2018 2019 Bega Valley Shire Council Annual Report 2018-2019 Welcome Bega Valley Shire Council is proud to present our Annual Report for 2018-19. The Annual Report is a key point of accountability between Council and its community. This report outlines progress made against the Council’s 2018-2019 commitments in the Delivery Program and Operational Plan, and describes how Council is supporting achievement of the Community Strategic Plan. The report presents performance measure results for Council services, and summarises annual achievements across the key outcome areas. In accordance with the Local Government Act 1993 the Annual Report also includes required statutory information and provides an overview of the Councils financial position. More detailed information on the financial performance of the Council during 2018-2019 can be found in the Annual Financial Statements, a companion document to this report, which will be released early in 2020. Our Aboriginal Custodians The Bega Valley Shire Council acknowledges that Aboriginal people are the original inhabitants, custodians and native titleholders of all land and water in the Shire. The resolution was carried unanimously. The SWPC was established in 1976 and played a vital role in securing State and Federal funding for the upgrade of the Summerland Way. The committee was wound up in June 2014 because the Pacific Highway duplication project was a higher priority into the foreseeable future. That situation has now changed. The Pacific Highway upgrade is fully funded and is scheduled for completion in 2020. This will free up a huge amount of civil works construction capacity. It is also likely that continued infrastructure spending will be required to support and stimulate the economy. Further development of the inland Grafton to Brisbane corridor is now underway with the $240m second crossing of the Clarence River at the Grafton end, and the Beaudesert bypass on the northern side of the Queensland-New South Wales border. To realise the potential of the Summerland Way as a viable alternative to the Pacific Highway for heavy vehicles operating between Northern NSW and South East Queensland, the east of Mt Lindesay deviation needs to be constructed. -

It understands that the public need to be aware of what development can occur in the Shire and standards it needs to be development to. The overall guiding mantra are the objectives of each chapter that give to outcome of an appropriate, contemporary and sustainable development. These objectives have been developed as performance based so as to allow the proponent to utilize the development standards set out in the plan or place before Council a proposal that may differ from the development standard while still satisfying the adopted objectives. The FSC is strategically located between the nation’s main capital cities, approximately 2-5 hours from Sydney, 6-10 hours from Melbourne and just 2 hours from Canberra. The FSC is renowned for its natural beauty with nearly 400 km of coastline; numerous marine parks, thirty one national park areas and extensive areas of state parks. The region generally has mild, pleasant weather. The summers are warm with an average maximum of 27°C while the winters generally have a minimum range from 1°C to 12°C. (Bureau of Meteorology). Weddin Shire Council has seen significant change over the last four years since it developed its first Community Strategic Plan (2013-2023), Delivery Plan and Operational Plan. This Plan reflects these changes. The new Plan is a requirement of the NSW Government and assists the community in better understanding where we are and how we can get to a sustainable future that best meets the whole of community needs. The Weddin Community values its independence and sense of place. Since 2012, the community has continued to express a strong commitment to remaining as an independent Council and improving community amenities so that skills and resources can continue to be attracted to Weddin. In doing so, Weddin embraces the opportunity to work with neighbouring and regional councils and a broad range of government bodies so services can be more efficiently and effectively delivered through a broadly collaborative and inclusive plan.
