9 Our Special Guests We are delighted to welcome and introduce our special guest for the evening, Isobel Pooley who is herself a former award winner at this event.

Isobel Pooley

Competing for Aldershot, Farnham & District, Isobel is now coached by the National High Jump coach Fuzz Ahmed and trains with Robbie Grabarz, London 2012 Olympic Bronze medallist. She has been selected for international honours every year between 2009 – 2015 representing Great Britain at senior level at the 2012 European Championships, 2013 European Team Championships and 2015 World Championships .

She was 4th at the European Under 23 Championships and ranked number one in the UK in 2010 & 2011 (under 20) 2012 (under 23) and 2013 at senior level.

2014 has so far proved to be Isobel’s best year to date, winning the Silver medal at the with a new Personal Best of 1.92m; and then breaking the outdoor UK record with a jump of 1.96m in Eberstadt Germany in August.

In July 2015, Isobel set another UK record of 1.97m in Birmingham. Following competing at the World Championships in , her sights are now firmly set on the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and to make the final at the 2017 World Championships which will be held in the Olympic Stadium in London.

Isobel Pooley Cove School Track and Field

Isobel had an outstanding season, including victories at the UK Schools’ Games and English Schools. She has dominated high jumping in the south and three times improved the Hampshire record of club-mate Antonia Bemrose, raising the record from 1.76m to 1.77m outdoors and 1.79m indoors. She beat the Championship bests at the Hampshire Schools and the Southern Championships.

Isobel represented the Senior Hampshire county athletics team with distinction, gaining a third place in the UK Inter-Counties Championships. She helped Hampshire schools to second placed team finishes at both (the highly competitive) South-East Schools Inter-Counties match and the English Schools’ Championships. Isobel is ranked 19th= all-time for the U17, the same height as former Senior UK record holder and Isobel’s best of 1.77m is one centimetre less than the current UK Senior record holder as an U17, Jessica Ennis – this year’s World Heptathlon champion.

Our host…. Daisy Robinson OlympicTorch Bearer and Games Maker

Daisy was an Olympic Torch Bearer and Games Maker at London 2012. She was chosen because of her dedication to Community Sport and her voluntary work. Daisy started her career in this field managing the Street Reach project in Winchester, supporting young people at risk of homelessness, unemployment and criminal activity as well as young carers and young people in care. For several years Daisy also delivered dance, film and drama classes to adults with physical and learning disabilities at local day centres, including the Hexagon and Bishopstoke Day Centre. In 2010 Daisy was awarded the Senior Volunteer of the Year Award 2010 at Eastleigh's Sports Awards and nominated for Hampshire’s Sports Awards.

In 2012 Daisy was chosen to be the Shining Light for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight at a commemorative Community Games relay for her dedication and passion to Community Sport and voluntary engagement. Daisy hosted last years event and we are delighted that she agreed to return to this evening.

Andrew Douglas The Gregg School Athletics

Andrew won all five competitions he entered during the indoor season – including the English Athletics U17 Championships. During the summer he recorded 13 victories including the Hampshire Schools Athletics Championships, English Schools Athletics Championships and the School International – where he was given the prestigious appointment of Captain. He finished the season top of the rankings, having maintained this position throughout the season.

14 Zakariya Mahamed Cantell School Cross Country

Having finished an outstanding second at the National Championships, Zak won the Hampshire Schools Championship, South East Inter-Counties Championship and the English Schools Cross Country Championship – beating his nearest competitor by 11 seconds.

Annie Lado Westgate School Badminton

Having represented England for over a year, Annie has recently moved up into the U15 age group at age 13. She won all her matches in the U15 international quad tournament. In April 2015, Annie became National Mixed Champion and also won silver medal in the Women’s Doubles and bronze in the Singles. This year also saw Annie winning her first European Gold Medal.

16 Ashley Briggs Noadswood School Basketball

Ashley has played an important role for a number of years in Noadswood’s success in local bastketball leagues and championships, becoming Hampshire Cup winners and competing in the National Cup for the first time. Outside school, Ashley is a key player for the Solent Kestrels U16 team and became part of the England squad competing in Europe during the summer. At National level Ashley was in the top ten rebounders for the European tournament and has been included in the England U18 development squad for the coming season.

Charlie Gunson Sparsholt College Football

Charlie has represented Hampshire Schools FA at all levels for the last four years. After many trials he made the final squad for the English Schools FA this season and played in all their International matches, starting with a friendly against Australia. Charlie is now continuing his football development at Sparsholt College as an Assistant Coach whilst studying for his BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sport. His ambition is to be a professional player.

18 Adrian Mylrea Noadswood School Golf

Having played golf since the age of 7, Adrian started the season with a handicap of 5 and played in the British Schools and Colleges Southern Open, finishing runner-up. In April, Adrian won the Boyle Cup at Bramshaw Golf Club, which is entered by some 120 men and women, and recorded a new Ladies course record score of 72 and winning by 2 shots. In winning this event, Adrian has qualified for the Champion of Champions Tournament and will be the first lady ever to participate in this event. Adrian has won several other competitions this season and was runner-up in the English Schools Golf Association U16 Girls Championship.

Nancy Hudson Kings’ School Netball

Nancy has been a committed member of the Kings’ School U16 netball team, leading them to success in their league. Her modesty and hardworking attitude is key to her successes this year – these include being selected for the county squad and more recently for Regional invitational training sessions.

20 Sebastian Herold Churcher’s College Rugby

As Captain of the Churcher’s College 1st XV, Seb Herold led the team from the front on every occasion this season. His contributions on and off the pitch were an inspiration to all and he personified the meaning of leading by example. At the quarter finals of the U18 Nat West Vase Cup, he scored 20 points in a 100% kicking display and was the cornerstone of the school’s eventual victory in the competition. Sebastian’s decision-making as Captain was outstanding and he galvanised, motivated and directed his team mates, allowing them to take full advantage of scoring opportunities – and to edge out a very physical and powerful opponent in the final.

Violetta Howard Testbourne Community College Small-Bore Rifle Shooting

Violetta is nominated for outstanding and consistent performance as a target shooter and for her dedication to her training and pursuit of excellence in the sport. She achieved 4th place in the Junior International match in August and was the highest placed GB shooter. With a long-term goal of a place in the GB team at the Tokyo Olympics, Violetta is one of just 6 athletes selected for a training place in the GB Academy.

22 Alfie Lawes Kings’ School Squash

This season Alfie was promoted to playing within the U15 age group at just 13 year’s old. Successes this year include 4th place in the National Inter-County Finals, top 10 in the English Junior Open and Winner in the U15 Lee-on-the-Solent Tournament. His positive attitude and commitment to the sport is a great example to the younger players and he volunteers as an assistant coach to younger players.

Martin Matuzevicius Portsmouth College Table Tennis

Martin’s many successes this year include Hampshire Schools U19 Individual Champion and Senior British League Division 3 Winner and Player of the Year. He won two of three other prestigious National competitions and was runner-up in the third. Ever-present at local and regional training sessions, Martin is a quiet and unassuming player who always gives his best and is well respected by his fellow players.

24 Tayla Porter Farnborough 6th Form College Trampolining

This season, Tayla captained the SE Region British Colleges Team who took part in the British Colleges Finals in March 2015. The team took Gold and individually, Tayla won the Silver, narrowly missing out on Individual Gold by 0.3 points. Tayla has competed internationally several times. She trains 5 times a week and hopes to develop into a senior international performer.

Agnes Swiecka Peter Symonds’ College

Agnes has played a key role in developing dance and cheerleading at Peter Symonds’ College over the past two years. Committed, hardworking and enthusiastic, she passed on her passion and expertise in dance to students wishing to learn new skills. She gives 4-5 hours a week of her own time to the college to develop dance opportunities.

Thanks to Agnes, the College have 23 girls cheerleading every week and 10 – 20 taking part in dance sessions. Agnes has developed an excellent rapport with her peers who come back to her classes every week.

In addition to these activities, Agnes is a central member of the Rock Challenge team and took the stage as female lead in this year’s performance. As part of this, she helps with the choreography, paperwork, costume design, stage set and music.

It’s not an easy task to persuade individuals to try something new – but Agnes does so with ease and professionalism.
