Jain Kim and Sachi Amma Are the Winners of the Ifsc Lead bk-logo.jpg IFSC CLIMBING WORLD CUP KRANJ 2013 : JAIN KIM AND SACHI AMMA ARE THE WINNERS OF THE IFSC LEAD WORLD CUP 2013! In the final competition of the year Jain Kim (KOR) and Sachi Amma (JPN) clinched their titles as the world‘ best Lead climbers in 2013. The stage victories went to Momoka Oda (JPN) and Jakob Schubert (AUT), also fledgling winner of the Combined Overall World Cup 2013 (Lead, Speed, Boulder). A long, thrilling, and successful sport climbing year 2013 is now history. With the last competition in Kranj (SLO) from November 16th-17th the last decisions in the IFSC World Cup were made – and in a quite gripping way! In the closest overall result battle since 1990, Korea’s Jain Kim started 20 points ahead of local heroine Mina Markovic in the Kranj competition. And in this last comp of the year, the two female season dominators didn’t give anything away for free: After both topping out in the qualifications, Jain Kim took the lead in the semi finals, just ahead of eternal rival Markovic. But in the final round, Japan’s strong duo Momoka Oda and Akyio Noguchi mounted an offensive and (after one more change in the ranking) climbed to gold and silver in Kranj. Jain Kim’s fourth place in the end Monday, ensured her first IFSC Lead Overall World Cup title to crown an incredible competition season! Mina 18th Markovic finished third in the end, and celebrated her third success in the IFSC Combined World Cup November including Lead, Speed and Bouldering results! 2013 One competition, two winners In the men‘s Lead calculation, the battle was on between Japan’s Sachi Amma and Jakob Schubert from Austria fighting for first place. But after the semis, the results were fixed; Sachi Amma, three- time season winner, gained his second title in IFSC Overall Lead World Cup in a row! In the resulting finals, Amma’s chief competitor Jakob Schubert gave an impressive performance and climbed to a height of 41+ to win the stage victory in Kranj as well as gold in the IFSC Combined World Cup 2013. Silver in Slovenia went to returner Adam Ondra who celebrated his second podium out of only two World Cup competitions this year, just ahead of “golden boy” Sachi Amma. But at the end of a great season, the world’s leading climbing athletes weren’t the only ones celebrating; with 1.750 points in total Japan won the Lead National Team Ranking 2013, followed by Team Austria with 1.567 points and France achieving 1.460 points. The world climbing elite will now take a break for the winter – and we’re already looking forward to a new, thrilling season starting in 2014! 1 bk-logo.jpg Results of IFSC World Cup KRanj 2013 - Lead Men: Rank NAME Nation 1 Schubert Jakob AUT 2 Ondra Adam CZE 3 Amma Sachi JPN 4 Supper Gautier FRA 5 Min Hyunbin KOR 6 Romain Manuel FRA 7 Desgranges Romain FRA 8 Julian Puigblanque Ramón ESP For Full Results: https://www.ifsc-climbing.org/index.php/world-competition/latest-results#!comp=1458&cat=1 Women: Rank NAME Nation Monday, 18th 1 Oda Momoka JPN November 2 Noguchi Akiyo JPN 2013 3 Markovic Mina SLO 4 Kim Jain KOR 5 Röck Magdalena AUT 6 Fakhritdinova Dinara RUS 7 Verhoeven Anak BEL 8 Vidmar Maja SLO For Full Results: https://www.ifsc-climbing.org/index.php/world-competition/latest-results#!comp=1458&cat=2 2 bk-logo.jpg Final Lead Rankings IFSC World Cup 2013 – Lead – (After eight events: 17/11/2013) Men: Rank NAME Nation Points 1 Amma Sachi JPN 572 2 Schubert Jakob AUT 535 3 Julian Puigblanque Ramón ESP 420 4 Min Hyunbin KOR 360 5 McColl Sean CAN 356 6 Desgranges Romain FRA 346 7 Supper Gautier FRA 333 8 Romain Manuel FRA 319 9 Skofic Domen SLO 245 10 Ghisolfi Stefano ITA 232 For Full Rankings: https://www.ifsc-climbing.org/index.php/world-competition/calendar#!type=ranking&cat=ICC_M&cup=13_WC Monday, Women: 18th November Rank NAME Nation Final 2013 1 Kim Jain KOR 625 2 Markovic Mina SLO 605 3 Oda Momoka JPN 491 4 Röck Magdalena AUT 374 5 Fakhritdinova Dinara RUS 354 6 Janicot Hélène FRA 340 7 Noguchi Akiyo JPN 301 8 Posch Katharina AUT 259 9 Verhoeven Anak BEL 212 10 van Bergen Nikki NED 206 For Full Rankings: https://www.ifsc-climbing.org/index.php/world-competition/calendar#!type=ranking&cat=ICC_F&cup=13_WC 3 bk-logo.jpg FINAL Overall Rankings IFSC World Cup 2013 – Combined – (After: 17/11/2013) Men: Rank NAME Nation Points 1 Schubert Jakob AUT 755 2 McColl Sean CAN 651 3 Amma Sachi JPN 507 4 Sharafutdinov Dmitrii RUS 426 5 Tauporn Thomas GER 296 6 Lachat Cédric SUI 270 7 Skofic Domen SLO 210 8 Becan Klemen SLO 177 9 Lechner Mario AUT 166 9 Primozic Urban SLO 166 For Full Rankings: https://www.ifsc-climbing.org/index.php/world-competition/calendar#!type=ranking&cat=45&cup=13_WC Monday, Women: 18th November Rank NAME Nation Final 2013 1 Markovic Mina SLO 648 2 Noguchi Akiyo JPN 634 3 Oda Momoka JPN 628 4 Kim Jain KOR 529 5 Saurwein Katharina AUT 403 6 Fakhritdinova Dinara RUS 318 7 Janicot Hélène FRA 287 8 Posch Katharina AUT 217 9 Onoe Aya JPN 202 10 Kobayashi Yuka JPN 182 For Full Rankings: https://www.ifsc-climbing.org/index.php/world-competition/calendar#!type=ranking&cat=42&cup=13_WC 4 bk-logo.jpg National Team Rankings - LEad Rank NATION Points 1 JPN Japan 1750 2 AUT Austria 1567 3 FRA France 1460 4 SLO Slovenia 1314 5 KOR Korea 1103 6 RUS Russia 845 7 ITA Italy 496 8 BEL Belgium 475 9 ESP Spain 467 10 CAN Canada 383 11 SUI Suisse 252 12 GER Germany 239 13 NED Netherlands 211 14 NOR Norway 191 Monday, 15 CZE Czech Republic 180 18th November 16 CHN China 127 2013 17 IRI Iran 33 18 CHI Chile 28 19 VEN Venezuela 24 20 HUN Hungary 22 21 UKR Ukraine 17 22 ISR Israel 13 23 IND India 10 24 SWE Sweden 9 25 GBR Great Britain 6 5 bk-logo.jpg For more information To request archive photos and footage, please contact the IFSC Media Relations Team: Pierre-Emmanuel DANGER Videos Press Officer, systemd YouTube: www.youtube.com/ifscchannel Mobile: 00336 72 230 735 Photos Email: [email protected] For a selection of photos available shortly after each event, please visit the Photo Gallery on www.ifsc- Anne FUYNEL climbing.org Director of Marketing & Communications, IFSC Social media Mobile: 00336 40 469 961 Stay connected to latest IFSC and Sport Climbing updates, Email: [email protected] please follow us on Twitter, Facebook and Linked’In Monday, 18th November 2013 6 .

Cheriton School of Computer Science University of Waterloo Waterloo, Ontario, N2L 3G1, Canada [email protected] August 31, 2021 Abstract Sport climbing was a new Olympic event introduced at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. It was composed of three disciplines, and the final rankings were determined by computing the product of each climber's rankings in the three disciplines, with the lowest score winning. In this paper, we compare this product-based scoring method with the more usual sum-based method. As well, we propose and analyze a new method based on taking the sum of the square roots of each climber's rankings. 1 Introduction: Sport Climbing and the 2020 Olympics While outdoor rock climbing has a diverse and lengthy global history, competitive sport climbing1 is relatively new, with the earliest records of competitions being held on artificial walls in the 1980s [9].
