The Celebration of the Wedding of HRH Prince William of Wales & Miss Catherine Middleton Site Map 2 About the Event Today, two of St Andrews’ most famous recent graduates are due to be married in Westminster Abbey in London with the eyes of the world upon them. As the town in which they met and their relationship blossomed, we are delighted to be able to welcome you to our celebrations in honour of the Royal Couple, HRH Prince William of Wales and Miss Catherine Middleton. A variety of entertainment and activities await, building up towards the big moment at around 10:45am where the Royal Couple will be making their entrance into the Abbey for the ceremony itself (due to start at 11am). This will be shown live on the large outdoor screen situated in the main Quadrangle. The “Wedding Breakfast” will be served from 8am on the lower lawn from the marquee with a selection of hot and cold food/drink available. Food will also be on sale throughout the day from local vendors. After the ceremony, and the traditional ‘appearance at the balcony’ the entertainment on the main stage will pick up again, taking the party on to 4pm. The main purpose of the day, aside from having fun, is to raise money for the Royal Wedding Charitable Fund. The list of charities we will be collecting for appears later in the programme. Most of what you see today is provided for free, but we would encourage you to please give generously. The organising committee hope you enjoy this momentous occasion and we are sure you will join with us in extending our warmest wishes and heartfelt congratulations to “Wills & Kate” as they look forward to a long and happy life together. Over the course of the last 10 weeks, a dedicated group of individuals from many different aspects of St Andrews life have come together to put on today’s event. “The Wedding Breakfast” began as a small celebration for the community of St Andrew and has now grown beyond all recognition. Thanks to the dedication and motivation of the organisers, and with the support of others, it has become the largest community event in St Andrews for a generation. At the core of the event, however, is still the firm belief that this event is “by the community, for the community”. At this moment, we would like to pause to thank the groups involved as the organising committee, who have all put in a tremendous amount of work to make this event possible: The Royal Burgh of St Andrews Community Council – http://www.standrewscc.net/ The University of St Andrews – http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk The St Andrews Partnership – http://partnership.standrews.co.uk/ The University of St Andrews Students’ Association – http://www.yourunion.net The Byre Theatre of St Andrews – http://www.byretheatre.com Fife Council – http://www.fife.gov.uk Fife Constabulary – http://www.fife.police.uk/ 3 Programme of Events All Day 7:30am Doors Open 7:58am Opening Pipe Procession 8:00am Breakfast Begins 8:10am Entertainment Begins 9:30am Breakfast Winds Down/Food Vendors Begin 4:00pm Event Closes Entertainment 8:10am Madras College Pipe Band & Highland Dancers 8:28am A Capella Blend 8:35am Rock Highland 8:52am Blue Angels Dance Group 9:00am Scottish Country Dancing 9:10am Dazzle Youth 9:17am Amy Rayner 9:24am Byre Rhythm 9:31am Katherine Skene 9:38am Madras Community Dance Group 9:46am Canongate Primary Glee Club 9:53am Chinafan Mandarin Language Centre 10:00am Madras Community Dance Group (2) 10:07am Haydays Singers 10:14am Ethnic & Interpretive Dance Society 10:21am The St Andrews Gilbert & Sullivan Society 10:28am The St Leonard’s Newpark School Choir 10:35am Closing Speeches 10:37am The Cast of My Fair Lady – Exclusive Show Preview 10:45am Royal Wedding from London shown on the Big Screen 2:00pm The National Youth Brass Band of Scotland 3:00pm The Accidentals 3:10pm The Hummingbirds 3:20pm The Other Guys 3:30pm The Alleycats 3:40pm St Andrews Pipe Band 4 Programme of Events Get Involved! All our performers today are part of the local community, meeting, rehearsing and performing on a regular basis within the town. This event has provided us with the unique opportunity to bring all these talented groups and individuals together for the first time. Indeed, the theme of joining the community together in this way, fits nicely in with a marriage itself. If you have been particularly interested in any of the entertainment you have seen today, you can talk with any of our performers either during the day, or after the event and they always welcome new members. Special Historic Scotland Offer With This Programme Historic Scotland are delighted to be able to offer FREE ENTRY into the Castle and Cathedral Grounds (last entry 5pm) upon presentation of your “Wedding Breakfast Event Programme”. Historic Scotland would like to extend the acceptance of “tickets” to include Saturday 30th April and Sunday 1st May 2011. At the Castle – “tickets” will allow access to the exhibition in the Visitor’s Centre, entry to view the infamous Bottle Dungeon and the opportunity to explore the Countermine and Mine (medieval siege mines) At the Cathedral –“ticket holders” may visit the Carved Stone Museum which houses early- Christian and Medieval Carved Stones. Included in this collection is the St Andrews Sarcophagus- an 8th Century Pictish Sculpture. Tokens can also be obtained from the Cathedral Visitor Centre to allow access to St Rules Tower. Also, unaccompanied children under the age of 16 are not permitted entry to either site. 5 Charities Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton have created a charitable gift fund to help celebrate their wedding, focusing on assisting charities which support five causes chosen by the couple. These causes are close to their hearts and reflect the experiences, passions and values of their lives so far. Our Wedding Gift to the Royal Couple will be the proceeds raised at today’s event.
