COVID-19 Response Monthly Report: Redirection Funding IMPACT (Improving Market Partnerships and Access to Commodities Together): June 2021 Overview of COVID-19 Activities In May 2020, USAID approved $ 610,300 from the Year 2 IMPACT workplan to be redirected to support the MOPH in fighting against COVID-19 for six months (May to October 2020). At the end of October 2020, there was a remaining balance of $280,069. On January 27th, IMPACT received approval from USAID to use $155,695 from this balance to continue to support the MOPH on its COVID-19 interventions. In June 2021, USAID approved the use of the remaining amount of $124,374 that was left from the $610,300 to continue support to the MOPH. The purpose of this funding is to (i) help the GOM to purchase and transport health and expendable commodities (personal protection equipment and infection prevention products) from the central level in Antananarivo to districts and communes (ii) sensitize Malagasy people in the eight regions most affected by COVID-19, including Boeny, Analanjirofo, Haute Matsiatra, Vatovavy Fito Vinany, Amoron'i Mania, Vakinankaratra, Menabe, and Atsimo Andrefana. As new cases have been increasing, Diana, Atsinanana, SAVA, and Sofia regions have been added. Main Achievements with detailed results Transportation/Support the DRSP and SDSP by providing supplies and expendable equipment • IMPACT financially supported the transportation of MOPH expendable equipment and supplies from DRSP Diana to Ambanja (2 fridges), and to SDSP Nosy-Be (5 marquees, 6 freezer boxes, etc.) and from DRSP Melaky to SDSP Ambatomainty, SDSP Morafenobe, SDSP Antsahalova (30 bottles of hydroalcoholic gels 500ml, 630 washable masks, 60 rolls of hand towels, etc.). Details are provided in Annexes/Table 1. • IMPACT financially supported the transportation of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) samples from the DRSP of Vakinankaratra (50) and Amoron’i Mania (15) to DVSSER (Direction de la Veille Sanitaire, de la Surveillance Epidémiologique et Riposte) in Antananarivo, and GeneXpert specimens from Manakara (6) and Mananjary (4) to Pivot Ifanadiana. • IMPACT financially supported the transportation of COVID-19 vaccines (Covishield - AstraZeneca) in 5 regions (Haute Matsiatra, Boeny, Atsimo Andrefana, Menabe, and Atsinanana) from DRSP to SDSP and from SDSP to CSB. Details are provided in Annexes/Table2. • IMPACT supported the duplication of 19,388 registration forms used to record patient information for the COVID-19 vaccinations (Name, Age, ID Number, Address, patient clinical information, etc.) in Boeny. Protect IMPACT Team and CHVs, PA and PARCs against COVID-19 by distributing expendables and equipment • IMPACT procured and ensured the transportation of expendable equipment (423 washable masks, 218 bottles of hydroalcoholic gel 500 ml, 37 sprayers, 74 mops, 74 over blouses, 37 laser thermometers, 37 water containers 20L with tap, 37 plastic washing basins, 446 pieces of soap, 290 bottles of Javel water 500ml) to 2 PARC and 80 PA in four USAID-supported regions (Boeny, Atsimo Andrefana, Atsinanana, and Vatovavy Fito Vinany) and one DCC region (Atsimo Atsinanana). Details per region are presented in Annexes/Table 2. Support communication awareness • IMPACT provided technical support during two virtual meetings organized by the CCRCE led by MOPH through their department DIRCOM and DPS at the central level on June 3rd and 15th. These meetings focused on (i) the validation of the communication tools (posters, TV, and radio spots) for the vaccination campaign; (ii) update of posters to highlight messages for precaution against the COVID-19 variants. • IMPACT conducted 75 sensitizations and social mobilizations using mobile sound systems in 9 districts (Fenoarivo Atsinanana, Soanierana Ivongo, Mahajanga I, Mahajanga II, Ambanja, Ambilobe, Vohipeno, Manakara, and Maintirano). The messages focused on barrier gestures (wearing a mask, social distancing, and frequent hand washing) to COVID-19 prevention and on the interest of being vaccinated. More than 19,600 people were reached. • According to a request from DPEV of MOPH, and in coordination with ACCESS, IMPACT aired 30 TV spots and 96 radio spots respectively in 2 TV stations and 3 radio stations in Analamanga region to encourage people to get vaccinated from June 1st to 15th, 2021. 1 Planned activities for next month (July): • Depending on DRSP requests, IMPACT will: o Continue to transport COVID-19 expendable equipment and supplies from regions to districts. o Support financially the transportation of PCR blood samples from districts to DVSSER or GeneXpert in regions (Diego, Fenerive-Est, Ifanadiana, etc.). • Conduct regular disinfection of PSI/IMPACT offices, warehouses, and vehicles • Through the Field Communication Team, continue to organize sensitizations and social mobilizations on COVID-19 prevention using mobile sound systems.
