Arlington Transit (Art) Annual Ridership ARLINGTON TRANSIT (ART) ANNUAL RIDERSHIP: Highlights Arlington has increased Arlington Transit (ART) bus service within the 22202 zip code since 2013, adding two additional routes and ridership is increasing. Description This data shows historical annual ridership data for Arlington Transit (ART) bus routes that provide service within the 22202 zip code area or to the Pentagon Metro Station. The data is reported by Arlington County each fiscal year. With the addition of ART Route 92 in 2015, a total of three ART routes serve the communities within the study area. Arlington Transit (ART) Annual Ridership by Route 22202 Transportation and Planning Data Compilation & Reporting ARLINGTON TRANSIT (ART) ANNUAL RIDERSHIP: Context in Planning Spectrum Where is this data used in the planning spectrum? Coordinated County Building Level Sector Plans & Site Plans & Regional Comprehensive Transportation Small Area Plans PDSPs Planning Plan Studies Background ART routes provide service within the County and are operated by Arlington County. The ART 87 route started running in 2009 as the first ART route serving the 22202 zip code area. ART service in the study area was further expanded in 2014 with the beginning of the ART 43 and 92 services. ART 87: The ART 87 Route provides daily service between the Shirlington Bus Station and Pentagon Metro Station on weekdays and to Pentagon City Metro Station on weekends, with stops along South Walter Reed Drive, Glebe Road and Army Navy Drive. The 87A provides one way rush hour service from 26th Street South and South Troy Street to Pentagon Metro Station in the morning and from the Pentagon Metro Station to 26th Street South and South Troy Street in the afternoon and evening. The 87X buses are express trips between Pentagon Metro Station and Shirlington Stations. The 87P service runs between the Pentagon Metro Station and South Lang Street during PM rush hours. This service started in June 2009 and, in April 2011, schedule changes were made adding the A and X routes. ART 43: The ART 43 service is a weekday peak period loop with service to Crystal City Metro and VRE stations to the Rosslyn Metro, and Court House Metro stations. This service started in March 2014 to address peak period schedule changes implemented by Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), reducing the Metrorail Blue Line service as part of the Rush Plus plan. ART 92: The ART 92 is a convenient way to get around the Crystal City area during weekdays. Stops include the Crystal City Metro and VRE Stations, Crystal Gateway Hotel, the soccer fields at Long Bridge Park, and the Pentagon Metro Station. The route also serves as a shuttle for those working at the Boeing building to get to the Metro or VRE. This service started in October 2014. ARLINGTON TRANSIT (ART) ANNUAL RIDERSHIP: Conclusions Arlington continues to increase ART bus service in the 22202 zip code area with the addition of two new routes since 2014, totaling three routes. Annual ridership on the ART 87 in FY 2015 was approximately 275,000 trips, about the same as it was for FY 2010 when service started. Ridership on the route has fluctuated from year to year. In FY 2012 annual ridership on the ART 87 peaked at approximately 310,000 annual trips and fell to its lowest levels in FY 2014 with about 240,000 annual trips. Data Source This data is gathered by the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission (NVTC) from Arlington County. NVTC compiles transit information directly from local and regional transit service providers operating in Northern Virginia.     METRO METRO METRO 2017 − 2026 CIP Metro Funding Project Description The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA/Metro) is a unique federal-state-local partnership formed to provide mass transit service to the Washington Metropolitan region. WMATA's Adopted FY 2017 - FY 2022 Capital Budget consists of $6.0 billion of critical system projects necessary to maintain the Metrobus, Metrorail, and Metroaccess systems over the next six years. The program focuses heavily on replacement / rehab of the system's aging rail infrastructure with minimal enhancement investments. Also included is the funding of an additional 220 7000-series railcars and associated rail power system upgrades. These additional railcars will be used to retire all 192 of the original 5000-series railcars, one of the most unreliable series in the current fleet. The remaining 28 railcars will be used for minimal capacity expansion along the red line. Funding for the WMATA capital program is from a combination of state, federal, regional and local sources. For Arlington, the total adopted six-year funding commitment is approximately $186 million, consisting of $106 million of annual subsidy payments, and $80 million of planned debt issuance by WMATA. Over ten-years, Arlington has programmed $280 million, with increased funding in the out-years primarily for service expansion projects. This fully funds Arlington's baseline funding of WMATA, and funds $55 million of planned debt issuance based on historical capital program execution rates. A combination of general obligation bonds, state grants and regional gas tax are used to fund Arlington's share of WMATA subsidy. A new multi-year capital funding agreement is currently being drafted among WMATA contributing jurisdictions to cover fiscal years 2018 -2023 and is anticipated to begin in the fall of 2016.

    TRANSIT PERFORMANCE IN THE I-66 INSIDE THE BELTWAY CORRIDOR June 2018 This report summarizes the performance of public transportation systems serving the I-66 inside the Beltway corridor in Northern Virginia. In December 2017, the Commonwealth of Virginia instituted dynamic tolling during peak periods along I-66, from the Capital Beltway in Fairfax County to the Roosevelt Bridge leading to Washington, D.C. This stretch of roadway was previously a restricted facility, limited to high occupancy vehicles (HOV2) during commuting hours, inbound (east) in the morning and outboard (west) in the afternoon. Upon implementation of the dynamic tolling, the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission (NVTC) initiated the I-66 Commuter Choice program, a multimodal grant program that funds transit and transportation demand management services to complement the tolling in order to move more people through the corridor during peak periods. As part of this effort, NVTC began tracking the overall transit performance changes along this corridor. OVERVIEW Public transportation plays an important role along the I-66 inside the Beltway corridor, transporting approximately 40 percent of commuters during peak periods. That’s a more than three times greater transit mode share than Northern Virginia as a whole. Public transit ridership along the corridor generally follows regional and national public transportation ridership trends, which have showed some decline. In contrast to this trend, express buses, some of which are funded by the I-66 Commuter Choice program, experienced strong and growing ridership, while demonstrating faster and more reliable running times due to I-66 tolling and resulting traffic condition improvements.     Crystal City/Potomac Yard Corridor Interim Transit Improvement Project Draft Technical Memorandum: Service Implementation Plan December 2005 1.0 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Overall Concept and Project Phasing The Crystal City/Potomac Yard Corridor Interim Transit Improvement Project is focused on developing an implementation program for interim transit improvements in the corridor running between the Pentagon/Pentagon City and Crystal City, in Arlington, to Potomac Yard and the Braddock Road Metrorail Station in Alexandria. These improvements will coincide with the development of Potomac Yard and redevelopment in Pentagon City and Crystal City. It is anticipated that this interim plan would precede implementation of a higher capacity transit system in the corridor. This memorandum outlines the service planning process, highlights detailed assumptions made during this process, and documents characteristic of the proposed service plan. The focus of the implementation will be phased steps toward rationalizing corridor transit service. This phased implementation will transition from multiple providers to a uniform, branded, premium service running between southern termini at the Braddock Road Metrorail Station and Potomac Yard Town Center, and northern termini at the Pentagon and Pentagon City. This memorandum discusses three phases of a corridor-wide transit implementation plan (immediate, short-term, and mid-term) but focuses on the mid-term (4 to 7 year) time frame, wherein a uniform branded service is assumed to extend the length of the study corridor. 2.0 EXISTING CONDITIONS 2.1 Existing Transit Service in the Potomac Yard area The Crystal City/Potomac Yard corridor is currently served by six Metrobus routes and one Arlington Transit (ART) route, described below.
