It was founded as a military stronghold on the eastern frontiers of Russia in 1619 by a group of Cossacks led by a son of boyar - P. Albichev and Ch. Rukin. For almost one and a half century Yeniseysk had been "the main gate" to the Eastern Siberia and is by right called "the father" of all Siberian cities. Yeniseysk is a unique town having kept and brought through centuries unique memorials of history and culture and original architectonic heritage of the past. An outdoor museum can be named the central part of town, whose base is composed with merchants mansions and villas. Osinovsky Rapid is located in 40 km from the mouth of the Stony Tunguska River (509-511 km from Krasnoyarsk). Legendary narrow canyon which can be overcame very hardly. Passage through the rapid is very narrow (700 m) and tortuous. Two ships can not disperse and the movement is one-sided only. Throw this rapid Yenisei comes in to Osinovskaya cheeks - the most picturesque area in the lower flow of river. High granite shores form a corridor height of 50 m. After 20 km from the rapid there are two little islands. The first is like a ship with a single pine tree on top, it's called "The Boat Island ". Behind it in the 150-200 m there is an island Barochka. To the left of Barochki there is a large stone island Monastirsky. In the old days it was the place where fugitive monks were banished. Yenisey turns sharply left and takes the water of Stony Tunguska right next to island. TURUKHANSK The city is located at the confluence of the Lower Tunguska River in the Yenisey, in 1474 km north of Krasnoyarsk. The city was founded in 1607 as a winter cabin. In the 19-20 centuries it was a place of banishment (including Stalin in 1914-1916). The main attraction of the city is the Trinity Church (late 1918 - early 19.). Here you will find the right tributary of the Yenisei River - Upper Tunguska. In the 17 th century Russian explorers named the river the Upper Tunguska. Tunguska - because on its banks Tungus (modern Evenki) lived and the definition of Upper sets it apart from the other two Tunguskas. THE CROSSING OF THE ARCTIC CIRCLE (RIVER KUREYKA), HANDING OF COMMEMORATIVE CERTIFICATES. During the day, tourists pass Igarka city located on the bank of Igarka channel of Yenisey in 1330 km north of Krasnoyarsk. It’s behind the Arctic Circle in the zone of permafrost. Now it is a port that is available for vessels from the Yenisei Bay, there are also airport Igarka used to transport goods and workers on the oil fields. NORILSK CITY The settlement of Norilsk was founded by the end of the 1920s however, the official date of founding is traditionally set to 1935, when Norilsk was expanded as a settlement for the Norilsk mining-metallurgic complex and became the center of the Norillag system of GULAG labor camps. It was granted the status of urban settlement in 1939. Norilsk, located between the West Siberian Plain and Central Siberian Plateau at the foot of the 1,700-metre-high Putoran Mountains, is situated on some of the largest nickel deposits on Earth. Consequently, mining and smelting ore are the major industries. Norilsk is the center of a region where nickel, copper, cobalt, platinum, palladium, and coal are mined. According to the archives of Norillag, 16,806 prisoners died in Norilsk under the conditions of forced labor, starvation, and intense cold throughout the existence of the camp (1935–1956) 1. Fatalities were especially high during the war years of 1942-1944 when food supplies were particularly scarce. The prisoners organised a nonviolent revolt (Norilsk uprising) in 1953. Unknown but significant numbers of prisoners continued to serve and die in the mines until around 1979. In 2001, Norilsk was decreed a closed city for foreigners [email protected] Of. 1, 173, Nevsky Pr., St.Petersburg, 191167, Russia Phone: +7(812) 740 7714, Fax: +7(812) 271 0397 1/5, New Arbat str., Moscow, 119019, Russia Phone/ Fax: +7(495) 604 1630.
