PAGE 03 FIFE PHARMACY NEWS ISSUE 40 Wasted Medicines in Fife NHS Fife is launching a campaign to reduce the amount of wasted medicines in May 2012. We are highlighting the costs involved when medicines are wasted due to patients over-ordering on repeat prescriptions, or continuing to order medicines which they no longer take. Wasted medicines cost NHS Fife over £2million per year. The campaign is aimed at GPs, Pharmacy and Care Home staff as well as members of the general public reminding everyone not to order medicines “just in case” – if you run out of medicines, you simply need to visit your GP or local pharmacy. Pharmacies receive deliveries of medicines every day, so there should be no major delays to receive more medicines if you need them. • Stockpiling medicines at home is also a safety risk. • It is important to return any unused medicines to your local pharmacy. • All medicines which are returned to pharmacies must be disposed of, even if they are unopened or unused – they cannot be reused, recycled or sent abroad for legal reasons. Fiona Eastop, Pharmacist at NHS Fife said “This campaign is urging everyone to think before they order repeat prescriptions and check their cupboards, before ordering any more, even if ordering for a relative, or someone they care for. Also, if there are medicines which people do not like to take, or are unable to swallow, simply ask to speak to their pharmacist or GP at any time to discuss your medicines.” Messages to the public within the campaign include: Further information on how this campaign will be • If you go into hospital, take all of your promoted in pharmacies across Fife is coming soon….. medicines with you. Walk at Work Workplace Pedometer Challenge 2012 This year, two teams from Pharmacy Services are taking part in the walking challenge, Which encourages everyone to walk a little further and help increase their steps, towards a healthier lifestyle.

  • Training Programme September 2019 - March 2020
Health Promotion Service Training Programme September 2019 - March 2020 Helping us all to build a healthier, fairer Fife Foreword Welcome to the 2019/20 edition of the Health Promotion Training Programme. Health Promotion Fife produce this programme as part of Fife’s Health & Social Care Partnership in order to provide people working in Fife with the skills and knowledge to improve health and wellbeing, focus on preventing ill-health and to contribute to reducing inequalities in health. Focusing on prevention and tackling inequalities is a key strategic priority for Fife’s Community Planning Partners and requires partnership working across organisations. The training and development opportunities offered through the programme directly support many of the ambitions and priority themes set out in Fife’s Local Outcome Improvement Plan 2017-2027 Plan4Fife. We are pleased to be able to support this agenda on behalf of the Communities and Wellbeing Partnership. Crucial to tackling health inequalities is the need to address the life circumstances that can impact on people’s health such as poverty, poor quality work and housing. The Training Programme includes courses which will help local workers to address these challenging issues. The Health Promotion Service are delighted to continue to work in partnership to deliver on the recommendations in the Fairer Fife Commission publication ‘Fairness Matters’ on poverty awareness workforce development. There is continued demand for welfare reform and anti poverty training and we offer a suite of training to support this challenging agenda. We offer an extensive suite of Mental Health Training courses which directly support delivering the priorities in Fife’s Mental Health Strategy 2019-2023 “Lets Really Raise the Bar”.

TENTH ANNIVERSARY EDITION • 2006 - 2016 Fife Health & Wellbeing Alliance Foreword Welcome to the 2015/16 edition of the Health Improvement Training Programme. Managed by NHS Fife Health Promotion Service on behalf of Fife’s Health and Wellbeing Alliance, the programme aims to provide individuals with the skills and knowledge to take forward Fife’s health improvement agenda. With the challenges we face working to reduce health inequalities, the impact of welfare reform and the new health and social care agenda, the programme offers new courses to support, inspire and upskill Fife’s workforce. This year we are celebrating the 10th edition of the programme. This is a significant milestone and highlights the commitment from Fife Health and Wellbeing Alliance to develop a skilled and confident workforce to help us build a healthier fairer Fife. This has been achieved through continued partnership working. Fife has a rich pool of assets in terms of the skills, knowledge, experience of both facilitators and participants, and the training is designed to make full use of these assets. The courses offered have been informed by local and national health improvement priorities and in particular support the outcomes set out in Fife’s refreshed health and wellbeing strategy – fairer Ruth Bennett health for Fife 2015-20 which has an overarching aim Health Promotion Manager of reducing health inequalities. The strategy will be launched later this year. For more information visit www.healthyfife.net.
