Prime Cattle to 219ppk and £1548 Barren Cows & Cull Bulls to 139ppk and £1226

As ever any well bred and fed prime cattle sold to a premium on but with a market full of mainly second quality inferior types on Monday averages do look low! Prime topped at 219ppk for an outstanding 634kg Blonde steer from Bottor Rock Farms of which realised a decent £1385 followed by fine Bazadaise bred bullocks off the same farm which ran to 213ppk and £1415. Top total priced prime cattle came from Graham Tancock, Broadclyst with a couple of super 750kg plus Hereford steers that sold to 200ppk and a huge £1548 whilst a 636kg British Blue steer reached 203ppk and £1287 for Jeff Harvey of Hennock and a 570kg Blonde bullock also drew 203ppk for Adrian Bowden of Drewsteignton. A strong 718kg Aberdeen Angus barren cow topped that section at 139ppk and £994 for Martin and David Sampson of who also sold a 764kg South cow for £121ppk and £920. Further South Devon cows included one from Helen Havill of Trusham which saw highest price realised at £1073 (914kg x 118ppk) whilst smart ones made 126ppk for David and Shirley Mudge of Hexworthy and a neat 540kg one saw 124ppk for Brittan and Co of South Brent. A strong 640kg Limousin cow from Jeff Harvey eased to 135ppk with Holstein Friesians making 116ppk and £873 for Ed Johns of Brampford Speke and 115ppk for Steve Loud of Colyton. A grand 1044kg Aberdeen Angus cull bull from David Heath of Sherford reached 118ppk and a massive £1226.

691 PRIME LAMBS Twice the number of lambs at 1051 were just a few pence less overall on the week but the best fleshed lambs were still keenly contested and unchanged. Top money of £128.50 went to a single 61kg lamb from MG Curtis of Morchard Bishop whilst superb 49kg Beltex crosses from David Pratt & family of Huntsham rose to £115.50 or a sale topping 236ppk and they had another pen of 50kg lambs make £112. At £115 was a pair from Helen Wills of Denbury followed by a smart run from DJ Persey Top Average No’s £’s Per £’s Per of Broadhembury with 50kgs at £110, 48kgs at £109.20 and 47kgs at Weight P.P.K P.P.K Fwd Head Head £100.20 whilst the best pen of 47kgs came from Steve Harris of Littlehempston at £104.50.
