Southampton City Council’s Employment Support Team are still working with clients as usual, offering phone meetings, online communications and video conferencing as options for clients wanting to receive support to look for work during this challenging time. PeoplePlus and Staffline have launched a new nationwide worker transition service as part of the campaign to Feed the Nation during the Covid-19 crisis.

We are working together to move people who have been made redundant, are ‘at risk’ or in the gig economy into the ‘essential services’ industries.

Many industries like travel and retail have been savagely hit by Covid-19. At the same time many industries associated with food production, food supply, supermarkets and delivery services are crying out for thousands of additional workers. It’s these food and produce sectors which the government has now categorised as ‘essential services’ – because without them we will see more of the alarming pictures we’ve all become used to on our TV screens and social feeds, of empty supermarket shelves and massive queues for food and basic supplies.

What to expect

Salary and benefits We know that it isn’t all about the money and it’s making a difference that motivates our people the most. We never want to lose sight of that, but we also know that when people are starting out on a new career, or moving to a new area of the country, it can be difficult. That’s why Hampshire has chosen to have the highest starting salary of any force in the South East, with new recruits currently joining on more than £24,000 plus allowances and benefits. As you develop your skills, this can rise to more than £40,000 after seven years as a police constable. And there could be opportunities for promotion and development on top of that.

How do I apply? NEW POLICE OFFICERS: For those who aren’t already in policing, there are now three main routes in. And don’t worry if you don’t have a degree. Some people think you need one to join, but that isn’t the case. We welcome degree holders (see Entry Routes 2 & 3 below) but many future officers will join Hampshire Constabulary under Entry Route 1, where you can actually earn a degree on the job, saving the cost of paying for one yourself.

Eligibility You will need to be at least 18 years old and have no criminal record; some minor offences may not exclude you, but you should check with us if you are concerned. You’ll also need a full UK manual driving licence.

You also need to have lived in the UK for the last three years, and have the right to live and work in the country indefinitely. There are some exceptions for those serving in the armed forces, members of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and those who have taken a career break or gap year to travel or work abroad for up to 12 months.

If you receive a conditional offer of employment or you are placed into a pool of successful candidates to whom we intend to make a conditional offer when the position arises, you must agree to undergo recruitment screening which may consist of vetting (including Biometrics), medical, references and a job-related fitness test. The criteria include:

 Having 6/36 uncorrected vision or 6/12 corrected in either eye AND 6/6 in both eyes. Laser correction is fine after six weeks, but severe colour vision deficiencies (monochromat) will prevent you from joining.  Having a body mass index (BMI) between 20 and 29.  Being able to reach level 5.4 on a 15-metre shuttle run.  Full eligibility criteria will be included at the point we advertise for police officer roles.

The Ford Dealer Apprenticeship Programme

The Ford Dealer Apprenticeship Programme (FDAP) successfully recruits approximately 500 new Apprentices into the Ford dealer network every year.

Today’s cars and commercial vehicles are the miracles of modern engineering and computer technology. Apprentices on the Ford Dealer Apprenticeship Programme can be assured that they will receive the highest standard of training to work with Ford vehicles and support the efficient running and success of the dealership.

The Programme is managed and co-ordinated for Ford by Skillnet Limited and is approved to deliver programmes lasting between 12 months and 3 years. Our technical programmes combine hands-on workshop training with block release for college training and study. Our non-technical programmes are delivered in the workplace.

Currently we have hundreds of opportunities nationwide and are particularly keen to speak to school and college leavers who would be in interested in exploring career opportunities in parts, customer service or business administration.

Entry Requirements

To become a Ford Apprentice applicants must meet an acceptable academic standard – the preference being a minimum of 3 GCSEs, including English and Maths at grade C / 4 or above

Apprentices are usually recruited straight from school aged 16-19 years, although opportunities exist for applicants outside this age range.

Suitable applicants will be invited to take a standard entry test to assess their aptitude. This will enable the dealer to choose the candidate(s) best suited to a place on the Ford Programme.

A traineeship is a course with work experience that gets you ready for work or an apprenticeship. It can last up to 6 months. You can apply if you’re:  eligible to work in England  unemployed and have little or no work experience  aged 16 to 24 and qualified below Level 3 You’ll get:  a work experience placement  help with English and maths (if you need it)

The work involved is stripping wallpaper, filling in 3 holes and then painting the bedroom. So would be a couple of days work. The materials for this will be provided.

Shopping Helpers MHA Southampton Live at Home We are seeking reliable people in Southampton to help us support older people with their weekly shopping needs. We mainly shop for vulnerable or disabled people who might struggle to get around a shop or more at risk and need to stay home to protect their health. All expenses are paid and full training and DBS is needed however the cost of this is covered by the organisation.

Befrienders MHA Southampton Live at Home Befrienders are matched to a member based on interests and this role would involve providing friendship to that member. This might be over the phone/via video chat or face to face. The normal commitment to this role is 1 hour per week and is very rewarding.

Mental Health Peer Support Worker Creative Options We are seeking two people with lived experience of their own mental health issues to share as a peer support worker at our new 'hope' cafe we are going to set up. This will be on a Saturday night for 3 hours, online initially but eventually face to face. We need two people on a rotation basis to work each week. It will also be taking part in online groups alongside a trained mental health professional in delivering group support

Van Driver Southampton Scrapstore We are looking for someone with experience of driving a van and local knowledge of Southampton's roads, to collect resources form our suppliers. We have weekly collections, such as Ikea, that need to be collected and then delivered to the store and unloaded. The idea candidate will be over 35 (for insurance purposes), have a clean driving licence for 3.5tonn van and have a keen knowledge of health and safety when loading and unloading a van. DBS preferred but we can supply one for you. hours will be 10am -1pm Monday and Thursday.
