ENCOUNTERING the Risen Lord Jesus Christ, LIVING as His missionary disciples and SHARING His fullness of life in the spirit of St. Thérèse

Page 2 LITTLE FLOWER CATHOLIC PARISH FATHER DAVE NUSS TO LOVE AS JESUS LOVED Sixth Sunday of Easter [B]

Today’s picks up right where we left off last Sunday. Continuing His discourse about real discipleship, Jesus promises that great things await everyone who dares to remain with Him (John 15:9-17).

And what aches more in our heart than our longing for joy. Jesus says that deep contagious joy is in store for those who love as He did.

Forget fickle feelings that are here one moment and gone the next. When our lives model Jesus, we come to discover that love is a choice. What a bold action it is to love as Jesus loved and one that truly makes all the difference.

Love is a generous offering that never keeps score, with sacrifice that is ultimate: “No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends” (v. 13). So has Jesus loved us. It now stands for us to imitate Him.

Special Thanks From A Grateful Priest & Pastor

One short year ago our church still was shuttered by decree of the bishop in response to Covid danger. We rallied as best week could because of parish and school leaders who dared to love God and love neighbor.

What an astonishing I receive working alongside such outstanding people.

Some leaders – even church leaders - mistakenly believe it is their plan that saves the day. Jesus saves!

He has and continues to save me through deeply meaningful relationships with tremendous colleagues dedicated to giving their best to God and generously serving all those whom God places before them.

I am grateful beyond words to all the members of our parish leadership team along with the faculty and staff of Saint Benedict Catholic School.

God graciously has put them into my life to become a better priest and pastor. Please notice their genuine care and dedicated service by expressing your sincere thanks to them and remembering to pray for them and their beautiful families.

LITTLE FLOWER CATHOLIC PARISH Page 3 ENGAGING DISCIPLES REMEMBER IN PRAYER I had my first encounter of the season with For our Sick a bee the other day. It is a wonderful reminder that summer will soon be upon Hold these sick in Your healing love... us. While bees usually stir me to a Jim DeRaedt, Kitty Kufel, Harold Myers, Fran Rogalski, somewhat knee-jerk reaction, they also Matt Steffin, Juanita Blankenship, Melissa Capponi, fascinate me. Anthony Silvestri, Joan Hoag Gilliland, Michael Dastoli, Rodolfo Barboza, Art Sussman, Shirley Szalkowski, The process by which bees draw nectar Savanna Wylie, Mindy Koralewski, JoAnn Miller, from flowers, transport it, and then prepare it to be Kathleen Kennedy, Luette Pawlaczyk, Mary Burchette, processed into honey is a detailed and rather incredible Lila Szparka, Joseph Feustle, Terry M., Jennifer manifestation of God’s creativity and care. Bees work Albaugh, Ayden Carter Reams, JoAnn Kennerly, Benita together to nectar from literally millions of flowers. Hartman, Joseph Hartman, Tim Brunner, Matthew Ward, They know how to draw out the very sweetest nectar the Tim Keating, Linda Lea Barron, Richard Madrzykowski, flower has to offer. They carry what they have collected to Rose Koralewski, Marie Sharp Bryant, Edward a common store of nectar along with the contributions of other bees. The result is a far richer and nourishing Czechowski, Jr, Jim Ochs, Mitch Gaynor, Bob & Carol product than the original nectar. Caswell, Kathy Healy, Tiffany Parent, Barb Spears, Bernard Leite, Rusty Szkowny, Alice Resnick, Wanda I am reminded that I am to draw out what is sweetest from Beczynski, Terry Szperski, Laura Fullum, Jim Tierney, each person I encounter. I can choose to latch on to the Jackie Polzin positive or the negative, the life-giving or the harmful words and actions of others. I cannot control others, but I can control what I take from them. The greater the For our Military variety of people I encounter, the richer the flavor of my Bless and protect these military who own life. If I choose to hoard what I have received from serve us with honor and dignity... others, it will be far less useful than if I, in turn, contribute Frederick Geck; Christine Farynaz, Patrick Langenderfer, what I have gathered to the common good. My task is to Dylan Coy, Brianna Vargo, Aidan Barnovsky, Christopher process the “nectar” I have gathered, using my own gifts Davis, Matt Barchick, Kevin Jenq, Samuel Nusbaum, and talents, and then place it at the service of others. I can Stephen Kretz, Jason Arndt, Kevin Kretz, Dustin Jeffrey, choose to feed the world! Perhaps I share an insight Chase Rogalski, Joseph Diehl, Shane Kohtz, Ciara someone has shared with me. Perhaps I “pay it forward” (Gentle) Stevenson, Corey Browne, Kevin W. Smith, by praying for someone whose need another has shared David M. Lambert, Chelsea Holmes, James Jagodzinski, with me. Perhaps I work with someone to find a way to Dominique & Nate Davis, James Waddington, Patrick encourage or support someone in the community. Bishop (US Naval Academy)

In a real way, we are part of a spiritual food chain that can provide the nourishment our world so desperately needs. Who will you feed today? For those who celebrated SACRED SCRIPTURE IN CONTEXT First Holy . Jesus, fill our body, heart and mind

Acts 10:25-26, 34-35, 44-48 Corrine Lingvai It is God’s freely given power - grace – that makes it Oscar Paskiet possible for us to remain with Jesus. Genuine Christians – intentional disciples - are unconcerned with worldly status and recognition. Instead they seek to live as instruments of God’s love.

John 15:9-17 For our Engaged Couples Today’s Gospel Reading sounds like a last will and Nurture and strengthen the love testament. Our blessed Lord intends for these words of His of these engaged couples…. to remain alive in the hearts of believers. A bold promise is declared: Jesus professes His love, a love unto death for Eric Simcox and Mariah Burkhart His friends. As His friends, it now is for us to live the promise He has fulfilled. Page 4 LITTLE FLOWER CATHOLIC PARISH FAITH FORMATION FIRST COMMUNION RETREAT

How can you celebrate the women who are mothers in your life? Consider paying their way to participate in the upcoming Women’s ACTS Retreat on the weekend of June 3-6, 2021. In addition to financial support, helping them to free their schedule for that weekend would be a wonderful gift! If they have already made the retreat, perhaps you could gift them with the time and space to be renewed in the grace of the retreat on their own or with their ACTS sisters. The possibilities are endless! Registration forms for the retreat can be found at the Church entrances. If you have questions about the retreat or need financial assistance, contact Chelsea Mouch ([email protected]) or Anna Allegrini ([email protected]).

FORMED: On this Mother’s Day, we celebrate the role of women in our families, our Church and our world. In this talk, Real Womanhood, given to a group of women at the FOCUS national conference, Lisa Cotter debunks the myths of modern-day stereotypical womanhood. Using insights from the late Pope St. John Paul II and the heroic example of modern-day saints, Lisa gets to the truth about what it means to be an authentic woman. https://watch.formed.org/videos/real-womanhood-by-lisa- cotter
