ROBERT ATHERHOLTjoined the Houston Symphony as Principal Obo­ ist in 1984. Prior to his appointment to the Houston Symphony, Mr. Atherholt was a member of the Chamber Orchestra and served as Principal Oboist ofthe New Jersey Symphony. During his years in New York, he was a member ofthe esteemed Orchestra ofSt. Lukes and was Principal Oboist of the Orchestra ofNew York. A talented chamber musician, Mr. Atherholt is frequently featured on the concerts of the Houston Symphonys Mostly Mozart Festival and on the INNOVA concerts. He performed with Da Camera in the last two seasons and also participates in the Marlboro Festival. A graduate of the Juilliard School, Mr. Atherholt is Associate Professor of Oboe at The Shepherd School ofMusic. JANET RARICK plays oboe and English horn for the Houston Grand Opera Orchestra and the Houston Ballet Orchestra. She was the principal oboist ofthe Texas Chamber Orchestra and has been an active recitalist in Houston since 1981. Currently on the faculty ofThe Shepherd School of Music, Ms. Rarick has performed at various summer music festivals in the U.S., including the Marlboro, Kapalua, and Grand Teton Music festivals. BENJAMIN KAMINS is currently in his fourteenth season as principal bassoonist of the Houston Symphony. Previously he was associate principal bassoonist of the Minnesota Orchestra. He has been a participant at numer­ ous festivals including Marlboro, Tanglewood, Claremont, and Blossom, as well as a faculty member of the Grand Teton Orchestral Seminar. An avid chamber music lover, Mr. Kamins was a founding member of the Aurora and the Epicurean Wind Quintets. He has toured with the Clarion Wind Quintet and Music From Marlboro and is also a performer with Da Camera. In addi­ tion to being Associate Professor ofBassoon at The Shepherd School ofMusic, he has been on the faculties ofthe University ofHouston and St. Olaf College. CHRISTINA EDELEN, harpsichordist, is a new resident ofHouston. She has performed throughout the U. S. and northern Europe as a soloist and as a member of The Westport Ensemble. Performances have taken her to many places including the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival and the Berkeley Early Music Festival. A graduate ofIndiana University's Early Music Insti­ tute, Ms. Edelen earned degrees in harpsichord and performance as i well as being awarded a Performer's Certificate. She went on to study under Bob van Aspera at the Royal Conservatory in den Haag, Holland. Ms. Edelen is currently on the faculty at Baylor University as Lecturer in harpsichord. ERIC HALEN, violinist, holds a Master's degree from the University of Illinois, where he also continued work on a doctoral degree. Currently, he performs with the Houston Symphony as Assistant Concertmaster. Prior to joining the Houston Symphony, Mr. HaZen was Concertmaster of the Texas Chamber Orchestra and Artist Teacher of Violin at Texas Christian Univer­ sity. He has been a frequent performer with Da Camera and has appeared as a soloist with the St. Louis Symphony and the Houston Symphony. TIMOTHY PITTS, double bassist, graduated with distinction from the New England Conservatory of Music where his teachers were Lawrence Wolfe and Edwin Barker. In 1979 he was awarded a Leonard Bernstein Fel­ lowship to Tanglewood, and, while there, was recipient ofthe Gustav Golden Award. Mr. Pitts has held the position ofprincipal bass with the Boston "Pops" Esplanade Orchestra as well as with the Handel and Haydn Society. He has appeared as a guest artist with the Boston Music a Viva, the M. L T. Chamber Players, the Amabile Quartet, and the Cleveland Octet, and he has collaborated with such artists as Arnold Steinhardt, Laurence Lesser, Heinz Holliger, and on numerous occasions with the Vermeer Quartet. Mr. Pitts was a member ofthe Cleveland Orchestra and on the faculty ofthe Oberlin Con­ servatory until 1992 when he accepted the new positions ofprincipal bass with the Houston Symphony and Associate Professor of Double Bass at The Shepherd School of Music. Active as a soloist and recitalist, Mr. Pitts has most recently performed with the Savannah Symphony and the Midwest Bass Symposium in addition to the Bay Chamber Concerts and the Skaneateles Music Festivals.
