DNA FORENSICS Welcome to the 2019 International Homicide Investigators Association’s 26th Annual Training Symposium. The IHIA board is excited to be at the Hyatt in Austin Texas providing you with the best training presentations available. We feel very fortunate to serve our worldwide membership and share a great week from over 45 states and 9 different countries.
I also want to thank our co-host agencies, without whom the IHIA wouldn’t be successful. Our co- hosts this year are the Austin Police Department, The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Critical Incident response Group (CIRG), Criminal Investigative Division (CID), and FBI San Antonio’s Austin Resident Agency; and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. There is no higher honor than investigating the death of another human being. These investigations by their very nature require a mix of innovation, time honored methods of investigation, and most importantly teamwork. On behalf of the men and women of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, San Antonio Field Office, I welcome you to Austin, Texas and the 26th Annual International Homicide Investigators Association Training Symposium.
The San Antonio Field Office consists of a headquarters facility in San Antonio, and six resident agencies, located in several cities across South and Central Texas to include Austin. Our area of responsibility covers 60 counties, 66,000 square miles and includes 100 miles of coastline, and 625 miles of the U.S.‐ Mexico border. The capital city of the Lonestar State, also known as the “Live Music Capital of the World,” is located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, and offers an abundance of rivers, lakes, spring‐fed pools and hiking trails. More than 20 million tourists come to Austin each year and enjoy the music, art, outdoor recreation, good food and great hospitality.
