Latin Grammy-winning artist Rosalía has been a rising star in the last few year. Coming from a Flamenco background, she has reveled the fusion with R&B and pop music, and she has even jumped into the big screen in Almodovar’s latest movie, Dolor y gloria, sharing a scene with Penélope Cruz. She is now embarking on her first North American solo tour of North America, which will end in Toronto. Her Gold-certified album El Mal Querer, released on November 2, has not only topped the sales and streaming charts in the first week upon release in Spain, but it has also become the most listened-to album on Spotify Spain in the first 24 hours and in its first week. In addition to being a sales phenomenon, El Mal Querer is one of the best albums of the year according to the international press: Sixth best album of the year for the NY Times and KCRW, best Latin album according to NPR in the U.S. and Noisey / Vice. Di Mi Nombre, the last song released before the album, reached number one on the Spanish singles chart. Rosalía thus became the first Spanish artist to have a triple #1 during the same week on the album sales chart, album streaming charts and singles sales chart. Rosalía is the first Latin singer to be included in the list of ten nominees for the prestigious BBC Sound of 2019 (A list made by British critics and artists, aiming to anticipate who will be next year’s best artist). Este disco ha resultado ser un producto interesante más allá de lo puramente musical y comercial, destacando en la estética, elementos audiovisuales y simbología empleada. Destaca un factor decisivo en la creación del álbum El mal querer, que es la clara inspiración que ha tomado la cantante Rosalía de Flamenca, una obra literaria occitana, de autoría anónima y que data del siglo XIII. No obstante, pese a ser una novela medieval, Rosalía ha visto la actualidad de la historia y de la heroína, y ha sabido llevarla al mundo de hoy en día, un mundo en el que las relaciones interpersonales, la toxicidad que puede haber en estas y la figura de la mujer no han cambiado tanto. De esta forma, la historia del medievo ha servido para dar estructura al álbum y conformar un hilo narrativo que se desarrolla de manera fragmentaria desde la primera canción hasta la última. Asimismo, la acción contada se lleva a cabo también en el ámbito audiovisual, en el que la fusión de elementos del pasado y la cultura actual se hace efectiva y visible. L'artista ha llançat aquest dimecres F*cking Money Man, un vídeo format per dues cançons: Milionària i Dio$ No$ Libre Del Dinero, la primera de les quals és en català. Tot fa pensar que, en poques hores, entrarà a la llista de cançons més escoltades en català. Rosalía, que acaba de tornar del festival Glastonbury, ha estat recentment cap de cartell del Primavera Sound al costat d'artistes com J Balvin i Tame Impala.
