How were people consulted?

Year 3/4/5/6 took part in a route plotting session with the BWTS coordinator – discussing all aspects of sustainable travel. They suggested ideas for car sharing, routes to school and health issues. Regular Working Party meetings take place and issues are raised with the School Council. Various newsletters have been sent out on better ways to school and all children took part in an online survey

4 Summary of transport and road safety problems

Route Plotting Notes

Children were very happy with their journey to school. 2 children travelled by bus. Four children sometimes came by bike and some children thought that their parents could car share

(Current problems on routes to the school, and reasons preventing sustainable travel to school)

The school is fortunate in that there are few traffic problems outside school and speeds are kept to a minimum because of the nature of the road. Space is limited for parent waiting outside school

Parents often drop children off from cars outside school without seeing them safely across the road Due to the school being in such a rural area children are not used to busy traffic and need to learn pedestrian skills suited to a busier environment

Parents have nowhere to shelter when waiting outside There are no facilities for storing bikes

Asby Endowed School Travel Plan
