Champoux Vineyard the Story of This Wine 2017 Cabernet Franc Champoux Vineyard The story of this wine. This very limited bottling shows the compelling potential of Cabernet Franc from a top vineyard. Though it’s often used as a spice in our Bordeaux blends, this wine, from the legendary Champoux Vineyard, has its own unique character and complexity that convinced us to feature it alone. Winemaker Tasting Notes. “Featuring a dark garnet color, this year’s Cabernet Franc opens with dark red cherry, boysenberry, damp earth, winter mint, and hints of rose petal on the nose. The palate is weighty, full-bodied, and complex, with mulberry, tobacco leaf, earthy notes, and savory herbs, kept lively with bright acidity. One of the standouts of the vintage, this beauty can stay in the cellar another year or two, and be enjoyed over the following decade plus. - Chris Peterson, Winemaker Vintage: 2017 Winemaking: Native yeast, 20% new French oak, aged 20 months. AVA: Horse Heaven Hills Bottled unfined, unfiltered. Varietal: 100% Cabernet Franc pH 3.95 TA 5.7 g/L Vineyard: VA 0.68 g/L 100% Champoux Vineyard, 1997 planting Cases: 125 Alcohol 14.8% Release: April 2020 Jeb Dunnuck - 96 points: “From a cooler site in the Horse Heaven Hills and all varietal, the 2017 Cabernet Franc Champoux Vineyard has brilliant notes of crème de cassis, red plums, chocolate, spice, flowery incense, and cedarwood. Beautifully tex- tured, medium to full-bodied, and balanced on the palate, it shows the ele- gance and purity of the vintage yet still packs plenty of opulence and texture. It’s one of the finest expressions of this variety I’ve tasted from Washington State. Drink this beauty any time over the coming 10-15 years.” - JD WOODINVILLE, WA | 425-482-4364 | AVENNIA.COM.

The vineyards used in the "Artist Series" are among the oldest and most highly regarded in the state, typical vine age is around 25 years old. The label changes every year with work from a different Pacific Northwest artist. • 2016 Champoux Vineyard Red Wine
2016 Champoux Vineyard Red Wine We make the Champoux blend not just because we are such big fans of the vineyard, but because of the way that Merlot and Cabernet Franc shine from this site. This wine is the alter ego to Sorella. We almost always craft this wine with a nod towards a majority Cab Franc or Merlot in this case. This wine allows us to show the full range of Champoux Vineyard. The 2016 Vintage in Washington State started out quick during the spring, but in early June the weather returned to normal and thus lead to a start date of September 12th for picking. Harvest continued until October 25th with Cabernet Sauvignon from Two Blondes vineyard coming in. Right away we saw the high potential of the fruit and how this vintage would end up being another great vintage for us. Reviews: (97 Points)...One of the finest examples of this cuvée I’ve tasted is the 2016 Champoux Vineyard, which comes from one of the top terroirs in the state and is in the slightly cooler Horse Heaven Hills AVA. Young, full-bodied, and primordial, it has incredible potential but is going to need 4-5 years of bottle age. Thrilling notes of blueberries, cassis, lead pencil shavings, and bouquet garni all define the bouquet and it has remarkable purity and elegance. It picks up more floral and high-toned notes with time in the glass and is a brilliant bottle of wine that will keep for 2-3 decades. Jeb Dunnuck - Jebdunnuck.com (94+ Points)…Opens with a rich and ripe expression of dark, dusty fruit interlaced with supporting oak tones on the nose.

  • 2009 Champoux Vineyard 78% Cabernet Sauvignon & 22% Cabernet Franc Horse Heaven Hills
2009 Champoux Vineyard 78% Cabernet Sauvignon & 22% Cabernet Franc Horse Heaven Hills Champoux Vineyard was originally planted on the slope of Phinny Hill in 1971. In the four decades since, Champoux has earned a reputation as one of the greatest cabernet vineyards on the West Coast. Caleb has made cabernet sauvignon since 1991 from its blocks, and Buty has been producing this single-vineyard blend of Cabernet Sauvignon & Cabernet Franc since 2000. Champoux benefits from a long growing season flowering in mid-June and lasting until October's end. The site’s unique soils, cooling winds off the Columbia River and old clonal selections impart a distinctive aromatic signature. Building on our experience with Champoux, Caleb underscores the vineyard’s head-turning aromatics with a silky style that incorporates cabernet franc to balance the wine’s texture and power. We harvested our cabernet franc first on September 21 at 23.9˚ Brix. The cabernet sauvignon followed on October 3 at 25.7˚ Brix, with a pH of 3.50. All our hand-harvested fruit was cluster sorted then whole-grape sorted on shaker tables and gravity transferred to tank. The cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon spent 22 and 18 days respectively fermenting on skins. Only free run wine was used. To preserve the wine’s natural strengths no acid, water, or other adjustments were made. The wine spent 21 months in 80% new Taransaud Château barrels aging unracked on the lees, and was bottled unfiltered. Nine months of bottle aging affords its full perfume upon release. The final alcohol for this wine is a modest and natural 14.3%.
