ABSTRACT Plastic dehornig in adult cattle can result in several trans and postoperative complications. Sinusitis is an important sequela, resulting from an inflammatory process affecting the exposed frontal sinuses. In the present study, treatment protocols efficacy was evaluated in 60 bovines. Therapeutic protocols included sodium hypochlorite, policresulen, povidone-iodine and isotonic sodium chloride solution, which were divided into four experimental groups of 15 animals, GI, GII, GIII and GIV. During frontal sinus access to institute local treatment, attempts to identify foreign bodies, bone fragments, grass stems, suture material and wood splints were made. Mucous-purulent liquid drainage and excess solutions removal were facilitated by laterally rotating the animal’s head and placing the frontal sinus gap as ventral as possible. Using chi-square test, there was significant difference between treatments. Sodium hypochlorite and povidone-iodine were the most effective treatments, being recommended as part of sinusitis therapeutic protocol. BMC Infectious Diseases 2012, 12:148 http://www.biomedcentral.com/1471-2334/12/148 RESEARCH ARTICLE Open Access Antiseptics and disinfectants for the treatment of bacterial vaginosis: A systematic review Hans Verstraelen1*, Rita Verhelst2, Kristien Roelens1 and Marleen Temmerman1,2 Abstract Background: The study objective was to assess the available data on efficacy and tolerability of antiseptics and disinfectants in treating bacterial vaginosis (BV). Methods: A systematic search was conducted by consulting PubMed (1966-2010), CINAHL (1982-2010), IPA (1970- 2010), and the Cochrane CENTRAL databases. Clinical trials were searched for by the generic names of all antiseptics and disinfectants listed in the Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical (ATC) Classification System under the code D08A. Clinical trials were considered eligible if the efficacy of antiseptics and disinfectants in the treatment of BV was assessed in comparison to placebo or standard antibiotic treatment with metronidazole or clindamycin and if diagnosis of BV relied on standard criteria such as Amsel’s and Nugent’s criteria. Results: A total of 262 articles were found, of which 15 reports on clinical trials were assessed. Of these, four randomised controlled trials (RCTs) were withheld from analysis. Reasons for exclusion were primarily the lack of standard criteria to diagnose BV or to assess cure, and control treatment not involving placebo or standard antibiotic treatment. Risk of bias for the included studies was assessed with the Cochrane Collaboration’s tool for assessing risk of bias. Three studies showed non-inferiority of chlorhexidine and polyhexamethylene biguanide compared to metronidazole or clindamycin. One RCT found that a single vaginal douche with hydrogen peroxide was slightly, though significantly less effective than a single oral dose of metronidazole.

RECONSTRUCTIVE Curettage and Policresulen Tampon as A Modality Treatment in Management of Verucca Huntal Simamora, Puri Ambar Lestari, Kristaninta Bangun, Gentur Sudjatmiko Jakarta, Indonesia. Background: Verruca, also known as warts is a skin disease characterized by epidermal growth. Verruca may occur anywhere especially on palms and soles. It appears as a rough, dark-grey colored surface and has similar features with clavus or callus, which frequently lead to inappropriate management. Patient and Method : We report two cases with verruca, one was on sole and another was on palm area treated with curettage and chemical ablation using policresulen solution. Both cases have histories of recurrences from the previous treatment, which was excision and primary closure. Results : The wound healed within seven days after treatment. There were no recurrences found after 6-month follow up. Summary : Our treatment (curettage and chemical ablation using policresulen) has two advantages: (1) it can avoid excessive tissue removal since this lesion only afect epidermal layer, Pendahuluan: Veruka atau warts adalah kelainan kulit dengan pertumbuhan epidermis yang dapat terjadi di semua kulit tubuh terutama pada telapak tangan dan kaki, dengan tampilan kulit permukaan kasar dan berwarna abu-abu gelap.

THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE, FISHERIES AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT Pursuant to Article 15, paragraph 1, subparagraph 2 of the Food Act (Official Gazette 46/07) and Article 87, paragraph 6 of the Veterinary Act (Official Gazette 41/07), the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development hereby issues the ORDINANCE ON MAXIMUM RESIDUE LIMITS OF VETERINARY MEDICINAL PRODUCTS IN FOODSTUFFS OF ANIMAL ORIGIN 1 Article 1 1) This Ordinance lays down the maximum residue limits of veterinary medicinal products (hereinafter: VMP) in foodstuffs of animal origin. (2) This Ordinance shall not apply to active principles of biological origin intended to produce active or passive immunity or to diagnose a state of immunity used in immunological VMPs. (3) This Ordinance shall not prejudice the application of special regulations prohibiting the use in livestock farming of certain substances having a hormonal action nor shall it prejudice the measures taken to prevent the unauthorised use of VMPs. Definitions Article 2 1) For the purposes of this Ordinance, the following definitions shall apply: (a) ‘residues of veterinary medicinal products’ means all pharmacologically active substances, whether active principles, excipients or degradation products, and their metabolites which remain in foodstuffs obtained from animals to which the VMP in question has been administered; b) ‘maximum residue limit’ (hereinafter: MRL) means the maximum concentration of residue resulting from the use of a VMP (expressed in mg/kg or µg/kg on a fresh weight basis) which may be legally permitted or recognised as acceptable in or on a food. MRL is based on the type and amount of residue considered to be without any toxicological hazard for human health as expressed by the acceptable daily intake, or on the basis of a temporary acceptable daily intake that utilises an additional safety factor.
