Abstracts / 103 Welcoming adress from Mr. Lucian Dindirică, Manager of “Alexandru and Aristia Aman” County Library – Dolj Ladies and gentlemen, First of all, allow me, as the manager of "Alexandru and Aristia Aman" Dolj County Library, to wish you a warm welcome here, in Craiova, at the library. We open today the 8th edition of the International Conference State and Society in Europe. For almost two weeks, Craiova will be the scene of debates, presentations and interventions of the highest academic level. Aman Library, together with The Faculty of Theology of Craiova, Universitaries House and Art Museum of Craiova, will host the entire event, so I hope you will spend here pleasant and productive moments. In a time of full technological and informational upsurge, we all enjoy the fruits of this unprecedented development. Although it is hard for us to admit, most of the times the technological development generates a perverse, dangerous effect. It is a clear fact that lecture and private reading are on a descending course. Us, the librarians, teachers and scholars have the duty to promote and organize events and manifestations dedicated to knowledge and education. "Alexandru and Aristia Aman" Dolj County 5 Library therefore continues this year, the tradition of organizing international conferences. Provided that the International Conference Politics. Diplomacy. Culture reached the 2nd edition – we are organizing the 3rd edition next summer - , the International Conference State and Society in Europe opens today for the 8th time. Because of the large area of subjects and themes that the conference reunites, we hope that, shortly, this manifestation would be recognized as one of the most important and appreciated scientific reunion of our country. The first edition of the International Conference State and Society in Europe, held in 2009, brought together, in Craiova, numerous researchers, professors, and personalities of the academic community. Each and every organized edition, made Craiova the epicenter of a high level scientific manifestations, fact that we also wish for this year’s edition. The large number of participants that applied for the works of our conference and the expertise of all included in our program, confirm the importance and the prestige enjoyed by our manifestation. Invariably, another explanation of this large participation is explained by the opportunity of publishing the articles sustained within the conference in a new magazine: Journal of Humanities, Culture and Social Sciences. The first number of this scientific magazine was issued in August this year, and the second number will be issued by the end of the year. We also have in view the participation of our city in the competition for the title of European Capital of Culture t in 2021. Dolj County Library is one of the local institutions that generate cultural projects each month and each day, and this conference is part of the series of important cultural events developed within this project sustained by Dolj County Council and the Mayoralty of Craiova. 6 Finally, I wish success to all participants and special guests, success in sustaining their articles; I also wish you a pleasant stay in Craiova. The organization of this 8th edition of the International Conference State and Society in Europe was the result of close collaboration, an efficient one, between the key actors: "Alexandru and Aristia Aman" Dolj County Library, "Alexandru and Aristia Aman" Foundation, respectively the Romanian Academy, the "CS Nicolaescu Plopşor "- Craiova Social-Humanist Sciences Institute, Scientists Academy of Romania, the Archeological and Historical Sciences Department and the University of Craiova, the Faculty of Social Sciences and The Faculty of Theology. • Priest Ioan Hornea from Arad in the Communist Prisons and His Confession Lucian Farcaşiu
TEOLOGIA 4 \ 2017 TEO, ISSN 2247-4382 73 (4), pp. 75-87, 2017 Priest Ioan Hornea from Arad in the Communist Prisons and His Confession Lucian Farcaşiu Lucian Farcaşiu “Hilarion V. Felea” Faculty of Orthodox Theology, Arad, Romania Email: [email protected] Abstract The present study presents the biography of the confessor Ioan Hornea from Arad region, who suffered for Christ in the communist prisons during his theological formation. The martyrdom of Father Ioan Hornea continued after his return from detention, when although ordained a priest and fi nally settled in several parishes of our diocese, he did not escape the attention of Securitate organs. Thus, he was constantly searched at home, intimidated, and summoned to hearings together with his presbytera. Despite this continuous terror, Father Ioan Hornea had the courage to confess Christ all the way in an atheistic world. After the establishment of religious freedom in Romania, since 1989 a new period of Father Ioan Hornea’s existence begins: he kept on serving and preaching Christ all along, on making the Christian education of the youth in schools and high-schools, on caring for “Oastea Domnului” (The Army of the Lord) movement in Arad region, which he was a true father to, on getting involved in the social work by regular religious assistance at the hospitals and the orphanages from Arad. Through this contribution, we wanted to pay homage to Father Ioan Hornea, the spiritual father and missionary, the suffering and the shepherd, the prayer and the accomplice of love for God and his fellow. Keywords Ioan Hornea, priest, from Arad, prisons, communism, confession STUDIES AND ARTICLES 75 TEOLOGIA Lucian Farcaşiu 4 \ 2017 I.

Section – History and Cultural Mentalities GIDNI PEOPLE AND PLACES IN THE HISTORY OF TÂRGOVIŞTE Cristina Furtună, Assist., PhD Candidate, ”Valahia” University of Târgoviște Abstract: In history, Târgovişte has been an economic, administrative, political center but also a cultural one, particularly important for the Romanian culture. In Târgovişte, the topic of time returns obstinately (Prehistoric Time, Antiquity, Middle Ages, Renaissance Time, Modern Time), understood according to the definition given to it by St. Augustine – mobile image of eternity. Antiquity represented time symbolically as a circle, with 12 astrological signs on it and whose center symbolized the eternity of being. Similarly, Târgovişte is an eternal city of the Oriental Roman world. The symbolical passage from temporal to spatial involves the material evidence, seen as an adversary of extinction in the being’s fight for eternity, concept that permanently joined the terrestrial representation of the existence, so present in the area of Târgovişte. Keywords: Târgovişte, book, writers, places, history, culture, time Introduction In time, Târgovişte has been an economic, administrative, political but also cultural centre, particularly important for the Romanian culture. It was first attested by the documents at the end of the 14th century and culturally thrived at the beginning of the 15th century. Different writing and communication experts appear (grămătici, pisari, dieci but also logofeţi and princely emissaries/ soli domneşti), assuring the commercial and diplomatic connection with the neighboring countries. Târgovişte was also a princely residence and has preserved the marks of its cultural institutions. It is in Târgovişte that the first Romanian grammar appeared and it is also here that erudite scholars such as Macarie, Udrişte Năsturel, senechal Constantin Cantacuzino and voivodes who set up cultural institutions (such as Radu cel Mare, Neagoe Basarab, Mihai Viteazul, Matei Basarab) carried out their activity.

  • 124 Warfare Actions of the Large Romanian Military
WARFARE ACTIONS OF THE LARGE ROMANIAN MILITARY UNITS FOR DEFENSE AND EVACUATION OF CRIMEA IN WORLD WAR II Colonel (ret.) professor Benone ANDRONIC, PhD* Abstract: Researching the existing Romanian and foreign bibliography, regarding the circumstances in which combat forces from the Romanian Army will end up carrying out combat actions, together with Wehrmacht troops, for the defense of Crimea and then the evacuation of troops from the Peninsula, in the World War II, the authors highlight some aspects of these operations, which are less known, and which have sometimes given rise to different and even biased approaches. The analysis shows the steps taken by Marshal Ion Antonescu and the Chief of the General Staff of the Romanian Army, General Ilie Șteflea, to determine Hitler to order the evacuation of troops from large units of the Romanian Army in Crimea, as well as the execution thereof. Keywords: Crimea as strategic objective in the Black Sea; coalition war; politico-military decisions; the Soviet offensive; defense of German-Romanian forces; evacuation of troops. Introduction In July 1942, after the total conquest of Crimea by German and Romanian troops, the southern flank of the German-Soviet front would become the center of gravity for military operations. On June 28, 1942, Army Groups B and A began offensive operations with the mission to conquer the Stalingrad and reach the Volga, as well as the subsequent conquest of the Caucasus, to gain access to oil fields, a mandatory condition for the offensive continuation on Soviet territory. In the summer of 1942, the Wehrmacht Army, although advancing in the depths of Russian territory, was stopped at Stalingrad1, because it aimed to conquer both it and the Caucasus at the same time and not in turn, which * corresponding member of the Romanian Scientists Academy, [email protected].

About 5500 B.C. the region was inhabited by Indo-European people, who in turn gave way to Thracian tribes. Today’s Romanians are in part descended from the Getae, a Thracian tribe that lived north of the Danube River. During the Bronze Age (about 2200 to 1200 B.C.), these Thraco-Getian tribes engaged in agriculture, stock raising, and trade with inhabitants of the Aegean Sea coast.

During his time politics, economy and culture had a progressive evolution and there were associated to the King’s vocation and intelligence skills of leadership. Key words: King Ferdinand, the Union, duty, daily life, social and economic progress Regele Ferdinand I al României s-a născut la 24 august 1865 la Sigmaringen, iar primele instrucţiuni le-a primit în familie de la profesorul Gröbels, urmând apoi gimnaziul din Düsseldorf.

Catina -Alina Preda (Adjunct lecturer at the Dept. of Languages, Literature & Culture of the Black Sea Countries, Democritus University of Thrace) Literatura română la începutul secolului al XX-lea The Romanian Literature at the beginning of the 20th century Any scientific research upon any writer's work must start by establishing the spatial and temporal 'coordinates' in which the analysed phenomenon appears and de- velops. In this way, we think that a part of the marvelous work of Istratti can be better interpreted within the Romanian literature of the 20th century. This is why we intend to summarise the most significant aspects of the Romanian world of literature, as these are elements indispensable to our study. At the beginning of the 20th century, the debate between Maiorescu and Gherea is well known. It apparently stopped but it was re-ignited by some writers, out of habit, thus making the literary world of that period be dynamic. The need of a new direction for the Romanian literature was best perceived by Mihail Kogalniceanu, who actually succeeded in re-uniting some of the most signifi- cant authors of the time within the “Dacia literara” magazine. This explains the creation of a representative part of the literature, made up of writers who, even though not completely mature, proved themselves capable of un- derstanding their position and role under the new socio-cultural conditions that they had to reflect in one way or another. Not only did they manage to create a synthesis of the period of 1848, but they also achieved the gradual conquest of the socio-political fields and, eventually of the literary one.
