Scope and Contents The Fielder Sheet Music Collection represents the fruit of the collecting labors of William R. and Louise Fielder. The collection consists of over 2,532 individual pieces of sheet music, sheet music lithographs, and music-related broadsides from the United States in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Accompanying the sheet music are eighty files of correspondence, ephemera, and photocopies of the collection. The collection is arranged into 43 series. Every effort has been made to preserve the provenance of the collection's series which Mr. and Mrs. Fielder utilized during their years of collecting. The series are arranged by subject, by lithographic images, by geographical region, and by the era of origin. Series 43 consists of a later accession; material here was not interfiled with the first sequence of series. Within the individual series, individual pieces were not sequentially arranged. Series titles are not necessarily fully representative of their contents. The collection's strengths lie in several areas. Among these are the collections of imprints dating before 1840, the 19th century imprints from the northeastern United States, and the mid-19th century imprints from California and Hawaii. Of particular note in this collection are the imprints of war-related themes, which scan American history from the arrival of General LaFayette, to Confederate imprints printed during the Civil War and continuing through the first and second World Wars. Of equal importance is the representation of daily life in the 19th century and the extensive collection of early-American lithography which this collection contains. The finding aid for the Fielder Sheet Music Collection documents most available information about the individual pieces of sheet music. To enable the researcher easier access to the collection, the finding aid can be searched by title, composer, arranger, performer, lithographer, by city of origin and publishing house, as well as by date of origin. The only one God gave me, My one and only joy, My life and love were centered on My one and only boy. I saw him in his infant days Grow up from year to year, That he would some day be a man I never had a fear. His mother watched his every step, 'Twas our united joy To think that he might be one day My one and only boy. When war broke out he buckled on His sword, and said, "Good-bye. For I must do my duty, Dad; Tell Mother not to cry, Tell her that I'll come back again." What happiness and joy! But no, he died for Liberty, My one and only boy.

IN SUMMARY OF TALLULAH 103 APPENDIX 114 BIBLIOGRAPHY. 129 CHAPTER I THE BEGINNING OF SUCCESS Tallulah Bankhead's family tree was filled with ancestors who had served their country; but none, with the exception of Tallulah, had served in the theatre. Both her grandfather and her mother's grandfather were wealthy Alabamians. The common belief was that Tallulah received much of her acting talent from her father, but accounts of her mother1s younger days show proof that both of her parents were vivacious and talented. A stranger once told Tallulah, "Your mother was the most beautiful thing that ever lived. Many people have said you get your acting talent from your father, but I disagree. I was at school with Ada Eugenia and I knew Will well. Did you know that she could faint on 1 cue?11 Tallulahfs mother possessed grace and beauty and was quite flamboyant. She loved beautiful clothes and enjoyed creating a ruckus in her own Southern world.* Indeed, Tallulah inherited her mother's joy in turning social taboos upside down.

Nevertheless, the French did not take effective control of their foothold on this continent until 7^ years later when Samuel de Champlain founded the settlement of Quebec in 1608, at the foot of Cape Diamond on the St. Laurence River. At first, the settlement was conceived of as a trading post for the lucrative fur trade, but two difficul ties soon becam,e apparent—problems that have plagued French Canada to the present day—the difficulty of comirunication across trackless forests and m.ountainous terrain and the rigors of the Great Canadian Winter.

  • Klondike Solitaire Solvability
Klondike Solitaire Solvability Mikko Voima BACHELOR’S THESIS April 2021 Degree Programme in Business Information Systems Option of Game Development ABSTRACT Tampereen ammattikorkeakoulu Tampere University of Applied Sciences Degree Programme in Business Information Systems Option of Game Development VOIMA, MIKKO: Klondike Solitaire Solvability Bachelor's thesis 32 pages, of which appendices 1 page June 2021 Klondike solitaire remains one of the most popular single-player card games, but the exact odds of winning were discovered as late as 2019. The objective of this thesis was to study Klondike solitaire solvability from the game design point of view. The purpose of this thesis was to develop a solitaire prototype and use it as a testbed to study the solvability of Klondike. The theoretical section explores the card game literature and the academic studies on the solvability of Klondike solitaire. Furthermore, Klondike solitaire rule variations and the game mechanics are analysed. In the practical section a Klondike game prototype was developed using Unity game engine. A new fast recursive method was developed which can detect 2.24% of random card configurations as unsolvable without simulating any moves. The study indicates that determining the solvability of Klondike is a computationally complex NP-complete problem. Earlier studies proved empirically that approximately 82% of the card configurations are solvable. The method developed in this thesis could detect over 12% of the unsolvable card configurations without making any moves. The method can be used to narrow the search space of brute-force searches and applied to other problems. Analytical research on Klondike solvability is called for because the optimal strategy is still not known.
