During that time the Foundry did everything to support me at their most secure part of the harbour. They gave me all the privacy I wanted, Portland/Maine, 20.05.2018 but I knew that there is all the help available, if needed. Latitude 43º 39' N Many new friends and interesting people enriched my life, they made me feel very Longitude 070º 15' W welcome, integrated me into their community and showered me with their warm friendship. I had intended to slip out non-observed, but of course that's not possible. Even my dentist noticed our departure and sent me this lovely picture. Thanks a lot Dr. David, you were very patient with me and not too cruel in your dental practice. Farewell to Nova Scotia Showing our greetings to the lovely town of Lunenburg Nehaj was proudly flying the flag of Nova Scotia. We were able to find decent weather on our way towards Maine (USA) with a brief stop in Shelburne. After passing Cape Sable in vicious but favourable currents for another overnight trip across the Gulf of Maine it was my “Farewell to Nova Scotia”! I was humming the melody of this well known folk song... “Farewell to Nova Scotia, the sea-bound coast, For when I am far away on the briny Ocean, Tossed in the dark blue sea, will you heave a sigh for me?” All winter long a little devil in the back of my head kept on poking, demanding new adventures and some true blue water sailing. Nehaj and I had to make a serious decision. Being in good shipshape and well rested she joined the little devil's side and in the end I had to go along with both of them. Several friends had asked me if I might fall into an 'adventure-vacuum' or how I could possible do anything even more demanding and more exciting than the journey in 2017 up from Tasmania and through the Northwest Passage? As is my nature I wanted to keep quiet about it. Nehaj getting ready for sea in Lunenburg Harbour, May 2018 Only this time I didn't get away with it. After being the 'Anonymous' on the list of (Picture Dr. David M.) the participants of 'The Longue Route 2018' for nearly four months my 'outing' couldn't be delayed any longer. It seemed that half of France's sailors demanded to know my little secret. Nehaj and I had a great time in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. Travelling inevitably means saying 'good-bye' to good places and to good people, The Longue Route 2018 is the French 'Pilgrimage' for the 50th anniversary of the but this time I was especially touched by it. So please let me say 'Farewell' and famous Golden Globe Race 1968. In attitude and requirements it is pretty much 'Auf Wiedersehen', hoping to be back one day soon. the opposite to the commercially oriented British version which is happening in 4 parallel. See: www.longueroute2018.com © Susanne Huber-Curphey You might be amused to hear that I joined this group of the 'Longue Route' to keepBLAUWASSERBRIEF 076 away rather then joining in. After all 'buddy boating' is not my thing, but there will be about fifty other crazy single-handers (probably four women) roaming the NEHAJ one day at sea, 15.06.2018 Oceans of the world well into next year, half of them on non-electronic retro boats Latitude 42° 34' North and I'm afraid of collisions. Longitude 067° 57' West Of course there will be no records, no first achievements and in the 'Longue Hello to all, Route' there will be no winner.
