    Newsletter 4/2017 Der Schweizerischen Botschaft in Thailand, Kambodscha, Laos De l’ambassade de Suisse en Thaïlande, en Cambodge et au Laos April / Avril 2017 Vorwort von Botschafter Ivo Sieber Sehr geehrte Leserinnen und Leser Ich schreibe Ihnen diese Begrüssungszeilen während im Freien die Aussentemperaturen den jährlichen Höchstwerten zustreben. In knapp zwei Wochen wird in Thailand, Kambodscha und Laos mit traditionellen Festivitäten das buddhistische Neujahr gefeiert. In die heisseste Jahreszeit fallen hier in der Region auch die langen Schulferien, die den Schülern und Studenten nicht nur die verdiente Erholung bringen. Sie laden auch zur Reflektion über den Stellenwert der Bildung in einer sich rasch ändernden Umwelt ein. Dass das thailändische Bildungssystem Verbesserungspotential besitzt, hat die Regierung erkannt und Reformen in Aussicht gestellt. Die angestrebte Modernisierung der thailändischen Industrie auf die Stufe 4.0 kann nur über eine qualitativ Verbesserung der Kenntnisse und Fähigkeiten der Arbeitnehmer erreicht werden. Gerade in der Schweiz haben wir überzeugend bewiesen, wie wichtig Investitionen in Bildung und Forschung sind, um wettbewerbsfähig zu bleiben und dem steigenden globalen Konkurrenzdruck mit Flexibilität und einer zunehmenden Produktivität Paroli zu bieten. Auch hier in der Region stösst das schweizerische Bildungssystem auf Interesse. Sowohl in Laos als auch in Kambodscha fördert die schweizerische Entwicklungshilfe – unter Bezugnahme auf das duale schweizerische Bildungssystem - die berufliche und technische Ausbildung. Dabei stösst sie seitens der dortigen Regierungen wie auch der Wirtschaft auf reges Interesse. Beim kürzlichen Besuch von Botschafter Thomas Greminger, dem stellvertretenden Direktor der Direktion für Entwicklung und Zusammenarbeit DEZA in Laos und Kambodscha wurde dieses Interesse in beiden Hauptstädten sowie bei Projektbesuchen unterstrichen.
