Bába Abstract: The authors evaluated the samples collected by Marninus De Smit in 1999 at the collection site of Katavothres, on the isle of Kefalinia, Greece. Key-words: Katavothers, Greece, Marin mollusc fauna Material and methods Sample collections were carried out in a southern bay of the isle of Kefalinia, on the coast of Katavothres (09.06.1999.) For the determination of the order of families we used Poppe, G. T.–Gotto, Y. (1991–1993) Vol. I-II. For the identification of species we gave preference to the following publications: Nordsieik, F. (1968, 1969, 1972) Poppe, G. T.–Gotto, Y. (1991, 1993), D’ Angeló–Gargiullo, S. (1978) and also Ghisotti, F.–Melone, G. (1971, 1972, 1975) Results The collections yielded species from Scaphopoda, Lamellibranchiata and Gastropoda class- es. Altogether 7697 individuals belonging to 188 species were collected. (Scaphopoda: 1 family 1 species, Lamellibranchiata: 30 families 90 species 3811 specimen, Gastropoda: 42 families 188 species 7697 specimen). From the Bivalvia the Musculus laevigatus is a cir- cumpolar, the Hiatellidae: Hiatella arctica is a boreal circumpolar species. From the Gastropoda the Trochidae: Clanculus striatus, Phasianellidae: Tricolia miniata are known as belonging to the Southern Mediterranean. Most probably they spread due shipping. From most of the species encountered 1-40 individuals were found. More than 100 indi- viduals were collected from the species below: Jujubinus striatus, Gibbula philberti, Truncatella subcylindrica, Alvania consociella, Bittium latreilli, Bittium reticulatum, Cerithium alucaster, Gibberula miliaria, Granulina clandestina. Summary From the alluvial deposits on an island near Greece 11 508 individuals from 279 species of 72 families from 3 orders were encountered. -

Despite the recognized importance of these habitats, they have been scantly studied and their distribution is mostly unknown. This study reports the new finding of E. verrucosa forests in the Mediterranean Sea, and the updated distribution of this species that has been considered rare in the basin. In particular, one site off Sanremo (Ligurian Sea) was characterized by a monospecific population of E. verrucosa with 2.3 0.2 colonies m 2. By combining ± − new records, literature, and citizen science data, the species is believed to be widespread in the basin with few or isolated colonies, and 19 E. verrucosa forests were identified. The overall associated community showed how these coral forests are essential for species of conservation interest, as well as for species of high commercial value. For this reason, proper protection and management strategies are necessary. Studi costieri - 2006 - 12: Il Quaternario della Toscana costiera Il Quaternario della Toscana costiera Giovanni Boschian 1 , Alessandro Bossio 2, Barbara Dall’Antonia 2, Renzo Mazzanti 3 1 - 2 - 3 - Riassunto Questo saggio presenta una rassegna delle conoscenze acquisite sul Quaternario della Toscana Costiera, a partire dal 1984, anno in cui fu pubblicata su questo tema la monografia di Mazzanti. Nello studio dell’Olocene ci siamo limitati alla situazione presente in Età Romana, non tanto perché considerata priva di interventi antropici, bensì in quanto la più vicina nel tempo ad uno stato del territorio non influenzato da questi ultimi. Particolare attenzione è stata posta alla precisazione dei riferimenti cronologici dei livelli delle successioni stratigrafiche marine, datati secondo i moderni criteri di biozonazione basata principalmente sulle associ- azioni a Foraminiferi planctonici ed a Nannoplancton calcareo. D’altra parte non è stato trascurato il richi- amo a fossili di altri gruppi sistematici e loro associazioni di particolare significato stratigrafico (cronologi- co e/o paleoambientale) sia per le successioni marine, sia per le continentali, né ovviamente sono state trascurate le informazioni offerte dalle determinazioni radiometriche di età. Per agevolare la lettura di questo complesso riassunto, consigliamo di consultare i riferimenti offerti nella Figura 4. Un primo ciclo sedimentario, presente solo nel Valdarno Inferiore e nel Bacino di Castiglioncello – S. For this purpose, the material collected from the area between the years 2005 and 2009, within the framework of different projects, was investigated. The investigation of the material taken from various biotopes ranging at depths between 0 and 100 m resulted in identification of 286 mollusc species and 27542 specimens belonging to them. Among the encountered species, Vitreolina cf. perminima (Jeffreys, 1883) is new record for the Turkish molluscan fauna and 18 species are being new records for the Turkish Levantine coast. A checklist of Iskenderun mollusc fauna is given based on the present study and the studies carried out beforehand, and a total of 424 moluscan species are known to be distributed in Iskenderun Bay. References . 104 Revision der Tonnoidea (Caenogastropoda, Gastropoda) aus dem Miozän der Paratethys und paläobiogeographische Folgerungen Zusammenfassung Die im Miozän der Paratethys vertretenen Gastropoden der Überfamilie Tonnoidea werden beschrieben und diskutiert. Insgesamt können 24 Arten nachgewiesen werden. Tonnoidea weisen generell eine ungewöhnliche weite geographische und stratigraphische Verbreitung auf, wie sie bei anderen Gastropoden unbekannt ist. Dementsprechend sind die paratethyalen Arten meist auch in der mediterranen und der atlantischen Bioprovinz vertreten. Einige Arten treten zuerst im mittleren Miozän der Paratethys auf. Insgesamt dokumentiert die Verteilung der tonnoiden Gastropoden in der Parate- thys einen starken klimatischen Einfluss. -

Many people were involved in this journey, but key characters are three. Luca Marini, director of “Secche di Tor Paterno” Marine Protected Area, shared the project idea of field research on molluscs and trusted me in accomplishing the task. Without his active support in finding funds for the field activities this project would have not started. It is no exaggeration saying I would not have even thought of entering the PhD without him. Bruno Sabelli, my PhD advisor, is another person who trusted me above reasonable expectations. Witness of my childhood love for shells, he has become witness of my metamorphosis to a researcher. Last, but not least, Manuela, my wife, shared my objectives and supported me every single day despite the family challenges we had to face. Many more people helped profusely. I sincerely hope not to forget anyone. Marco Oliverio, Sabrina Macchioni, Letizia Argenti and Roberto Maltini were great SCUBA diving buddies during field activities. Species were classified according to their establishment status (‘Questionable’, ‘Casual’, ‘Established’, ‘Invasive’) and origin (‘Alien’, ‘Range expansion’, ‘Cryptogenic’). A total of 31 spe- cies were added to the inventory, while 6 species have been removed, bringing the total number of species to 73. Of these, 66 are considered to be aliens (or putative aliens but with uncertain origin) with the remaining 7 resulting from range expansion. Six records are considered to be questionable and hence unverified. For verified records, the dominant taxonomic groups are Mollusca (represented by 21 species) and Actinopterygii (15 species), followed by Crustacea (8 species) and Rhodophyta (7 species). Eight of these species (aliens: Caulerpa cylindracea, Lophocladia lallemandi, Womersleyella setacea, Brachidontes pharaonis, Percnon gibbesi, Fistularia commersonii, Siganus luridus; range extender: Sphoeroides pachygaster) are considered to be invasive. The introduction pathway for 30 species is unknown.
