In just 100 hours of battle, the Division attacked 370 kilometers into the enemy's flank and rear to sever lines of communication, destroy an aggressor army, and to help free the nearly two million people of Kuwait. We hope that access to the 24th Infantry Division (Mechanized) DESERT STORM OPLAN will assist students of military history and serve as a foundation for a more complete understanding of armored combined arms maneuver warfare. To this end, the narratives in the paratexts have been analyzed using four framing techniques elaborated by Les Presses de l’Université de Montréal Somers and Gibson (1994) and Baker (2006), which are framing by temporality/spatiality, selective appropriation, labeling and participant ISSN positioning. The analysis of paratextual material shows that, apart from their introductory and explanatory functions, paratexts can be viewed as a kind of 0026-0452 (print) metadiscourse on the actual translations. More recently, Iraq was occupied by Britain during the course of World War I. In 1920, Britain carved it out of the ruins of the Ottoman Empire, and had it declared a League of Nations mandate under British administration. The result was a Sunni -dominated state with a Shi’ite majority and a Kurdish minority that wanted independence. The British mandate failed to cope with Iraqi nationalism, and led to active rebellion. This rebellion failed in military sense, in the face of British military act ion that included the use of poison gas, but it eventually forced Britain to give Iraqi independence. A Hashemite monarchy was established that survived a series of coup attempts, and a British invasion during World War II.
