Klasse INHALT Seit mehr als tausend Jahren leben Maori in Whangara, einer Siedlung an der Ostküste Neuseelands. Ihr Ursprungsmythos erzählt von Paikea, der einst auf einem Wal reitend die Küste erreichte. Paikea wurde das Oberhaupt der Maori von Whangara und ohne Unterbrechung gingen seitdem sein Name und sein Amt als Anführer auf den männlichen Erstgeborenen der nächsten Generation über. Bis heute werden die alten Traditionen in Whangara gepflegt. Der jetzige Träger des Paikea-Titels ist Großvater Koro, der sich besonders für die unveränderte Erhaltung der Bräuche einsetzt. Er ist überzeugt, dass Whangara untergeht, wenn die Verbindung zu den Ahnen nicht durch die althergebrachte Erbfolge weitergeführt wird. Doch die Nachfolge Koros ist unsicher, denn der Erbe des Amtes stirbt schon bei der Geburt. Nur die Zwillingsschwester des Babys überlebt und wird gegen den Willen des Großvaters Pai genannt. Aber Großvater Koro hält eisern an der Tradition fest. Für ihn ist es ausgeschlossen, dass ein Mädchen zum Oberhaupt Whangaras wird. Als Pai 12 Jahre alt ist, beginnt ihr Großvater unter den anderen Jungen des Volkes nach einem Erben zu suchen. Pai versucht alles, um ihrem geliebten Koro zu beweisen, dass sie genauso wie jeder Junge für den Titel des Paikea geeignet ist. Doch sie erfährt nur Ablehnung, wird vom Unterricht in den alten Bräuchen ausgeschlossen und schließlich glaubt der Großvater sogar, dass Pais Geburt für die Maori von Whangara Unglück bedeutet. -

-SEASON TWO- PRODUCTION BIOGRAPHIES SAM RAIMI (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) Sam Raimi has directed one the industry’s most successful film franchises ever—the blockbuster Spider-Man trilogy, which has grossed $2.5 billion at the global box office. All three films reside in the industry’s top 25 highest grossing titles of all time. In addition to the franchise’s commercial success, Spider-Man (2002) won that year’s People’s Choice Award as Favorite Motion Picture, earned a pair of Oscar® nominations (for VFX and Best Sound) and also collected two Grammy® nominations (for Best Score and Chad Kroeger’s song, “Hero”).
