• From January to December 2015, there were 12 outbreaks of FMD reported from 07 provinces (Kampong Speu, Kampong Cham, Prey Veng, Pursat, Svay Rieng, Tboung Khmum and Kandal) • Cause 439 heads of cattle; 03 heads of buffaloes and 12 heads of pigs were shown clinical signs and among that there were 05 heads of cattle were dead • A total of 17 samples had been collected and the results of testin were Sero-type O, A and Asia1 Morbidity and mortality of FMD from January to December 2015

• Organize the meeting with provincial animal health and production offices for sharing FMD information and FMD-ROK project activities in January 2015 and also distribute intervention materials to all provinces

Laboratory Training in NaVRI, 2015

• Under FMD-ROK Project, conduct the in-house training on FMD diagnosis for laboratory staff in National Veterinary Research Institute from 13-21 February 2015 in Phnom Penh • Follow-up on FMD diagnosis for laboratory staff in National Veterinary Research Institute from 30 March to 03 April 2015 in Phnom Penh by Dr. Somjai Kamolsirichaiporn from RRL, Pakchong, Thailand FMD outbreak investigation • With OIE support, conducted FMD outbreak investigation and management training in Siem Reap province from 02-05 June 2015 for 11 provinces (Kampot, Koah Kong, Mondulkiri, Phnom Penh, Ratanakiri, Preah Sihanouk, Steung Traeng, Kep, Preah Vihear, Siem Reap, Odar Meanchey) which have 22 participants. • The objectives of this training is to utilise the expertise of in-country trainers to improve the skills of animal health officers at provincial and district levels in FMD outbreak investigation, management and reporting systems

Trainings in NaVRI

• Conducted training on Occupational Health and Safety for laboratory staff at NaVRI from 20-22 July 2015 which have 30 participants • This training will enable participants to: • Understand the basic knowledge of occupational health and safety • Enable to identify hazards around the workplace • Evaluate and determine the level of risks • Establish precaution and control against risk • Experience in conducting an actual risk assessment Trainings in NaVRI (20-22/07/2015)

FAO International Consultant Mission from 27-31 July 2015

• Conduct dissemination workshop on Cambodian National FMD Plan on 25 September 2015 – Sharing the endorsed National FMD plan – Sharing the SOPs for FMD outbreak investigation Participatory Communication Strategy Design Workshop • Conducted Participatory Communication Strategy Design Workshop on 22 October 2015. The objectives: – Discuss lessons learned from previous studies and meetings – Design a practical communication strategy that the government can undertake with or without external technical and funding assistance – Discuss monitoring and evaluation strategy of agreed communication strategy • Expected outcomes – Participants will understand the lessons learned from previous studies and meetings and relate these to achievable communication/behavior change objectives – Participatory communication strategy report with detailed practical methodology in view of absence of external and/or local private funding – Mechanism in monitoring and evaluation Animal disease surveillance

• Conduct sero-survey in Kampong Cham province in November 2015 under FMD-ROK Project • Conduct surveillance on trans-boundary animal diseases (FMD, HS, PRRS and CSF) in 3 target provinces (Svay Rieng, Takeo and Tboung Khmum) under ADB-SPS Project Meeting/ Workshop • Attended the 21st Meeting of the OIE Sub-Commission for Foot and Mouth Disease in South-East Asia and China in Manila, Philippines from 10-13 March 2015 • Attended the workshop on the OIE Procedure for the endorsement of official national control program and for the official recognition of Member Countries’ disease status with regards to Foot and Mouth Disease in Bangkok, Thailand from 07-08 July 2015 • Attend 18th SEAFMD National Coordinator Meeting in Qingdao, China, 26-28 August 2015 • Attend the Third Meeting of the ASEAN Ad-Hoc Veterinary Epidemiology Group (AVEG), Nunthaburi, Thailand, 11-13 November 2015 Resources and Funding for FMD Control and Capacity Building – ADB-SPS Project – FMD-ROK Project – DAHP Project (government fund) Constraints and Solutions Employed/To be considered • Late reporting from the village level so how to encourage grass-root level to participate in the report system? • Laboratory operation cost and maintenance • Involvement of private sectors in the reporting of animal diseases • How to improve the biosecurity at farms/village level? • The budget to purchase the vaccines from government is limited Future Activities (1) • Organize the workshop for extension of law on animal production and health • Implement law and the national FMD control plan • Strengthen animal disease surveillance, outbreak investigation and response; and disease reporting system • strengthen disease diagnosis and proficiency testing • Conduct the public awareness for all stakeholders on animal diseases and its impact Future Activities (2) • Collaboration on field of Epidemiology and laboratory between Cambodia and Argentina • Conduct animal disease surveillance (FMD, HS, CSF, PRRS) in three target provinces supported by ADB-SPS Project • Strengthen disease reporting system through supporting from FMD-ROK and EU-Project THANK YOU
