It was a very happy occasion for the Club members as they had waited to meet with the very busy Professor who wanted to thank them properly and in person. This gave them the opportunity to explain all of the fun ways the money was raised at the Inaugural 4 Person Mixed Ambrose Event which included a number of novelty fun activities to assist in the special fundraising event. George had heard about some of the different parts of the day from the volunteers who had been out to Skipton on the day, and was keen to hear more about the range of ages of the players, and the fact that there was a professional available to assist with a “Buy-A-Drive”, and about the “Fastest Drive” and other stories. A tour of the laboratory was an incredible bonus and we thank George and his wonderful staff for the opportunity to understand more about their special work. FECRI Fundraising continues details below. K

Thank You Everybody It was a successful night that took place for the Trivia with a Twist Fundraiser. We anticipated some cancellations due to the very cold wintery weather, however this did not happen and the support was fantastic- the turn out succeeded our expectations and more besides! The spirit of inclusion and connection was evident through the wide span of ages and community spirit on the night. Such a mixture of dance, singing and mime. I can’t recall everyone with such a large number of talented people on display - just a couple I will mention being Margaret from the post office and the great piano piece using her feet and Jim Hinton what a great display of dance moves! The wining table of the actual trivia was the Elliott Brothers, James Kirkpatrick, Will Fay, Josh Draffin and friends. Thank you to the generosity of our Skipton sponsors, Lismore, Mortlake and Ballarat Businesses for the donation of prizes and the local people who couldn’t attend but contributed. Too many to mention so I won’t attempt to list. BSW Advisors donated the $200 for the key competition which was won by Jo- Pat Hutchinson’s daughter. We were a little organising team but we pulled it together to help raise some money for Sue’s home- special thanks to Kerri who has never lived in Skipton who just has a kind heart and altruistic energy! Thank you to all who came together in such a positive spirit- you all contributed to the success of the night. Many thanks to Roving Photographer Val Day. Lucky Key Winner Jo with Tracey. A little like Cinderella and Prince Charming—We all purchased a key on arrival. Sadly there can be only one lucky winner, but Tracey happily for Ros Grylls it was her!! —Captain Op Shop Table. LETTER TO THE EDITOR Interestingly I receive many communications that I regularly include in SCN to share with readers each week. Usually these are simply placed under the headings that fits best e.g. The articles from Groups and Organisations; statements from State and Federal Politicians; our Local Government Corangamite Shire, Golden Plains Shire and Pyrenees Shire; and the like. Some are quite specific so are forwarded on to those best able to assist those individuals and as with this email below I decided to just simply cut it and paste it and let you decide yourselves which references to keep for future. Like most people I like to scan through the Facebook posts and it was great to see that the owners were able to find their lost dog through the network of friends. With our weather being so very wet lately and the creek levels rising, it was great to see that the mitigation works have been so successful and that the early warning sites along the way have been so readily accessible to people seeking information. Many thanks to Bob for his detailed information below. Hope it helps you. ——————————————————————————————————————————————— G'day Kathy,- ARE YOU WONDERING ABOUT THE RISING CREEK LEVELS??

there is lots of material readily available on line, but some of it is elusive. We all know that you can see what's happening in the immediate future with the BOM radar... http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDR022.loop.shtml#skip and some commercial sites like... https://ozforecast.com.au/cgi-bin/weather.cgi?station=Skipton.VIC which gives a lot of extra forecast material in an easy to understand graphical format. The BOM also gives us day to day graphical results in our catchment zone... http://www.bom.gov.au/vic/flood/glenelg_hopkins.shtml and if one uses the menu to select river heights... http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/wrap_fwo.pl?IDV60147.html you can scroll to the Hopkins Basin and locate the local recorder... http://www.bom.gov.au/fwo/IDV67205/IDV67205.589007.plt.shtml along with its mates at Mena Park and Guthrie's Bridge, again, all in graphical format. So it's all pretty easy to find out what's likely to be happening without heading out into the cold and the wet - unless it's getting critical of course ! Historical weather data is also hiding on the BOM site, and in downloadable CSV format so you can load it all into a spreadsheet. For rainfall... http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/data/ it's probably better to use the map selection where you can zoom into the area of interest, say Skipton, and discover that you can download rainfall data back to 1897. Creek & river water levels and flow data can be found at... http://www.bom.gov.au/waterdata/ again with the use of a zoomable map and graphical displays, with CSV downloads for your spreadsheet analysis also available - but only for comparatively recent times of course. Going back to the climate data page... http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/data/ and entering Skipton into the search panel, you can select local recording station locations, to the right there is a link for more information, under the map image produced is another link for "basic site summary". This downloads a PDF file of historical and current data for the recording station, which even tells us the period of use for the large Pluviograph device stored in the history rooms.
