In this study, we use chromosome painting with whole chromosome probes from the Phyllostomidae Phyllostomus hastatus and Carollia brevicauda to determine the rearrangements among several genera of the Nullicauda group (subfamilies Gliphonycterinae, Carolliinae, Rhinophyllinae and Stenodermatinae). Results: These data, when compared with previously published chromosome homology maps, allow the construction of a phylogeny comparable to those previously obtained by morphological and molecular analysis. Our phylogeny is largely in agreement with that proposed with molecular data, both on relationships between the subfamilies and among genera; it confirms, for instance, that Carollia and Rhinophylla, previously considered as part of the same subfamily are, in fact, distant genera. E-mail: [email protected] (GRF). * Corresponding author The visored bat, Sphaeronycteris toxophyllum Peters, 1882, is a species listed as Data Deficient by the International Union for the Conserva- tion of Nature, being considered rare throughout its geographical range due to the small number of specimens recorded. This study reports a new record that broadens the distribution range of the species in Colombia to the central mountain range and upper valley of the Magdalena river. One adult male of S. toxophyllum was captured after a sampling effort of 3,870 net-hours over 36 nights in the Andean region, at the upper valley of the Magdalena river, Department of Tolima, Colombia. Its diet was analyzed and a model for Colombia was built. The morpho- metric analysis of the specimen captured yielded values lower than those previously reported for Colombia. The analysis of stomach contents identified two floristic elements as part of its diet, corroborating the frugivorous feeding habits of this species. -

For the Wrst time, the phylogenetic relationships of 26 species and Wve subfamilies were investigated using four genes (18S rDNA, 16S rDNA, COII, and cytB) under three optimality criteria (maximum parsimony (MP), maximum likelihood (ML), and Bayesian inference). Tree topol- ogy tests of previous hypotheses were conducted under likelihood (Shimodaira–Hasegawa test). Major Wndings include the non- monophyly of the Streblidae and the recovery of an Old World- and a New World-Clade of bat Xies. These data ambiguously resolve basal relationships between Hippoboscidae, Glossinidae, and bat Xies. Recovered phylogenies resulted in either monophyly (Bayes- ian approach) or paraphyly (MP/ML topologies) of the bat Xies, thus obscuring the potential number of possible associations with bats throughout the history of this group. Dispersal-vicariance analysis suggested the Neotropical region as the possible ancestral distribution area of the New World Streblidae and the Oriental region for the Old World bat Xies. -

Antipa", Bucuresti] The present paper is based an extensive material of the family Cono pidae deposited in the collections of the Muzeul de Istarie Naturala "Gr. -mtipa", Bucuresti. We have found in the revised material altogether 39 species of this family collected on the whole territory of Rumania. We include also further 6 species which we did not find in the revised material but the occurrence of which in Rumania is known from the literature. At the present time 45 species of the family Conopidae are known on the territory of Rumania but not even this number is definite. Kröber (1936, 1939) records e. g. 57 species from Italy, 35 from Greece and 53 from France. Although the occurrence of conopid-flies is more frequent in warmer southern regions, in Czechoslovakia, where the family Conopidae has been studied very extensively [ Chväla, 1961, 1965), 52 species have been recorded and 8 other species are expected to be found here. The study and collecting of Conopidae especially in southern sandy regions of Rumania [ Bucuresti and Dobrogea Regions) will result without no doubt in the discovery of further interesting species. The first recmd on this family in Rumania was published by Frivaldszky [1876] who recorded 2 species - Zodion ctnereum Fabr. -

This is the first comprehensive introduction to the flies of the subfamily Tachydromiinae (Hybotidae) of Singapore. The monograph summarizes all publications on the Tachydromiinae of Singapore and includes new data resulting from mass-trapping surveys made in Singapore during the last six years. A few samples from Malaysia (Johor province, Pulau Tioman and Langkawi) have been also included in this study. In Singapore the Tachydromiinae are the most diverse group of Empidoidea (except Dolichopodidae) and currently comprise 85 species belonging to the following nine genera: Platypalpus (1), Tachydromia (1), Chersodromia (6), Pontodromia (1), Drapetis (5), Elaphropeza (60), Crossopalpus (1), Nanodromia (3) and Stilpon (7). All species are diagnosed and illustrated.
