Volume 9, Issue 3 SONNENSCHEIN REGION PORSCHE CLUB OF AMERICA June 2006 Inside Zeitschrift NOTES FROM PETE PROPOSED CALENDER WORDS FROM CHRIS? TRACK TIME WITH JIM NEW BOXSTER S PORSCHE RACING Zeitschrift Craig Valenti sent me photos of this new 2007 Porsche 997 Turbo. This is the newest model of the 911 heritage with more horsepower and torque than the previous model. The 480 bhp and 457 lbs of torque are created by new Vari- able Turbo Geometry and the VarioCam Plus engine. The Variable Turbo is the newest technology to be included which allows the air flow for the turbo to be optimized by changing the angle of the turbo blades. This ability will allow the turbo to spin up more quickly and also provide more boost. Another new feature for this car is the new Por- sche Active Suspension Management system (PASM). The PASM system will allow the 997 to have a soft ride feel when driving around town and on long trips, and when you reach the track you simply touch a button and the cars suspension transforms into a stiff race car. The new wider body now covers the wider tires and also incorporates an improved air intake system for the intercooler. Now having seen and read about this in the Excellence magazine I wondered what it would be like to drive. When Craig sent me the photos I promptly sent him an email reply asking when I could take a test drive. After all I wanted to do a respectable article. His reply was Spring 2007, when the first one arrives that has not been pre-sold.

Porsche is presenting two cars that could hardly be more different: the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS and the concept car Mission E Cross Turismo. A high-performance sports car alongside an electrically driven cross utility vehicle. A high-revving six-cylinder aspirated engine alongside two perma- nent magnet synchronous motors. Traditional combustion-engine expertise advanced time and again for decades alongside new, groundbreaking E-Performance. Both have their allure. Both have their place. This is evident immediately if you contemplate the roughly seven billion people alive today who use around 1.25 billion vehicles—and that’s not counting bicycles, trains or airplanes. At present, only a fraction of these are electrically driven. This is the reality of today’s road traffic, a reality that will in many regions likely persist throughout the coming decades. In other words, there are many places on Earth where the subject of electro-mobility is on the back burner. Instead, there’s far greater interest in vehicles that are robust, fuel-efficient and powerful.

  • Motorsport Pistons and Cylinders Kits 01
01 Motorsport Pistons and Cylinders Kits MAHLE’s relationship with Porsche dates back to Porsche’s beginning. Together we have developed some of the best competition and sports car engines available throughout the last nine decades. MAHLE Motorsports North America has taken the extensive experience gained from its relationship with Porsche to develop a series of performance and racing piston and cylinder kits. These kits were designed for high performance applications and are modern adaptations of the original or aftermarket kits; therefore there may be visual differences that are intentional and beneficial to the performance, durability and longevity of the components. PP98-013 Slipper Skirt PP80-001 Forging Design The pistons are machined from forgings with narrower and shorter skirts to reduce weight and friction. They are then dual coated, with Phosphate and MAHLE’s proprietary Grafal® skirt coating. The phosphate is a dry film lubricant designed to help protect the pin bores from galling and ring grooves from micro-welding. The Grafal® anti-friction skirt coating is designed to reduce drag, wear and noise. The kits are supplied with modern ring sets made from stronger more durable materials that are dimensionally narrower and shorter to be more conformable providing more consistent contact with the cylinders resulting in increased sealing and oil control. 02 Motorsport Air-Cooled Cylinders PC84-001 PC98-001 PC102-001 / 002 The cylinders included in Motorsports air-cooled kits are produced and machined to original equipment tolerances, designed to provide increased performance, durability and longevity. Some applications are available as either a slip-in or machine-in design.

  • Press Release
PRESS RELEASE MODENA, ITALY - June 2018 ARES DESIGN Porsche 964 Targa The classic car market has never been more buoyant yet how many of these wonderful masterpieces of yesteryear are still driven, or driven in a manner that their makers originally intended? For some owners these machines are seen merely as investments while others like the concept of driving a classic car but the experience can be a let down. Concerns about reliability, recalcitrant transmissions, erratic air conditioning and a lack of the creature comforts and the connectivity we all take for granted these days see many a classic car sit gathering dust rather than being driven. And it’s with this in mind that ARES DESIGN has unleashed its stunning reimagining of the classic Porsche 964. The car in question is a 1991 Carrera 2 Targa and while a casual glance might not give the game away, under its stunning bodywork and inside its cockpit it tells a different story – this is a 964 with a modern twist thanks to it incorporating finely-honed components from a more contemporary Porsche, the 997 Carrera. The recreation of this stunning 964 commenced with a complete strip down of the car to a bare shell and while the rigours of 27 year’s-worth of use hadn’t taken too much of a toll on the Targa any rust was cut out prior to the shell being acid-dipped and repairs being made before the entire shell was e-coated. Once ARES had a perfect shell it was time to work out the precise nature of the conversion.
