Christie Golden : Warcraft: Durotan: The Official Movie Prequel before purchasing it in order to gage whether or not it would be worth my time, and all praised Warcraft: Durotan: The Official Movie Prequel:

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. this is an excellent book. Golden is arguably the best of all ...By Monkey MamaI must give a warning first: if you are a lore buff, you will want to set aside everything you know about Warcraft while reading this. This is based off the movie universe, not the game universe. It is not canon. It is dramatically different. Golden spoke true in the book when she said, "she was a Lorekeeper, in a world where lore now meant nothing."That said, this is an excellent book. Golden is arguably the best of all the Warcraft/WoW authors. She provides dimension to characters and immerses you in their struggles. She shows that are not monsters to be despised. They are just trying to survive.6 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Movie universe, but definitely worth readingBy Jennifer L. ImparatoIt is important to go into reading this book knowing that it was written to set up for the movie, which is differs from the in-game lore/cannon. The story is basically recognizable, but there are things that will stick out as different or "wrong". Setting this aside as its own entity will allow complete enjoyment of the story that it is, and it is a good story. It tells the story of the Frostwolves, and their survival in Frostfire Ridge/Draenor despite the worsening conditions. You get to meet Garad, Durton's father, and get a glimpse of him as leader of the clan prior to his death and Durotan taking his place. The point at which this story ends sets up for where the movie will likely begin. This book is definitely worth the read, for both fans of existing warcraft lore and for those who are just finding out about the movie and may want to know a little more about the movie universe. The cool thing is that this book was written by the same author that wrote Rise of the Horde, the original game lore/cannon, and while it strays a bit from her original story, the characters are still recognizable and handled with the same care as they are in her original work.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. I loved this perspective more than the original loreBy Andrew RThis was an outstanding novel and an incredible new story. It is important to mention that it is not meant to be a retelling of current Warcraft lore, but a new story altogether. That being said, I loved this perspective more than the original lore. It includes many of the characters we know, but gives much more depth to the main characters in the novel, primarily members of the Frostwolf Clan. If you plan on seeing the Warcraft film, this book is a must because the movie will have differences that cannot be understood without the background provided in this book. The book itself was riveting and kept me on the edge of my seat. Once I started it, I read it in three sitting because I couldn't put it down. There is a tremendous amount of detail and building of the characters' personalities. I expected a large portion of this book to be huge battle scenes, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was much deeper than that. Overall, an excellent book that I will happily reread!
