DOI: http://doi.org/10.18172/brocar.3751 LOS MAESTROS DE PRIMERAS LETRAS EN LA RIOJA A MEDIADOS DEL SIGLO XVIII José Luis Gómez Urdáñez Universidad de La Rioja [email protected] Nuria Pascual Bellido Universidad de La Rioja [email protected] Jonathan Alvarez Arias, Julen Bermúdez Sarasola, David Frías Anzuola, Mikel García Benito, Juan Pedro Pedroarena Espinal, Pablo Pérez de Felipe, Mario Sáenz Martínez, Unai Salinas Barandiaran, Javier Zúñiga Crespo1 RESUMEN: Mostramos en este artículo la realidad del magisterio en La Rioja a mediados del siglo XVIII basándonos en el catastro de Ensenada y en do- cumentos de la sección judicial del Archivo Histórico Provincial de La Rioja (AHPLR), fuentes que nos permiten comprobar que los maestros de primeras letras gozaban en La Rioja de una situación muy favorable y que su condición de servicio público necesario era aceptada ya en todos los pueblos. Pagados por los concejos y los padres –las dos fuentes de ingresos que recogió la ley Moyano de 1857–, los maestros gozaban de prestigio, desempeñaban oficios como organista, sacristán o incluso notario, y en general, disfrutaban de una buena situación económica relativa, siempre en el terreno de la austeridad obligada, pero muy por encima de la sociedad campesina en que se asenta- ban. 1. El Camino Natural del Ebro atraviesa Cantabria, entre magníficas montañas y amplios valles. En Castilla y León esculpe profundas hoces y congostos. El País Vasco ejerce de transición entre la montaña y el valle. La Rioja, Navarra y Aragón están surcados por grandes meandros, numerosos brazos fluviales, hoy abandonados, y tupidos sotos. Al final de su trayecto, en Cataluña, atraviesa hoces, frutales y arrozales hasta morir en el mar. Sus poblaciones han desarrollado una identidad, cultura e historia en torno a los usos del agua.

    INNERMOST RIOJA La Peña de Quel from the terrace of Queirón. Queirón was conceived as the wine-growing project of the Pérez Queirón Cuevas family in Quel, in the heart of the Cidacos river valley in the sub-region of Rioja Oriental. The vineyards are located between We are Rioja, we are Quel the Yerga and La Hez mountains in the heart of the Barrio de Bo- degas de Quel, an emblematic enclave of the 18th century that Wines for pleasure represents the historical vocation of this tiny village in Rioja with respect to wine, culture and of course its soul. Queirón embodies the philosophy of the Pérez Cuevas family, who has been focused on the world of wine for four generations. Queirón is the culmination of the dream of our father, Gabriel Pé- rez, winemaker and pioneering wine entrepreneur in this area of Rioja Oriental. This project has been over a decade in the making and has silently and secretly been brought to life by Gabriel. The project has restored historical areas and vineyards in the surroun- ding areas of Quel alongside the slopes that define the Sierra de Yerga mountain range. It is a terroir that bridges its relationship with viticulture to the period of the Middle Ages, as evidenced by various documents found in the Cathedral Chapter of Calahorra, dating back to 1327. Queirón is classicism and innovation at its best, and to this end will always remain committed to making wines with soul or otherwi- se, wines that define the place from which they were born.

En la actualidad, la preocupación del viticultor se centra en diferentes plagas y enferme- dades: polilla, ácaros, mildiu, oidio, botrytis.., todas ellas importantes, pero de efectos generalmente limitados, puesto que la maquinaria para tratamientos, los numerosos pro- ductos fitosanitarios a disposición del viticultor, el seguimiento continuo por los Servicios ofi- ciales a través de los Boletines de Avisos periódicos, etc, hacen que el problema se reduzca fi- nalmente a coste de cultivo. Preocupará más o menos mantener sano el viñedo pero, a fin de cuentas, hoy prácticamente ninguna viña perece por las actuales plagas o enfermedades. La aparición de la filoxera en La Rioja en 1899, por el contrario, fue una catástrofe total para los viticultores de entonces. Como ocurrió en toda Europa, el insecto produjo la destrucción absoluta del viñedo. La velocidad de transmisión dependía del terreno y de la climatología; en La Rioja fue muy rápida. El impacto fue tan grande que el cultivo de la vid lo podemos dividir en: antes y des- pués de la filoxera.

    Kalakorikos, 10. 2005, pp.: 251-277 EL LÉXICO CARACTERÍSTICO DE LOS VALLES DEL CIDACOS Y DEL ALHAMA (II) por José María Pastor Blanco* Resumen El objeto de este artículo -parte de otro mucho más amplio, en avanzado proceso de elaboración- es mostrar la enorme riqueza léxica que encierra la Rioja Baja a partir de un reducido número de voces ordenadas alfabéticamente como si de un diccionario se tratara. Recojo en buena parte de ellas testimonios espontáneos recogidos durante la encuesta que aclaran el significado exacto de las mismas al tiempo que nos muestran rasgos morfosintácticos riojanos poco conocidos de los estudiosos y que considero del mayor interés. Finalmente me detengo en el análisis detallado de alguna de estas formas. Abstract The aim of this paper -a part of a bigger one in an advanced process of elaboration- is to show the high lexical richness of the Low Rioja, based on a certain number of alphabetically ordered words, l i k e in a dictionary. In most of these words I put down spontaneous statements gathered during the poll. Statements which express the true meaning of the words as well as their morphosyntactic traits from La Rioja, almost unknown by scholars, but of high interest. Finally I write down a detailed study of some of these forms. Continuamos el recorrido por el universo léxico de la Rioja Baja. Incorporo en es- ta ocasión todo un conjunto de voces populares desconocidas en su mayor parte de la lengua general pese a tener aquí un notable arraigo.
