ARLINGTON TRANSIT (ART) ANNUAL RIDERSHIP: Highlights Arlington has increased Arlington Transit (ART) bus service within the 22202 zip code since 2013, adding two additional routes and ridership is increasing. Description This data shows historical annual ridership data for Arlington Transit (ART) bus routes that provide service within the 22202 zip code area or to the Pentagon Metro Station. The data is reported by Arlington County each fiscal year. With the addition of ART Route 92 in 2015, a total of three ART routes serve the communities within the study area. The ART 87 route started running in 2009 as the first ART route serving the 22202 zip code area. ART service in the study area was further expanded in 2014 with the beginning of the ART 43 and 92 services. ART 87: The ART 87 Route provides daily service between the Shirlington Bus Station and Pentagon Metro Station on weekdays and to Pentagon City Metro Station on weekends, with stops along South Walter Reed Drive, Glebe Road and Army Navy Drive. The 87A provides one way rush hour service from 26th Street South and South Troy Street to Pentagon Metro Station in the morning and from the Pentagon Metro Station to 26th Street South and South Troy Street in the afternoon and evening. The 87X buses are express trips between Pentagon Metro Station and Shirlington Stations. The 87P service runs between the Pentagon Metro Station and South Lang Street during PM rush hours. This service started in June 2009 and, in April 2011, schedule changes were made adding the A and X routes. ART 43: The ART 43 service is a weekday peak period loop with service to Crystal City Metro and VRE stations to the Rosslyn Metro, and Court House Metro stations. This service started in March 2014 to address peak period schedule changes implemented by Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), reducing the Metrorail Blue Line service as part of the Rush Plus plan. ART 92: The ART 92 is a convenient way to get around the Crystal City area during weekdays. Stops include the Crystal City Metro and VRE Stations, Crystal Gateway Hotel, the soccer fields at Long Bridge Park, and the Pentagon Metro Station. The route also serves as a shuttle for those working at the Boeing building to get to the Metro or VRE. This service started in October 2014. ARLINGTON TRANSIT (ART) ANNUAL RIDERSHIP: Conclusions Arlington continues to increase ART bus service in the 22202 zip code area with the addition of two new routes since 2014, totaling three routes. Annual ridership on the ART 87 in FY 2015 was approximately 275,000 trips, about the same as it was for FY 2010 when service started. Ridership on the route has fluctuated from year to year. In FY 2012 annual ridership on the ART 87 peaked at approximately 310,000 annual trips and fell to its lowest levels in FY 2014 with about 240,000 annual trips. Data Source This data is gathered by the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission (NVTC) from Arlington County. NVTC compiles transit information directly from local and regional transit service providers operating in Northern Virginia.
