  • The Zrinski-Frankopan Conspiracy As a National Sacrificial Narrative
View metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk brought to you by CORE provided by Open Repository of the University of Zagreb Faculty of... FNS 2018; 4(1): 146–157 Davor Dukić* The Zrinski-Frankopan conspiracy as a national sacrificial narrative https://doi.org/10.1515/fns-2018-0013 The topic of this paper concerns the representations of the Zrinski-Frankopan (Zriny Frangipani) Conspiracy in five Croatian dramas, written and/or performed between 1900 and 2010, in the four different political constellations: in the late Habsburg Monarchy, in the early monarchist Yugoslavia, i. e. in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, in the Socialist Yugoslavia and finally in the modern independent Croatian state. The Zrinski-Frankopan Conspiracy is a sacrificial narrative par excellence in the Croatian culture as literary sources often directly refer the Conspiracy’s actors as martyrs. Therefore this constitutes an interesting subject for this thematic section. The basic methodological problem in this analysis is how to interpret a single literary text as a concretization of a historical myth which in itself represents a non-existent, intuitive, fluid construct. A critical reconstruction of a historical myth and/or a meta-narrative is an unrewarding, if not futile task, so it is there- fore more fruitful to focus on its potential ruptures which undermine its semantic coherence. These ruptures can represent traumatic or at least uneasy loci in the historical meta-narratives, which makes them prone to interpretation. The selected text analyzed here can be contextualized in three different frameworks of the national narration: firstly, in the historical myth about the Conspiracy, i.

  • Rostra /2014 Motivi Braće Zrinski Za Pristupanje Uroti
Nikola VII. i Petar IV.

It develops a novel framework that calls both primordialist and modernist approaches to nationalism and national identity into question before applying that framework to Croatia. In doing so it not only provides a new way of thinking about how national identity is formed and why it is so important but also closely examines 1990s Croatia in a unique way. An explanation of how Croatian national identity was formed in an abstract way by a historical narrative that traces centuries of yearning for a national state is given. The book goes on to show how the government, opposition parties, dissident intellectuals and diaspora change change groups offered alternative accounts of this narrative in order to The formation legitimise contemporary political programmes based on different visions of national identity. It then looks at how these debates were in manifested in social activities as diverse as football and religion, in of Croatian economics and language. ✭ This volume marks an important contribution to both the way we national identity bellamy study nationalism and national identity and our understanding of post-Yugoslav politics and society. Latentna turska opasnost prisiljava, me đutim.

  • Luščić – Producing the New Urbanity
Europan Hrvatska Productive City Europan 15 Europan 15 Karlovac (HR) LUŠČIĆ – PRODUCING THE NEW URBANITY Urban transformation of the former military barracks „Luščić“ Site brief Europan Hrvatska Dobrodošli! Welcome! Dear participants, we would like to welcome you and thank you for choosing the location in Croatia for your participation in the EUROPAN 15 competition. This year, our national organization has offered the location of the former barracks in the city of Karlovac for considering the possibilities of urban transformation in the context of the main competition topic - Productive city. Karlovac is the ninth largest city in Croatia, located at the place where the lowland meets the highlands, on an important traffic route and a strategic point that determined its formation exactly 440 years ago. The city is proud of its four rivers, military and industrial heritage, numerous parks and green spaces that contribute to the image of a pleasant city. As a powerful industrial city, Karlovac has a tradition of a productive city, and its strategic position required the presence of a numerous military facilities. This military history lasted until recently, and the wounds from the war in the early 1990s are still fresh. Former military locations within the urban fabric are now vacated and seeking new programmes. Karlovac shares the problems of other Croatian cities, the most notable of which are unfavourable demographic trends, economic crisis and emigration of young and educated people. However, Karlovac also shares the optimism inspired by Croatia’s accession to the European Union and the possibilities that this integration offers. One of the great spatial possibilities for the future development of Karlovac is the area of the abandoned “Luščić” barracks, located not far from the city centre and within the main urban axis that has been planned as the main axis of the spatial development of the city since the middle of the last century.
