The Edmonton Garrison Memorial Golf & Curling Club, formerly the Lancaster Park Golf & Curling Club, is forged with golf and curling tradition. The golf club was built in the early fifties by many Royal Canadian Air Forces personnel and the curling club started in the sixties at the Griesbach Curling Club. In 2013, we rebranded our facility in an effort to create a ‘living memorial’ experience for the military personnel posted here on base as well as the many off-base visitors that utilize our facility. Our mission is to create the best experience at our facility; whether it’s curling, golf, or a dining experience! As part of our team, you would display the following shared competencies: Client Service, Organizational Knowledge, Communication, Innovation, Teamwork and Leadership Under the direction of the Superintendent, the Greens Supervisor supervises the day-to-day work activities of maintenance, labour, grounds and other employees, including scheduling, assignment of daily tasks, and training of new employees. He/she ensures that work meets golf course maintenance standards and develops maintenance programs for golf course and related equipment. He/she also maintains greens, tee box areas, fairways, bunkers and rough areas and will determine the proper rate of pesticides, fertilizers and fungicides and apply as necessary. I pondered the subject for way too long and as the weeks I turned into months, I thought about possible options and formats. In my research into what I thought would be an easy matter, I found the following information on dedications: A dedication could be addressed to a parent, a sibling or other family member, a friend a supervisor or even a mascot. Ok, this was a start. A dedication could be formal or informal, and provide a reason. There is no one way to write a dedication. Darn, back to square one. So with no right answer, no fixed format and no further ahead, I came up with a couple dedications that seemed appropriate. If you want to see what I came up with, keep reading. Otherwise, skip this part and flip a few pages forward to the first “Log Tale”. On my first attempt, I came up with this: This book is dedicated to the thousands of serving logisticians who will be celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Canadian Armed Forces Logistics Branch on 1 February 2018. That seemed a little too vanilla and bland, so I came up with a second version: To all logisticians, past and present, who supported CAF operations, missions and exercises with honour.

The Good News About the Canadian Forces Canada Command Bad News
The good news about the Canadian Forces Canada Command bad news The good thing about a grim evaluation of Chief of Defence Staff General Rick Hillier’s plans to modernize the command of Canada’s military is that he asked for it. Otherwise, the news that the demands of Afghanistan are bleeding the Canadian Forces dry is disturbing given the numerous security threats facing Canada domestically and abroad. The bleak assessment came from three retired generals Gen. Hillier commissioned to assess Canada Command, created July 1, 2005, – in the words of the Canadian Forces – “to bring the best available military resources to bear on a crisis or threat, wherever it occurs, nation wide.” It was said that for the first time there would be a unified and integrated chain of command at the national and regional levels with the immediate authority to deploy navy, army and air force assets in joint responses to crises or threats. The key words in all of that are: “the best available military resources.” Skeptics rightly thought when Canada Command was announced that, if there were no available military resources, the new command structure would be no better able to respond to threats than the previous structure. For example, one of the biggest threats facing the Commander of Joint Task Force Pacific, whose command takes in the whole of British Columbia, is a catastrophic earthquake. There is a serious military resource problem in B.C. thanks to the short-sighted shutdown of CFB Chilliwack and the move of its 1 Combat Engineer Regiment to CFB Edmonton by Jean Chrétien’s Liberal government in the 1990s.

E-Circular May 4, 2017 Message from the Commander May is here! Will it be hot? Will it be cold? Wet? Dry? Who knows? The one thing we all know about living in Alberta is that you have to embrace what Mother Nature gives you. The trails and roads are snow free (finally) so it’s a good time to dig that bike out of the garage, give it a tune up, and head out for a ride. May is also host to Aboriginal Awareness week, a national effort to raise awareness of Indigenous peoples within Canada and the Public Service and honour the many Indigenous cultures in Canada, including Metis, Inuit and First Nations. The Edmonton Defence Aboriginal Advisory Group will be hosting an event as part of Aboriginal Awareness Week. Cultural displays and demonstrations with members from DND and the local communities will be part of this recognition of Canada’s rich aboriginal culture.
