Kreativitas Grup Ega Robot Di Bandung Jawa Barat Selonding Vol.16, No.2: September 2020 Jurnal Etnomusikologi KREATIVITAS GRUP EGA ROBOT DI BANDUNG JAWA BARAT Winorman Akbar Program Studi S-1 Etnomusikologi ISI Yogyakarta Email: [email protected] Abstrak Kreativitas Ega Robot Ethnic Percussion merupakan perkembangan kesenian tradisi sebagai pijakan untuk berkreativitas, dalam kreativitas yang dilakukan oleh Ega Robot Ethnic Percussion pada lagu Mojang Priangan ini berbeda dengan kelompok-kelompok musik lainnya dikarenakan hasil arransemen Ega Robot Ethnic Percussion merupakan campuran dua elemen musik yang berbeda, yaitu memadukan gamelan salendro dengan instrumen barat sebagai iringan tari jaipongan Mojang Priangan. Metode penilitian yang digunakan untuk membedah krativitas grup Ega Robo Ethnic Percussion menggunakan metode deskripsi analisis dengan pendekatan etnomusikologis. Hasil yang didapat dalam penelitian tersebut yaitu struktur pola lagu Mojang Priangan yang secara keseluruhan merupakan bentuk aransemen dan transformasi dari ragam pola tepak dan iringan dari berbagai kesenian tradisional di Jawa Barat, dengan menambahkan beberapa ragam tepak, perpaduan instrumen barat dan tradisi dengan karya Ega yang akhirnya menimbulkan suatu ciri khas akan grup Ega Robot Ethnic Percussion yang dapat menghasilkan ruang berkreativitas untuk seniman-seniman muda di kota Bandung dalam mengembangkan musik tradisional Sunda. Abstract Ega Robot Ethnic Percussion creativity is the development of traditional art as a foothold for creativity, in the creativity carried out by Ega Robot Ethnic Percussion on the Mojang Priangan song is different from other music groups because the results of the Ega Robot Ethnic Percussion are a mixture of two different musical elements, namely combining salendro gamelan with western instruments as accompaniment of Mojang Priangan jaipongan dance. The research method used to dissect the creativity of the Ega Robot Ethnic Percussion group uses the description analysis method with an ethnomusicological approach. The results obtained in this study are the structure of the Mojang Priangan song pattern which as a whole is a form of arrangement and transformation of various patterns of pat and accompaniment from various traditional arts in West Java, by adding a number of different types of pat, a blend of western instruments and traditions with Ega's work that ultimately raises a characteristic of the Ega Robot Ethnic Percussion group that can produce a creative space for young artists in the city of Bandung in developing traditional Sundanese music. Latar Belakang mengalami puncak kepopulerannya pada Jaipongan merupakan salah satu tahun 1980-an.     Cross-Gender Attempts by Indonesian Female Impersonator Dancer Didik Nini Thowok Madoka Fukuoka Graduate School of Human Sciences, Osaka University, Japan [email protected] ABSTRACT This article examines the creative stages of Didik Nini Thowok (1954‒), a female impersonator and cross-gender dancer based in Java, Indonesia. In addition, it discusses his endeavours of crossing gender boundaries by focusing on his use of costumes and masks, and analysing two significant works: Dwimuka Jepindo as an example of comedic cross-gender expression and Dewi Sarak Jodag as an example of serious cross-gender expression. The findings indicate three overall approaches to crossing gender boundaries: (1) surpassing femininity naturally expressed by female dancers; (2) mastering and presenting female characters by female impersonators and cross-gender dancers; and (3) breaking down the framework of gender itself. Signed: ______________________ Date: ________________________ 2 Abstract This thesis argues that performances of contemporary theatre in Indonesia are socially- engaged, actively creating, defining and challenging the socio-political environment, and that theatre practitioners are important members of a vibrant civil society who contribute and feel actively committed to democratic processes. Following an initial chapter about the history of modern theatre from the late 19th century until the fall of President Suharto in 1998, the four core chapters centre on four different aspects of contemporary Indonesian socio-politics: historical memory and trauma, violence and human rights, environmentalism, and social transition. Each of these chapters is preceded by an introduction about the wider historical and socio-political context of its respective discourse and is followed by an analysis of selected plays. Chapter 2 focuses on historical trauma and memory, and relates the work of two theatre artists, Papermoon Puppet Theatre and Agus Nur Amal (a.k.a. PM Toh), to processes seeking truth and reconciliation in Indonesia in the post-Suharto era. Chapter 3, on violence and human rights, discusses the works of Ratna Sarumpaet and B. Verry Handayani, with a specific focus on human trafficking, sexual exploitation, and labour migration. Chapter 4 discusses environmentalism on the contemporary stage. It investigates the nature of environmental art festivals in Indonesia, taking Teater Payung Hitam’s 2008 International Water Festival as an example.

The Palace of Karaton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat is the cultural heart of the city. From generation to generation, the Sultans of Yogyakarta are the traditional governors of the city and responsible for passing on art and culture heritage. The entire royal family is involved in preserving these art forms, and the troupe must perform with a member of the royal family present. The dances from Yogyakarta will be accompanied by gamelan music native to Java. Program Golek Menak Umarmaya Umarmadi Dance Masked Dance Fragment (Wayang Wong) “Klana Sewandana Gandrung” Bedhaya Sang Amurwabhumi About the forms: Golek Menak The golek menak is a contemporary example of the seminal influence exerted by the puppet theater on other Javanese performing arts. This dance was inspired by the stick–puppet theater (wayang golek), popular in the rural area of Yogyakarta. Using the three dimensional rod-puppets, it portrays episodes from a series of stories known as menak. Unlike the high-art wayang kulit (shadow puppets), it is a village entertainment, and it did not flourish at the court. As a dance drama, golek menak focuses on imitating this rod-puppet theater with amazing faithfulness. Human dancers realistically imitate the smallest details of puppet movement, right down to the stylized breathing of the puppets.

Whereas in most societies musi- cal genres are in the first place classified by social criteria, it is undeniable that also the technicalities of the music play a role: audiences hear the differences between, for instance, jaipongan and degung kawih perfor- mances. This is because these musics are produced in different ways, using different instruments, tone material, musical structure, etc. Alfred Gell made an important contribution to the anthropological study of art by pointing out that the production of art is a technological process. He mentions that there are ‘beautiful’ things, like beautiful women, beautiful horses and a beautiful sunset. However, art objects are made ‘beautiful’ by human beings and this requires technology. He criti- cizes sociologists like Pierre Bourdieu, who do not really look at an art object as a concrete product of human ingenuity, but only elaborately look at the represented symbolic meanings (Gell 1999:162). In contrast, Gell proposes that anthropologists should look at art as a ‘component of technology.’ We call something an object of art if it is the outcome of a technological process, the kind of processes in which artists are skilled.
