[…] Shishkin seems poised on the brink of a major career, one we’ll watch with great interest.’ Gramophone, March 2020 Young Russian pianist Dmitry Shishkin is critically acclaimed by the international press for his creative approach to music, his individuality and his remarkable technique. In June 2019, he was awarded the Silver Medal at the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition and won First Prize (ex-aequo) at the 73rd Geneva International Music Competition the year before. Born in Chelyabinsk, Siberia, Shishkin demonstrated exceptional talent for the piano, giving his first solo recital at the age of three and his first concert with orchestra at the age of six. Three years later, he entered the prestigious Gnessin State Musical College for gifted children (class of Mikhail Khokhlov) and the Tchaikovsky Conservatory (class of Eliso Virsaladze), both in Moscow. He has recently completed his studies with Epifanio Comis at the Istituto Musicale Vincenzo Bellini in Catania, Sicily, and with Arie Vardi at the Musikhochschule Hannover. He also won numerous prizes in competitions such as in Bolzano (Third Prize in 2013), Rio de Janeiro (Second Prize in 2014), Chopin in Warsaw (Sixth Prize in 2015), Queen Elisabeth in Brussels (finalist), and the Top of the World Competition in Tromsø (First Prize in 2017). Dmitry Shishkin has collaborated with orchestras such as the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia ‘Svetlanov Orchestra’, Russian National Orchestra, Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra, Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, National Orchestra of Belgium, Staatskapelle Weimar and Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, under the baton of Valery Gergiev, Vasily Petrenko, Mikhail Pletnev, Vladimir Fedoseev and Marin Alsop. His concert schedule includes performances at festivals including Dubrovnik Summer, Bergen, Chopin and His Europe, Brescia Bergamo, and he has been invited to perform recitals worldwide (Paris, Munich, Geneva, Ljubljana, Fribourg, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Taipei, Hong Kong, Singapore and Abu Dhabi). In 2019/2020, he made his debut in Japan with Tokyo Symphony Orchestra performing in Tokyo, Iwate and Osaka, as well as in South Africa with concerts in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban. Highlights this coming season include recitals at Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, Düsseldorf Robert Schumann Saal, Hannover NDR Kleiner Saal, Paris La Scala, Lyon, Moscow Zaryade, St. Petersburg Mariinsky Concert Hall, Seoul Lotte Concert Hall and a tour of Australia, and as part of Festspiele Europäische Wochen Passau, Piano Loop Festival in Split, Città di Castello, Music in the Abbey Wąchock and Festival Armonie in Valcerrina. Dmitry Shishkin recorded 3 Chopin CDs, including ‘Absolute Chopin’ for the “KNS” label, which became a bestseller on iTunes, and has since released a new collection of works by Medtner, Scriabin and Rachmaninov on the Concours de Genève label.
