Brinn Labs is expanding the Museum’s hands-on learning mission to the entire community, and the Maker Initiatives have made us a national leader in maker education. 2 FIELD TRIPS (K3-4TH GRADE)

All field trips include an opportunity for children to explore the Museum’s educational exhibits and activities based on their age, interests and developmental abilities. Museum exhibits and programs reflect national and state academic standards, Common Core Standards, developmental milestones recognized by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, Next Generation Science Standards, and Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards.

Science CITY: Curiosity Required is part warehouse, part superstore, part clubhouse and part laboratory. Filled with activity stations and interactive media, the exhibit presents learning opportunities that highlight the importance of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education. Word Headquarters Discover our “communications company” where employees are hard at play cranking out the building blocks of literacy – print recognition, narrative, language skills, vocabulary and more. Please contact the Museum a minimum of three weeks in advance to make your reservation. Your visit is not officially reserved until you have received confirmation from the Museum, after the Museum has received a completed confirmation form and payment in full, both due at least three weeks in advance of your visit. Unregistered groups arriving at the Museum will be charged based on the number of children in their group, and will be assessed a $20 late-registration fee. The Museum reserves the right to cancel field trips that have not fully registered in advance. There is a requirement of one adult chaperone (18 years or older; identification may be required) for every five children. This includes teachers, teacher aides, and parents. $15-$25 per student Brinn Labs Field Trips are available in three-hour blocks in the morning or afternoon, and include a tour of our makerspace and exhibit fabrication shop, and design and build activities. Making – or project-based learning – is changing how students learn, how educators teach, and how schools and communities prepare children and young people for living, working and learning in the future. Our Maker Initiatives include: • Brinn Labs, the Museum’s off-site makerspace • The Be A Maker space at the Betty Brinn Museum • Be A Maker field trip programs for grades K3-4th, and extensive community outreach programming that bring maker education to high-needs neighborhoods • Designation in 2017 as a Google Making Spaces Hub institution. Making Spaces is a nationwide effort to develop a sustainable model for integrating making into schools, with a museum, library or school district serving as a partner to provide expertise and support. There are 15 hubs across the country, each working with 5-10 schools to help them develop and launch their approach to maker education. • The Be A Maker Teacher Studio, a year-round professional development resource for K3-12th grade teachers, administrators and others.
