(note du traducteur). 2 BT044_FatimaTimeline-French_LR_for_WEB.pdf Le Plan de Fatima (1916 – 2015) 1916: Le Ciel prépare les trois voyants de Fatima aux Apparitions de Notre Dame.

What the timing of these two events means in the plan of Divine Providence may be unknown, but developments since then show that Fatima remains uppermost in the minds of many Catholics throughout the world. Shortly after the English edition of the biography appeared, for example, attorney Christopher Ferrara criticized a passage in the translation involving words of Our Lady, and he interpreted the mistranslated passage as a deliberate attempt to alter the facts relating to the Third Secret.

  • Jews and Judaism in the Political Theology of Radical Catholic Traditionalists
Jews and Judaism in the Political Theology of Radical Catholic Traditionalists Mark Weitzman ABSTRACT The controversies over Holocaust-denying Bishop Richard Williamson, and earlier over Mel Gibson’s film, The Passion of the Christ, have given prominence to radical Catholic traditionalists and their growing influence. The recent pontificate of Pope Benedict XVI saw a great investment of political capital seeking reconciliation with the Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX), yet this effort failed, in great part due to the antisemitism that permeates the Society. Williamson and the Holocaust deniers are often represented as isolated individual representatives of the radical traditionalists, especially after Williamson’s expulsion from the SSPX. In reality it can be argued that the radical traditionalist movement is based upon classical supercessionist theology and that there has often been an effort to cloak this theology from public view. I will trace its roots from Europe to the United States, focusing on Father Charles Coughlin, the “radio priest” whose audience stretched into the millions before World War II; and the Irish priest, Denis Fahey, the theologian most quoted by Coughlin, whose influence continues to be strong in those circles today. I will also survey connections with far right extremists and neo-Nazis and demonstrate the shared Holocaust denial and classical theological antisemitism that link these groups and threatens to negate the gains made since Vatican II that have nurtured the Jewish-Catholic relationship over the past 45 years. Finally, we will assess some of the possible implications of this trend for the future of Jewish-Catholic relations, particularly after the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI and the election of Pope Francis.

The imposing honor of an invitation to respond to James Davison Hunter provided the welcome occasion to study his most recent book, To Change the World: The Irony, Tragedy, and Possibility of Christianity in the Late Modern World.1 As I made my way through Hunter’s iconoclastic work, I frequently found myself nodding in agreement, admiring the clarity of many of his insights, and anticipating the various arguments’ implications for this world of ours that is, on any honest accounting, thick with law. The more I read, therefore, the more I wondered, especially as someone whose field is law, when Hunter would finally take up the topic of law, thematize law, and say how we are to use law—or not use it—“to change the world.” With one partial but important exception, however, Hunter hardly mentions law except several times in passing.2 The one partial exception covers approximately a page and a half in Essay II, Chapter 6, “Illusion, Irony, and Tragedy,” the essence of which can be fairly captured by the following two block quotes: * John F.

Whatever the merits of this approach, it has suffered from a lack of a sustained defense of its pre-modern metaphysical panorama: the Aristotelian conception of the human good gets traction only if its decidedly pre-modern and ‘robust’ philosophy of nature is defensible in its own right.

  • Sedevacantism and Mr. Ferrara's Cardboard Pope
Sedevacantism and Mr. Ferrara’s Cardboard Pope (2005) by Rev. Anthony Cekada Recognizing the pope — but “for display purposes only”. A NEW JERSEY lawyer and traditionalist, Christopher A. Ferra- ra, Esq., has recently produced an anti-sedevacantist tract enti- tled “Defending the Papacy: Opposing the Sedevacantist Enter- prise.” It has been widely circulated by Catholic Family News and the Fatima Industry flagship publication, The Fatima Crusader. Halfway through his article — the first of a promised series on sedevacantism — Mr. Ferrara remarks: “In this time of ecclesial confusion, many Catholics do not recognize a theological absurdity when they see one.” Well, I for one certainly do — and Mr. Ferrara’s article is loaded with them. It’s a rich and heady stew of errors, half-truths and misrep- resentations about theological terms (visibility), Vatican I’s teaching on the pope (perpetuity), canonical maxims (“The First See is judged by no one”), specialized canon law terms (mani- fest), church history (the cases of Popes Honorius and John XXII), papal bulls (Paul IV’s Cum ex Apostolatus), and much, much more. Mr. Ferrara’s polemical method is thoroughly dishonest: He says that identifying sedevacantist “spokesmen” is “not relevant to the aim of this essay,” so he identifies neither the authors nor the articles he is attacking. (He quotes or paraphrases me a number of times.) His real aim, of course, is to prevent readers from looking up articles that he fears are too convincing. His opening argument is a lengthy attack on his targets’ san- ity. Sedevacantists adhere to a “patent absurdity.” They are sometimes “highly intelligent” but nevertheless exhibiting the “impenetrable self-enclosed reasoning of a madman.” Transla- tion: Ignore all evidence, folks.

Reflections on the October 13, 2013 Marian Day Our Continued Need to Pray and Sacrifice and Petition for the Consecration of Russia by James Hanisch Pope Francis has not been shy about giving the world an example of devotion to the Mother of God, and in particular to Our Lady of Fatima. In the early morning of the first day after his election, he made an impromptu visit to the Basilica of St. Mary Major, where he made a special veneration of the ancient Icon of Our Lady, the Salus Populi Romani. Then within weeks of his election, he insisted (asking repeatedly!) that the Cardinal Archbishop of Lisbon – in whose jurisdiction the Fatima Shrine lies – consecrate the new pontificate to Our Lady of Fatima. This consecration of Francis’ pontificate took place at the Fatima Shrine on May 13, 2013, as part of the international pilgrimage commemorating the anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima’s first apparition. All the bishops of Portugal participated in this consecration, giving it a striking resemblance to the Consecration which Our Lady requested – a joint episcopal act performed by order of the Pope. Pope Francis is the first Pope ever to have consecrated his pontificate to Our Lady of Fatima, in the 96 years since Our Lady’s apparitions of 1917. This gesture was even more dramatic in light of the recent efforts of Cardinals Sodano and Bertone (who served consecutively as Vatican Secretary of State) to bury the Message of Fatima, throughout a ruthless decade-long campaign. Between the years 2000 and 2010 the Secretariat of State acted as the zealous enforcement arm of a Party-line established in the Vatican’s June 26, 2000 publication, The Message of Fatima: “The decision of His Holiness Pope John Paul II to make public the third part of the ‘secret’ of Fatima brings to an end a period of history marked by tragic human lust for power and evil...
