GUIDALBERTO 2017 Appellation: Toscana Indicazione Geografica Tipica First vintage: 2000 Grapes: 60 % Cabernet Sauvignon 40 % Merlot Analytical data: Alcoholic content: 14,00%, PH: 3,48, Total acidity: 5,95, Residual sugar content: 0,13 g/l Type of soils: The soils have various and composite morphological characteristics with a strong presence of calcareous areas rich in galestro and pebbles and partially clay. They are located at an altitude between 100 and 300 meters above sea level, with exposure to South / South-West. Training system: Spurred cordon Plants density: 6,250 vines per hectare Climatic trend and characteristics of the vintage: A very hot year that will probably be remembered as one of the driest after 2003. Although the autumn started with rains and temperatures above the seasonal average, December and January were very cold with freezing temperatures during the day, accentuated by strong northern winds and no rain. The cold temperatures contributed to the natural elimination of pests and fungal diseases of the vine. The low rainfall of the winter season was not enough to supply the water resources of the subsoil. From March the temperatures started to rise and spring begun during the first week of April with beautiful sunny days. Except for some sporadic rains, spring was characterized by a particularly dry climate. In mid-May the temperatures were often above seasonal average. Summer months were characterized by sunny days and hot temperatures. Fortunately, the daytime sea breezes, alternating with nocturnal winds coming from inland, brought refreshment to the vines. This prevented them from suffering the lack of water or thermal stress.

  • 2019 Roero Arneis Docg
One of the legendary winemakers of the world, Bruno Giacosa crafted the most prestigious single-vineyard Barolo and Barbaresco wines during a career that spanned nearly eight decades. He joined the family business at the age of 15, representing the third generation of his Langhe winemaking family. Giacosa’s unfailing pursuit of perfection, his unrivaled palate and his intimate knowledge of vineyards in the Langhe quickly drew recognition and helped establish Piedmont as a leading wine region. In 1980, Giacosa began to acquire prime parcels in Serralunga d’Alba, La Morra and Barbaresco to produce wines that are rightly regarded as the finest expressions of Nebbiolo. His legacy rests with daughter Bruna, who continues to uphold her father’s winemaking philosophy to respect traditional techniques while using the best of modern technology. The goal is for each distinguished site to produce articulate, unique wines. 2019 ROERO ARNEIS DOCG Grape variety: Arneis Vineyards: Select vineyards in the villages of Vezza d’Alba, Monteu Roero, Santo Stefano Roero, Canale, Montà d’Alba Age of vines: 19-26 years Yield: 70 hL/ha Vinification: Stainless steel vats Length of fermentation: 25-30 days Malolactic fermentation: not developed Refinement: 4 months in stainless steel vats + 1 month in bottle Bottling: February 2020 Alcohol: 13.5% vol. SUGGESTIONS FOR POSSIBLE SHORT TRIPS To get an introduction about the area near the conference: Why You Really Should Visit Italy's Outstanding Barolo Wine Region https://www.forbes.com/sites/catherinesabino/2018/10/28/why-you-really-should-visit-italys- outstanding-barolo-wine-region/#7bd3de632f89 Note that the Langa district is best visited by car. Because of its territory, the district is not accessible by train (except for Alba, which is connected to the railway system). However, driving in the Langa district should not be a problem since it is in the countryside and not in a big city. For reference, Bra and Alba have ~30,000 people each. Some of the villages referenced below are much smaller: Pollenzo (a subdivision of Bra) and Barolo have only ~700 people. Furthermore, besides the picturesque hills and the historic castles and buildings, this area is also about food and wine. So you can pair some of the suggestions below with the restaurant suggestions also available on the conference website. There are also several wine tours that are normally organized in the area and, besides the suggestions below, you can just search online for what suits your interest. 1) Tour of the Barolo Langa district: Barolo, La Morra, and Verduno Note: Requires a car. Also, distances are short and so one can break these itineraries into smaller ones as desired. Barolo (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barolo,_Piedmont) is the town in the middle of the vineyards of nebbiolo grapes that produce the famous wine of the same name. It is a medieval village developed at the foot of the castle.

  • Guidalberto Toscana IGT 2016
TENUTA SAN GUIDO Guidalberto Toscana IGT 2016 REGION: Italy / Tuscany GRAPES: 60 % Cabernet Sauvignon 40 % Merlot Guidalberto is from the producers of the legendary Sassicaia. Grapes are harvested and transported to an independent cellar. Fermentation takes place separately for each variety in temperature-controlled steel vats before undergoing maceration. The wine is aged in French and American oak barrels and refined in bottle before release. HARVEST NOTE The 2016 vintage is considered one of the best of the last decade. The year began with a rather rainy winter and low temperatures toward the end of the season, especially in February when rains and cold temperatures were below the seasonal average. In mid-April the rise of the temperatures caused an early sprouting of the vines. The early spring was characterized by an alternation of rainy and sunny days with temperatures slightly below the seasonal average until mid-June, when summer finally arrived with temperatures above 88 ° F. Summer days were quite hot but never dry thanks to the strong ventilation during the day and the very positive climate excursion between days and nights. Thanks to these factors and to the good water supply of the soils, vines did not suffer any water stress. Grapes were well distributed on the plants with an homogeneous size of the berries. TASTING NOTE Ruby red limpid look, the aromatic range goes from red berries and spices to dark hints of tobacco and brushwood. Well-structured and with velvet tannins, this wine will evolve over the next few years. TECHNICAL DATA APPELLATION: Tuscany IGT PH: 3.4 ACIDITY: 5.90 g/L ABV: 14% AGING: The wine is aged for 15 months in French and American oak barrels and refined in bottle before release.

2016 Champoux Vineyard Red Wine We make the Champoux blend not just because we are such big fans of the vineyard, but because of the way that Merlot and Cabernet Franc shine from this site. This wine is the alter ego to Sorella. We almost always craft this wine with a nod towards a majority Cab Franc or Merlot in this case. This wine allows us to show the full range of Champoux Vineyard. The 2016 Vintage in Washington State started out quick during the spring, but in early June the weather returned to normal and thus lead to a start date of September 12th for picking. Harvest continued until October 25th with Cabernet Sauvignon from Two Blondes vineyard coming in. Right away we saw the high potential of the fruit and how this vintage would end up being another great vintage for us. Reviews: (97 Points)...One of the finest examples of this cuvée I’ve tasted is the 2016 Champoux Vineyard, which comes from one of the top terroirs in the state and is in the slightly cooler Horse Heaven Hills AVA. Young, full-bodied, and primordial, it has incredible potential but is going to need 4-5 years of bottle age. Thrilling notes of blueberries, cassis, lead pencil shavings, and bouquet garni all define the bouquet and it has remarkable purity and elegance. It picks up more floral and high-toned notes with time in the glass and is a brilliant bottle of wine that will keep for 2-3 decades. Jeb Dunnuck - Jebdunnuck.com (94+ Points)…Opens with a rich and ripe expression of dark, dusty fruit interlaced with supporting oak tones on the nose.

  • Powers Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Champoux Vineyard Horse Heaven Hills 2016
2016 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Champoux Vineyard TASTING NOTES Exquisite layered aromatics of blueberry, dark cherry, and cedar with hints of violets, vanilla and warm earth. This intriguing nose is followed by dense savory flavors of black currant, dark fruits, and cranberry with touches of cocoa, smoke and spice lingering on this complex palate. Firm, dusty, lush tannins are accented by hints of oak, acidity, and earthiness on the finish. As is typical of Champoux Vineyard, this is a very elegant yet powerful Cabernet Sauvignon that will cellar for many years. The varietals were harvested from late Setember to late October with near perfect acididty and fruit flavors. We used the pump-under fermentation process with PDM yeast to enhance the nice richness you would expect from Champoux Vineyard. The wine was then aged for 32 months in 55% new French Oak barrels, 25% in 2nd fill along with the last 20% in neutral French Oak Barrels.
