LayingdownofthefirstSWATHcustomsvessel atTKMSBlohm+VossNordseewerkein

Emden/Hamburg,August8,2008 OnAugust8,2008,thekeelofthefirstofaseriesoftwocustomsvesselsfortheGerman CustomsAuthoritieshasbeenlaidatTKMSBlohm+VossNordseewerkeinEmden,a companyofThyssenKruppMarineSystems.Thevesselshavebeenorderedbythe ProcurementOfficeoftheGermanCustomsAuthoritiesandaretobedeliveredinMay andNovember2009. ThedesignofthevesselsisbasedontheSWATHprinciple.SWATHstandsforSmall WaterplaneAreaTwinHull,thusatwinhullshipwithaverylowwaterplaneinthe waterline.Duetotheverysmallwaterplane,seastatesarelargelyeliminated.Theresult isthatSWATHcraftshowanexcellentseagoingbehaviour–evenathighseas.The FederalCustomsAdministrationdeliberatelyselectedacraftwithsuchcharacteristicsto performitsofficialduties,suchascoastguardfunctions,incooperationwithother authoritiesatthebest. ForTKMSBlohm+VossNordseewerke,thisorderrepresentsacontinuationofthe SWATHprogramme,inwhichtheexperiencegatheredwiththedesignandconstruction oftheSWATHresearchvessel"Planet"leavesitsmarks.In2004,the"Planet"was elected“ShipoftheYear”.Thevesselsareconstructedinsideaproductionhall independentoftheweather.Uponconstruction,thevesselswillbepulledoutofthehall intothewaterforfinaloutfittingatthequay. Thevesselshaveadisplacementof1,000tonsandwillbeequippedwithadieselelectric propulsionsystem.TheywillbebuiltincompliancewiththeregulationsofGermanischer Lloyd.Themaindimensionsareasfollows: Overalllength: approx.49m
