Rawat recalled the contributions of the two stalwarts & exhorted the youth of the region to follow the footsteps of their illustrious forefathers.

MILITARY HONOURS TO TWO -I INDIAN SOLDIERS Mortal remains of two Indian soldiers of 39 were laid to rest at Military Cemetery Laventie, France during Nov 2017. A delegation comprising of Commandant and Subedar Major of Garhwal Rifles Regimental Centre & two bagpipers from Garhwal Rifles Regimental Pipe Band, attended the ceremony. Earlier, during an excavation work on southern side of village Richebourg near Laventie Military Cemetery, two human remains were found and identified to be of soldiers of 39th Royal Garhwal Rifles.

ICMM WORLD CONGRESS 42nd International Committee on Military Medicine (ICMM) World Congress was held at Vigyan Bhavan, from 19–24 Nov 2017, which was attended by delegates from 75 member nations of the ICMM. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, the Chief Guest, Admiral Sunil Lamba, CNS and Chairman, COSC, lauded the efforts of the organizers in conceptualizing the World Congress with the theme of ‘Military Medicine in Transition’ which would address its ever evolving role depending on its combat and non combat responsibilities. EX PRABAL DOSTYK 2017 Exercise Prabal Dostyk 2017, Indo-Kazakhstan Joint Military Exercise was conducted from 02 Nov to 15 Nov 2017 at , . The joint exercise enhanced the defence co-operation between the two countries as also achieved interoperability between the two armies.

EX SAMPRITI 2017 Exercise Sampriti 17, seventh edition of Indo-Bangladesh Joint Military Exercise was conducted at Counter Insurgency & Jungle Warfare School, Virangate from 04 Nov to 17 Nov 2017. The exercise marked yet another milestone indicating increasing military bilateral cooperation between the two Nations.

EX IMBAX 2017 Exercise IMBAX 2017, the first ever Combined Military Training Exercise between India and Myanmar was conducted at Joint Training Node, Umroi in Meghalaya from 20-25 Nov 2017. The aim of the joint exercise was to acquaint both forces with each others operating procedures in the backdrop of counter insurgency & counter terrorism operations under UN mandate.

Award of President’s Colours to a Battalion is an honour, bestowed upon, in recognition of exceptional service rendered by units to the Nation both during war and peace and adorns a place of pride in the Battalion.

An annual Tri-Services Training Commands Conference hosted by Headquarters Army at was conducted on 07 & 08 Nov 2017. The conference is an ideal platform for the Armed Forces to brainstorm important tri-services training issues and consolidate the determinants for change of joint training paradigm for the future.

A delegation of Uzbekistan Army visited Counter Insurgency & Jungle Warfare School, Virangate, Mizoram on 23 Nov 2017. The delegation visited various state-of-art training and infrastructure facilities and awe- inspiring demonstrations by the elite instructors of the School to include world class firing ranges, innovative techniques of counter terrorism operations and realistic training being imparted.

General Bipin Rawat, COAS visited Army Air Defence College Gopalpur on 26 Nov 2017 and was briefed on Training Facilities of the College by Lt Gen PS Jaggi, Commandant AAD College.

As part of defence co-operation, 35 member delegation of National Defence College, Myanmar, visited Surya Command on 23 Nov 2017. Wreath was laid at the Smritika War Memorial by Hla Than Maung, who is leading the delegation to India. The visitors were later briefed and given an overview on the vital role played by the Command in HADR and the joint training being conducted with Friendly Foreign Countries.

Sikh Regimental Centre, Ramgarh organised Special Sainik Sammelan on the occasion of 37th Biennial Conference and 14th Reunion on 17 Nov 2017. Sainik Sammelan was presided over by Lt Gen SK Jha, of the .

Attestation parade at Artillery Centre, Nasik Road, was held on 23 Nov 2017 in which 417 Gunner recruits passed out. The parade was reviewed by Maj Gen PP Prakash Singh, MG Arty, South .

A Capacity Building Tour for 20 students of remote areas of Kupwara District was conducted from 20 Oct to 28 Oct 17. The children visited prestigious institutes of with the aim to acquaint with rich heritage of the country.

Ace of Spades Artillery Brigade installed four solar street lights as part of Op Sadbhavana at Village Amwalagura, a remote village in Rajouri District, J & K during Oct 2017.

Poonch Linkup Day was celebrated by the people of Poonch alongwith Poonch Brigade with characteristic gaiety and fervour. The celebrations commemorated the historic link up carried out by Brig Pritam Singh’s forces with Brig Yadunath’s forces from Rajouri at Danna Ka Pir.

Udaan, a ‘School & Rehabilitation Centre’ for disabled children was conceived under the aegis of VAJR Division. The School houses a Physiotherapy Lab, Braille Machine and Audio- meter & also organises counselling of parents & recreational activities for its 20 inmates.

An educational & motivational tour for 20 girl students from remote areas of to , Pune & Bangalore was organised in Nov 2017. The aim of tour was to get a first hand feel of development in other regions of our country.

A Multi-Specialty Medical Camp was organised at Menchuka during Oct 2017 wherein doctors from Air Force Hospital, Jorhat and Menchuka, a Military Garrison, provided medical advice and treatment to the local populace. Approximately 500 residents were treated in the camp.

An Ex-servicemen Rally was organised by Red Horns Division at Rangia, Assam on 19 Nov 2017. More than 2000 people attended the Rally. A number of stalls were set up for speedy redressal of the grievances of the Ex-servicemen, Veer Naris and Widows. Veer Naris and widows were felicitated during the program.

Indian Army moved-in to support District and State Administration Jaisalmer, by providing team of doctors, nursing staff and ambulance to overcome medical emergencies created during ongoing strike of doctors during Nov 2017.

The motorcycle team of the Army Service Corps, ‘THE TORNADOES’ broke another record on 19 Nov 2017 by becoming the only team to travel 1.2 km with 58 men on a single moving motorcycle. The feat was successfully achieved for the Guinness Book of World Records, Limca Book of Records and the Unique World Records at the Air Force Station, Bangalore.

Havildar Gopi Thonakal of Army Sports Institute Pune, won the 16th Asian Marathon Championship held at Dongguan China on 26 Nov 2017. He has become the first Indian to win the championship.

A trekking team of Indian Army undertook trek from Sangam to Manikaran after crossing glaciated Pin Parvati pass located at 17300 feet during October 2017.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Tri Nation Unity and Heritage Motorcycle Expedition was flagged-in by Shri Ram Nath Kovind, Hon’ble on 21 Nov 2017. The Expedition promoted rich heritage of North East by visiting Bangladesh, Myanmar and North Eastern States.

A White Water Rafting Expedition comprising of 22 members of Indian Army was conducted on Siyom river from 16 to 18 Nov 2017. The expedition started from Thumbin and culminated at Panging where Siyom river conjoins Siyang River.

Integrated Quarter Master Package (IQMP) software was released to Indian Army units by Lt Gen Sarath Chand, UYSM, AVSM, VSM, Vice Chief of Army Staff on 02 Nov 2017 at South Block, New Delhi. The software will play an important role in achieving signifi cant milestone towards ‘Digital Army’ initiative of the .

The software has been developed by Army Software Development Centre, Directorate General of Information System to automate Quarter Master (Logistics) functioning at unit level to bring speed, accuracy and transparency in its provisioning and accounting. The application will replace numerous legacy applications such as ‘Vastra’ and ‘QM Package’. The package comprises thirteen modules to automate ‘QM (Logistics)’.

The application is capable of sharing information and data with other important applications of Indian Army in the domain of logistics management. The application also provides facility to auditors to audit all documents pertaining to QM functions in the digital format. IQMP has been developed to achieve automation at grassroots level as well as for provisioning of complete automated landscape in the logistics domain.
